This week the gang gloats over an Astro hot streak, wonder if Joey Votto's days as a regular player in Cincinnati will be over sooner than we thought, reconsiders whether Eric Hosmer is a legitimate 3,000 hit candidate, weighs in on baseball players defecting from Cuba (and Cuba's response), dissects umpire Dan Bellino's bizarre um ... interaction with Madison Bumgarner last week (and the declining quality of umpiring or refereeing across sports generally), and applauds or ridicules (or both) the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's inductees.
Read Matt Martel's essay, "Madison Bumgarner’s Ejection Was Actually About an Umpire’s Unrequited Love" at Sports Illustrated (May 4, 2022).

This week the boys start the show with talking about the Yankees winning streak. Don't hate us... They look to be the best team in the league. Is it for real? Home Runs are down so far. Is this good for baseball or bad? Why is the league doctoring the ball? The boys dive in. News came down this week about Trevor Bauer's two-year suspension. This is likely a death sentence for his career. After, the boys discuss manager Dusty Baker getting his 2,000th win. This asks the question: is he a top-10 manager of all-time now? We are now a little over a month into the season, which brings overreactions galore. Is Mike Trout going to win his 4th MVP? Is Eric Hosmer going to have a career year? Are the White Sox's and Tigers' rebuilds in trouble? The boys answer this and more. They round out the show with Fantasy Factory and Collection Corner.

Nelson revealed that the Cubs made a "huge offer" to star shortstop Carlos Correa in free agency this offseason and explained what got in the way. He also shared why he's picking the White Sox to win the World Series. New York Post columnist Ian O'Connor then joined the show to discuss why golf fans should believe Tiger Woods when he proclaimed he can win the Masters. Later, Holmes shared his thoughts on the Bulls making the playoffs and the team's 127-106 loss to the Bucks on Tuesday night.
The first week post lockout led to free agent signings galore with now former Astros Carlos Correa and Zach Greinke going to Minnesota and Kansas City respectively. The big names are off the board with Trevor Story heading to Boston, so for Astro fans, all hopes rest with the talented but inexperienced Jeremy Peña. Beyond that, players moving all over, including Freddie Freeman, Kenley Jensen and Kris Bryant.

Some big signings have happened over the course of the week and the boys are here for it. They talk about the recent Michael Pineda signing in Detroit, which was the consolation prize after the top arms have all been taken. What could Pineda bring to the club, and why didn't he last on other teams he played for? The Dodgers, Twins and Red Sox have all leveled up their squads for the season, and the boys discuss some of the inside details of those dealings. Of all the new deals being agreed upon and arbitration wrapping up, this leads to an interesting early look at what might happen to Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. What if he has a good season? What if the bottom falls out? Will the Yankees spend big for him or let him walk. If they let him walk, where is the best fit for him to play? The boys let the theories fly! This past week two new rules (the Ohtani Rule & the Phantom Runner rules) were signed into the league. The boys talk the good, the bad and the ugly of these rules. Afterwards, they continue their Then and Now series by selecting 15-11 Greatest Games as well as picking the best right fielders in the game right now. They round out the show with Collection Corner.

NCiB boyfriends of the past are making splashy news in trades and free agency. We dwell on Freddie and the Welcome Matts, Eugenio’s qHar, and Miami’s Soler power, among other big bats and homecomings. We profile our fantasy pitching squads – Pottymouth goes west coast with Giants pitching, and Patti is still grooving on Hammers pitching since the World Series. COVID protocols are back in conversation, along with juggling NYC vaccine mandates and Canada’s public health protections. How ‘bout those Red Sox getting stragglers vaxxed?
Our Police Blotter is on repeat with extensions of Trevor Bauer’s admin leave, but also drags Ohio Girl Patti’s Cleveland Browns down to the gutter. Also a crime? The spring training caps frying the scalps of the faint of hair. Big news in the world of Minor League Baseball as a federal judge rules that minor league players are full time employees, not seasonal, so minimum wage and other labor standards apply! Stay tuned! CA State Senator Josh Becker introduced the Minor League Player’s Bill of Rights. Things Are Happening. Spring Training Breakfast Baseball is back with the CPBL.
“We say “horrific piece of legislation,” “a lot of people spend a lot of time on those bridesmaids,” and “Benji but with schnauzer ears.”

Laurence Holmes opened his show by welcoming on Dan Hayes of the Athletic to discuss the Twins' addition of star short Carlos Correa on a three-year, $105-million deal in free agency. What's that mean for the AL Central outlook? Should the White Sox respond with a key addition of their own? Later, Holmes conducted his 2-Minute Report, reflecting on the Bulls' blowout loss to the Suns on Friday and previewing Chicago's game against Toronto on Monday evening.
In the second hour, Steve Rosenbloom and Adam Studzinski examined the Cubs, who didn't sign star shortstop Carlos Correa in free agency. So, what's their plan? Plus, the Bulls lost to another good team Friday night. That was business as usual.
