Talking Travels and other stuff with the proud owner of Roaming Delilah and founder of The Well Heeled Hippy

Pull up a pew and listen to this week's pod where I chat all things camper van with Octavia Coates,  entrepreneur and founder of The Well Heeled Hippy which offers a bespoke rental service which sleeps two (or with a tent up to four).

When the whole world is concerned about travelling, Octavia has designed a stunning home on wheels with her first project, Roaming Delilah. Find out more about what it's like on the road, and why Octi loves waking up in the great outdoors, watching a film on the van's projector and the pros of being free, exploring and learning new things.

With a second camper van due to join her fleet in November,  there are plenty of exciting collaborations to watch out for, such as foraging weekends in West Wales or star gazing in Devon.

Who knew road trips and slow travel could be so much fun ? #leavenotrace

Ep 18: Campervans & Canine Behaviour with Sif the Vet

Ep 18: Campervans & Canine Behaviour with Sif the Vet

This week we're chatting to renowned animal behaviourist Sif Traustadóttir, a.k.a. Sif the Vet!

We talk about her Icelandic heritage, including some of the unusual traditional food and how that compares to her new home (and cuisine) in Italy! We also touch on her travels across Europe with a campervan (and canine co-pilot), and her work as a Dog behaviourist -  and explore why dogs bark in this week's 60-second CPD.

Sif initially studied in Biology at the University of Iceland and then went on to graduate from Veterinary School in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2003. A lifelong student, Sif then finished her degree in Small Animal Behaviour Counselling from the University of Southampton, UK.

    The reluctant trainspotter

    The reluctant trainspotter

For the past three decades, Wendy French has joined her husband Graham on "holidays" around Australia, where they romantically park up beside disused railway lines and wait – sometimes for days - to see elusive trains. You read correctly... trains. This heartwarming episode is full of laughs and surprises, and a reminder that the things we do for love don't always make sense. All aboard for train-inspired tales across the country.

Jared Campion: Customized Camper Van Entrepreneur

Jared Campion: Customized Camper Van Entrepreneur

This episode I sit down with Jared Campion the co-founder of Dream Drive, a customized Camper Van rental company. Only a little over one-year old, Dream Drive is seeing its business expand exponentially despite the current situation. How did the original idea for   Dream Drive come about and what were the many hurdles in Japan for a foreigner to start a customized rental van company in Japan. Despite extremely high capital investment for a niche Japanese market, Jared's dream for Dream Drive is coming true. Other topics we discuss:

    • The reasons all Camper-Vans are customized "in-house"
    • Difference and advantages of a Camper Van vs. traditional RV
    • The biggest challenges starting his business
    • How he defines his business as "Luxury Hotel on Wheels"
    • What is a "Base Camp Network" and how this is the actual long-term goal of Dream Drive
    • The interesting intinerary differences between domestic customers and inbound tourists
    • We debate five new business ideas for Dream Drive presented by AH
    • Why Japan is better than New Zealand for "Best done by Camper Van"
    • How travel by Camper Van is actually cheaper than by train or plane in Japan
