    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

It’s February, so that means it’s time for the AIPT Movies podcast’s “Shredruary” series! Where we cover movies that revolve around music or musicians! In this week’s episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss 2001’s satirical musical comedy, Josie and the Pussycats!

Endless product placement! A classic and catchy soundtrack that features Letters to Cleo’s Kay Hanley and (we think) Matthew Sweet! A consistently funny movie that effortlessly bounces between witty, subversive moments and silly, slapstick comedy! Fun, creative direction from Can’t Hardly Wait’s Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont! A perfect cast that includes Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Parker Posey, Alan Cumming, Missi Pyle, possibly the greatest boy band of all time, Dujour, and the vocal talents of Mr. Moviefone! A misunderstood, ahead of its time gem - with a sweet message about being true to yourself and not getting caught in the cogs of consumerism - that has found the cult following it deserves despite its disappointing box office!

In addition, Tim shares his spoiler-free thoughts on 1988’s Alien Nation and the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Cool as Ice, while Alex talks about Shin Ultraman, Knight and Day, The Beekeeper, and Sniper G.R.I.T.!

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIPT Movies crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter @AIPTmoviesPod.

1998: There's Something About Mary / Ben Stiller Draft

We're shutting down another year at PCY. Capping off our 2023 and our month of 1998 is the classic comedy There's Something About Mary. Directed by the Farrelly Brothers and starring Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, Matt Damon, Chris Elliot, and more this film was a juggernaut that took the country by storm. We break down every hilarious moment for you.

For our draft we considered Cameron Diaz, but did you know realize she basically retired from acting almost 10 years ago? We discuss that and then draft the best of Ben Stiller instead. His IMDB page is overwhelming. Listen to hear what we liked best.

The Holiday (2006): KATE WINSLET & CAMERON DIAZ

The Holiday (2006): KATE WINSLET & CAMERON DIAZ

In this episode, Angie and Steffi are continuing on their holiday diva movie journey with the modern day Christmas romcom classic “The Holiday” (2006) featuring our divas of the week: Kate Winslet & Cameron Diaz.

For this episode, we combined what would normally be two parts of an episode into one episode because that’s what we used to do when covering movies. However, this will probably change in future episodes. But the first part of this episode is reviewing the movie via various scene discussions, while the second part of this episode is us talking about “The Holiday” era in Kate Winslet & Cameron Diaz’s careers respectively.

During our review, we discuss meet cutes, the Santa Ana winds, why Arthur is the best character, Angie’s love for Miles/ Jack Black, Steffi’s love for Graham/ Jude Law and our shared love for that iconic 3 way phone call scene.

Then, during our era breakdown, we talk about how “The Holiday” plays up to or against Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet’s on screen personas, respectively. We also discuss Nancy Meyers’ career at this time and how despite the film having underwhelming success, it became a modern day holiday classic over time.

LOGLINE: The Holiday is a 2006 American romantic comedy film written, produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. Coproduced by Bruce A. Block, it was filmed in both California and England and stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz as Iris and Amanda, two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who arrange a home exchange to escape heartbreak during the Christmas and holiday season. Jude Law and Jack Black were cast as the film's leading men Graham and Miles, with Eli Wallach, Shannyn Sossamon, Edward Burns, and Rufus Sewell playing key supporting roles.

    My Best Friend's Wedding & Face/Off

    My Best Friend's Wedding & Face/Off
Sometimes odd couples have the ability to go the long haul. In the spirit of labored cooperation, Overlapping Dialogue pairs two disparate 1997 darlings together for an episode you'll never forget: My Best Friend's Wedding and Face/Off! As always, we kick off the proceedings with a Blue Plate Special slate dedicated to celebrating the lives and legacies of William Friedkin and Robbie Robertson, burying once and for all the rote Airport franchise with The Concorde...Airport '79, praise the new release Past Lives, and attempt to assign coherence to a reluctant participant in Reflections of Evil. We eventually arrive to this episode's double feature, where we judge the extent to which John Travolta and Nicholas Cage's scorched earth tête-à-tête is as deranged and manic as Julia Roberts's sabotage of a lovely wedding of her dear friend and potential lover. Being John Malkovich

    Being John Malkovich

Freaked, Very Bad Things and the Death of Counterculture

Is there space for counterculture when everything is vying for mainstream approval? How do we choose offbeat retro movies for our repertory audiences, and what goes into programming a film series? Plus, we look at two offbeat '90s movies that culture wasn't prepared for yet: Alex Winter and Tom Stern's Freaked and Peter Berg's Very Bad Things.

The crew also congratulated Tamar Braxton and Eveyln Lozada on their engagement on their new show, Queens Court. And we find out that Maria is really competitive when they play an Abbreviation Game. Jamie Foxx is apparently on a firing spree on his new movie set with Cameron Diaz, which is her first film in nine years. People on set are not happy with Jamie Foxx and he is not happy with the direction the film was going. On Mind Body and Business, Maria talks about getting healthy on a budget. She talks about the things you can do to stay healthy that won’t cost a lot of money. Megan Goode is setting the record straight about her divorce and being overlooked in Hollywood in her cover story of Essence magazine.
