Not sure if it is our pride or our ages talking but we’ve reached the point where active players we’ve profiled on the show are now Hall of Famers. Congrats to Joe Mauer and Adrian Beltre, and also to Todd Helton even if he was before our (NCiB) time. The hot stove takes Philly favorite Rhys Hoskins to MIL, and brings Cookie Carrasco home to CLE. Joc Pederson tries out yet another NL West team, and the Nats bring Joey Gallo to a ballpark near us. Congrats on the retirement, Collin McHugh, and please spend some of it reactivating your podcast. We profile a couple of 2023 rookie sensations for the Twins, Royce Lewis and Edouard Julien. Over in Wrigley, Pottymouth selects Mike Tauchman and Patti picks Patrick Wisdom. Congrats to the LIDOM champion Tigres de Licey, and to the Ozzie Guillen-managed Tiburones for bringing both a brawl and a drought-breaking championship to the LVBP. We are angry and mournful at the theft of the Jackie Robinson statue from a Wichita park. We are ticked we were beaten to all the good “total eclipse” jokes as the Guardians ponder opening day in totality. Hey check out this super-fun Galentine’s event hosted by Babe’s Babes that we joined last week!

We say “My drum kit was a big squirrel,” “We picked licking his bat as a battle and that was so wrong,” and “There should be a Gallo blossom out there somewhere.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. “At Least They Have the Browns”

“At Least They Have the Browns”

Cleveland fans mourn the loss of Francisco Lindor and Cookie Carrasco, as the Mets made the hottest of hot stove moves last week. The Nationals, and Patti, come to terms with Kyle Schwarber, the target of one of Patti’s most vehement sports grudges. RIP Tommy Lasorda, he of the long and colorful Dodger history and the despicable denying of his son’s life and death. Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds finally make it official after 15 years and one child.

Our boyfriend segment brings random themes of injuries, dreadlocks, bobbleheads, and grand slams. Pottymouth, in her best “if Pepé Le Pew were from Boston” voice, names Franchy Cordero her Royals BF, he of the adorable hair and flashes of brilliance. Patti finally gets to claim outfielder Michael A. Taylor, now that he is no longer a Nat. A little weird to name a BF who is getting married in a few days, but it’s not like that. How did NCiB never name Phillies’ Andrew McCutcheon a boyfriend until now?  He’s perfect for us and now Pottymouth’s got him. Patti has had her eye on Alec Bohm, the second coming of Jayson Werth, since August.

In winter baseball, will the Puerto Rican league get going again? LIDOM is full of playoff excitement and MLB players to watch, and Pottymouth is so through with the Sydney Blue Sox.  Need to feel great? National treasure Maybelle Blair is turning 94, and asks you to donate to the International Women’s Baseball Center.

Until next time, stay the hell inside (we clearly aren’t kidding about bunkers), wear your mask, watch your distance, and fight The Man. Should we be concerned about Indians closer Brad Hand?

Should we be concerned about Indians closer Brad Hand?

In his last three games, Cleveland Indians closer Brad Hand has allowed five runs and eight hits in three innings. As the Indians continue to push for the playoffs, is it time to be concerned about Hand's effectiveness?

Before we get there on this week's Leading Off with Ryan Lewis podcast, we cover these topics:

    - The Indians are coming off their toughest stretch of games this season, winning a series against the Twins, losing a series to the Red Sox and splitting a series with the Yankees. Ryan gives his thoughts on how the team played over the stretch and what we learned about the team, especially when it was without Yasiel Puig in the middle of the batting order.

    - Corey Kluber suffered a setback in his latest rehab start, exiting the game after an inning due to an abdominal strain. What does this mean for his comeback? And if Kluber does return to the Indians this season, which starter is at risk of losing his spot in the rotation?

    - Carlos Carrasco is also starting to work his way back. We explain that while it's a great story, be hesitant with your expectations for the starter.

    - More with Hand: We wondered, do the scars of Indians closers past taint the public opinion of Hand?

    - Ryan explains the pitch that Hand has faltered on, and what could be the cause of his recent struggles.

Roberto Perez's power surge is boosting the Indians

Roberto Perez's power surge is boosting the Indians

The Cleveland Indians are coming off series wins against the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees. Although the team didn't gain much ground in the playoff race, the results are impressive nonetheless.

On today's Leading Off with Ryan Lewis, we cover the team's recent play and how catcher Roberto Perez has helped power the Indians to victory. As Ryan explains, maybe Perez just needed a consistent opportunity as a starter.

Perez is now second on the team with 11 home runs. But as Perez excels, two Indians outfielders are struggling. Jake Bauers and Leonys Martin are both striking out at a high rate. What is the future for both as the season progresses?

We close this week's show talking about the starting pitching situation for the Indians. The team was dealt a serious blow when it was announced that Carlos Carrasco had to step away from the game. But Mike Clevinger should soon be returning and helping to solidify Cleveland's starting rotation.

    Concerned about Kluber?

    Concerned about Kluber?

Matt Stroup and Ryan Boyer break down a number of recent performances and headlines, including Corey Kluber carrying a 6.16 ERA through his first four starts of the season. Is it time to panic, or an ideal opportunity to buy low in fantasy leagues? Meanwhile, there's cause for optimism on Jose Quintana and Zack Wheeler, who both threw gems recently after rough starts to their seasons. Plus, what to make of some notably hot hitters — including Austin Meadows (four homers last week) and Brandon Lowe of the Rays — while our weekly hunt for saves takes us to the NL East after the injury to David Robertson. All that and much more on this episode, and you can check out Ryan's Hot Hitter Rundown on Rotoworld right here.
