On this episode of the Finding Fire Podcast, we had the privilege of visiting with Minnesota State Senate District 3 Candidate Grant Hauschild. Politics may seem like something daunting for most, but ever since the age of fourteen Grant has been pursuing  politics in hopes to make a change for the better. The most inspiring thing that stood out to us is how happy Grant is pursuing his passion and loving the process. 

We talked about Grant's path into politics and how he has gravitated to being an involved leader within the community. Grant brings a wide range of experience at the federal, state, and local level. From his time working in rural economic development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), to his time serving as a labor policy aide to U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp.  

As Grant is currently running for state senate, he also serves as the Executive Director of the Essentia Health Foundation and Hermantown City Councilor.

Eyore, that pessimistic donkey in the Winnie the Pooh cartoons once said, "thanks, but I'd rather stay an Eyore." In this week's podcast Bill and Ed discuss the concept of being a possibilist leader.  Author Rob Hoskins uses this term to define leaders that have several different characteristics in common.  Hoskins says, "This type of individual holds loosely the reality that both bad and better exist. Most days each of us who are Faith Empowered leaders face one big challenge that seems to get the best of us. If we want to move beyond that challenge in a positive way we need to apply adaptive leadership and:

• Figure out what kind of challenge it is, adaptive or technical
• Name the specific challenge and engage it by 
  • Observing
  • Interpreting
  • Intervening by running experiments
