Bulging Disc Symptoms and Herniation Treatment

Welcome to the Bulging Disc Symptoms and Disc Herniation Treatment episode, where we discuss chronic neck and back pain and its resolution. Our host is Dr. Tony Mork, an endoscopic spine specialist and certified North big surgeon with over 13 years of experience in the field. Today's episode is all about bulging discs and their different protrusions and bulges, so that when you read your MRI report, you have a better understanding of what's going on.

Dr. Mork explains that a bulging disc is a common spinal condition that occurs when the soft cushion between the vertebrae bulges outwards, putting pressure on the surrounding nerves. This can cause a range of symptoms, including:

    • Pain in the neck, back, arms, or legs
    • Numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
    • Weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
    • Difficulty standing or sitting for long periods of time
    • Difficulty lifting objects or performing everyday activities

He goes on to explain that there are different types of bulging disc protrusions, including contained and non-contained herniations and sequestered fragments. While the symptoms can vary depending on the severity and location of the bulging disc, it's important to seek medical attention if you're experiencing any of these symptoms.

Dr. Mork also discusses the different treatment options for bulging discs, including physical therapy, pain management, and in some cases, surgery. He emphasizes the importance of seeking treatment early on to prevent further damage to the spine and to improve quality of life.

Thanks for listening to this episode on bulging disc symptoms. If you have any questions or concerns about your own spinal health, please contact Dr. Mork at drtonymork.com. Stay tuned for more episodes on spinal health and chronic pain management.

    Cupping for Back Pain

By now you probably heard about cupping. It is the in-treatment these days for tennis elbow, shoulder pain, migraines, back pain etc. Athletes and movie stars walk around showing the red marks as proud as if they were showing off a new tattoo. The red marks are really petechial hemorrhaging, you may also know this as a hickey. The tiny blood vessels swell up and cause reddening of the skin. The redness is harmless but can look bad if you plan on attending a wedding and want to wear a backless gown and had your shoulder just treated. Other than a few stares at the redness, the process is very helpful in getting your over-worked low back pain muscles to function better.
Let's explain how it works then we can get into the why it works. Your muscles rely on glycogen as a fuel source. Glycogen is the primary carbohydrate stored in the liver and muscle cells of animals, is broken down into glucose to provide immediate energy and to maintain blood glucose levels during fasting. When glycogen is broken down by glucagon into readily available glucose there is an end product ATP adenosine tri-phosphate but there are by-products that need to be removed. The garbage has to be taken out just like in your home. The cell membrane's permeability can be negatively impacted by using too much energy(glucose), creating a back up of waste needing to be removed.
So what happens to waste when it backs up? In the cellular world, your muscles become dysfunctional. The waste takes up too much space. Now a muscle that is already working overtime has to work harder. Cupping for lower back pain uses reverse pressure to help draw waste products out of the cells of the muscle tissue. It may be a little uncomfortable at first then the discomfort subsides. Most people report a significant decrease in back pain as well as greater mobility immediately after treatment.

Spinal decompression for Serious Back Pain FAQ's Stamford Darien Norwalk & New Canaan

Spinal Decompression For Stubborn Chronic Back Pain

When do you finally do something to help your bad back? Then when you do decide to do something where do you turn? The internet? Maybe your general practitioner? Perhaps a family member or friend can guide you to the right place. The fact that you have decided to act is a good thing and a smart thing. You must understand that your back pain pain may go away with Advil or Aleve, but ask why does it keep returning? How long has it been since you actually felt good? Are you getting restful sleep? Have people told you how cranky you have been?
Naturally, we all turn to the web for information. Then you have to deal with too much information which can be confusing. I hope this article makes your decision process easier. If you have a bulging or herniated disc causing your back pain you could benefit from spinal decompression. If you have chronic low back pain from spinal stenosis there is a good chance that spinal decompression would help. Sciatica caused by a disc can be helped as well. Chronic conditions are those lasting more than six months that do not appear to be going away or resolving on their own. These would be ideal conditions for successful treatment with spinal decompression.
Let's go into the buts. Spinal decompression can be successful but you need to have proper biomechanics in your spine to have a lasting effect. All too often people will tell me how they are strengthening their core to help their back pain. That's great but if the structure is not mechanically sound the strengthening won't make a significant impact. Think of it this way, you have a student who speaks Spanish and you are trying to teach him math in English. Sure it's great to teach him math but if he does not fully understand what you are saying how much good are you doing?
The skeletal system holds us up, when there are excessive stresses placed on the skeletal system there can be mechanical issues that complicate your body's ability to perform. Doesn't it make sense to fix the underlying structure then work on your core stren

    Back Pain

    Back Pain
Low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. Too often, people feel like they've run out of options and turn to surgery for herniated discs, stenosis, degenerative disc disease, etc. With so many different modalities of treatment claiming to be the cure, it can be disheartening when not a single one ends up working. In this episode Ashley will explain first hand what it is like being told no one can help you, and how she found her cure.
