    Good Will Hunting

    Good Will Hunting

In honor of Women's History Month, Gabby and Amy have decided to strike a blow against the patriarchy by absolutely shredding the 1997 Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting. Famously written by childhood friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the movie presents itself as a sophisticated and emotionally mature look at a troubled but brilliant young man. But instead of deconstructing toxic masculinity, it reinforces it in ways its creators do not seem aware of. No stars.

    Episode 30 - 200 Cigarettes

    Episode 30 - 200 Cigarettes
"Throwing a party it's like... it's like an invitation for abuse. It's like the last desperate act of someone who hasn't had a lasting relationship since Junior High." - Monica

Sooooooooooooo.........New Year's Eve was very different this year. Covid19 has parties squashed, but that is no reason you couldn't find a way to ring in 2021 with some fun! Andrea and Melissa joined this virtual NYE set in the 80s ,by digging out the well-loved DVD - 200 Cigarettes. Through recording this episode, we discovered that this movie has become a rare vintage gem! 200 Cigarettes is not streaming or On Demand, but you can go old school and buy the DVD on eBay for a pretty penny. The cast in this movie had us laughing out loud and reminiscing about the early careers of SO MANY STARS! What a great way to virtually party and get our New Year's Eve positive vibes. Think of this as going to a party without all the B. S. of going to a party *said in a NY accent*.

The Old Man and The Gun

The Old Man and The Gun

In this episode, our hosts take another sip from the David Lowery chalice and sit down to discuss 2018's The Old Man and The Gun.

The film has a wonderfully light touch, and this episode breezes by as the boys discuss the films many highlights including an effortless performance from Robert Redford in his final film role.

next week: Mark Jenkin's low-fi 2019 drama, Bait

    Faithspotting A Ghost Story

    Faithspotting A Ghost Story

Kenny and Mike discuss the film and faith elements spotted in David Lowery's A Ghost Story, which stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara.

Both Mike and Kenny enjoyed the film and found it to be an organic film that does not resort to artificial devices or technology to capture interest and inspire reflection after viewing. The film is highly recommended for those who enjoy, and savor films that work to generate interest through strong story and character development.

    Faith Matters Spotted:

Fear to move forward: Excessive nostalgia, clinging to objects, places, and times in life is rooted in fear of losing the familiar rather than faith in the future. The Ghost's halting before a portal to an afterlife is emblematic of the Israelites halting in taking over the land God promised. God forced the Israelites to wander in the wilderness because of their lack of faith in God's faithfulness to protect and provide for the nation. The result for the Ghost was to remain in the present observing rather than living life.    (Numbers 32)

Seeing and Experiencing God Through a Veil: In our lives we only experience God, our relationship with God and living in the Kingdom of God through a veil or dimmed mirror. (I Corinthians 13:12, II Corinthians 3:13-16)

The Timeless Nature of God:  Though remaining in his current life, the Ghost moves forward and backward through time, through the history of location of the home. God as Alpha and Omega, beginning and end, God is timeless. Time, as known in worldly ways do not limit God as it does with creation.  (Genesis 1:1-5, John 1:1-3, Hebrews 13:8, Revelation 1:8, 21:6, 22:13)

Reseña Light of my life de Casey Affleck – Declaración de amor paternal

Reseña Light of my life de Casey Affleck – Declaración de amor paternal

    Episode 22 - Chasing Amy

    Episode 22 - Chasing Amy

Kevin Smith's 1997 turd pile, "Chasing Amy," has 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. We didn't want to waste our time wading through this cesspool of a movie, but the critics didn't do their job, so we had to.

Ben Affleck plays Holden McNeil, a pompous stand in for Kevin Smith who continually spits out pseudo-intellectual diatribes about the meaning of love and what it is to be a true artist.

Jason Lee plays Banky Edwards, an ultra-sarcastic comic book inker who aggressively sabotages his best friend Holden's relationship in the hopes that Holden will one day decide to become gay and romantically love him instead.

Joey Lauren Adams plays Alyssa Jones, a lesbian who somehow falls for Holden's douchey persona, but the relationship quickly crumbles when Banky reveals to Holden that Alyssa had a promiscuous past.

Jim raps in this episode, so it's worth a listen just for that.
