Ante el fuerte impacto que han generado las constantes alzas en el precio del pan en nuestra región, cuyo valor del kilo ya supera los mil pesos, es que el Senador independiente Carlos Cantero solicitó al Gobierno, rebajar el impuesto que afecta a este producto de primera necesidad. El congresista expresó su preocupación argumentando que “el precio del pan está llegando a niveles que están fuera de lo deseable, lo que nos obliga a buscar mecanismos que permitan dar una respuesta adecuada a las demandas de la gente, que quiere comprar pan más barato y de buena calidad”. En tal sentido, Cantero aseveró que existen dos vías de solución a esta delicada problemática, que son la rebaja al tributo adicional que se aplica al sector panadero o el reestablecimiento de la barrera fitosanitaria en el puerto de Caldera, en la Región de Atacama, medida que permitiría la libre circulación de productos, como harina o trigo, provenientes principalmente desde Argentina y Bolivia. Asimismo, el legislador detalló que ya ha sostenido conversaciones en esta materia con dirigentes de la Cámara de Comercio de Antofagasta, entre ellos, con su Presidente, Giancarlo Coronata, y el empresario panadero Constantino Zafirópulos, quienes se mostraron esperanzados en que Cantero realice las gestiones necesarias ante la Presidenta Michelle Bachelet para disminuir el gravamen específico a la harina y el trigo. Cabe destacar que la harina es gravada con dos impuestos, el 19 por ciento del IVA y un 12 por ciento adicional. Entre las iniciativas para reducir actualmente el precio del pan, se ha propuesto eliminar el 12 por ciento de este tributo o un pago diferenciado, sin embargo, entre los industriales panificadores, no creen que esta medida se traduzca en una disminución en el valor del producto, sino que agregan que su mayor costo se encuentra determinado por la insuficiencia de trigo existente en el país.
