The Wizarding World of Disaster Prevention (w/Greg Lane)

The Wizarding World of Disaster Prevention (w/Greg Lane)

Tokyo Cheapo Co-founder Greg Lane joins the boys to talk about a new Harry Potter theme park plus unmanned convenience stores. BTW, did you hear? JK Rowling says that just because they're "unmanned" doesn't make them women.

Also, Ollie recommends a river cruise that, on the one hand, is profiting off of racism, but on the other hand, has gathered a bunch of racists in one, pretty vulnerable location. Just saying. Plus, Bobby lets a bunch of angry river cruise shachos yell at Greg for 25 minutes.

Topics discussed on this episode range from:

    • Tourism/event related business woes
    • Bobby's t-shirt
    • Overcorrecting perceived racism
    • The (main) difference between Michelle Obama and Bob Sapp
    • The plans to open a new Harry Potter park in Tokyo
    • Why Disney Prince is such an appealing career option
    • Why any modern business plan needs to be at least 50% the answer to the world's political and environmental problems
    • The liquefaction issues at Disney
    • How to make disaster prevention whimsical
    • Theme parks going contactless to prevent transfer of germs AND Sexual Misconduct accusations
    • How nice it is to have cashless.
    • Sorry, I meant how to "have a nice cashless."
    • Japan's weird order for technology adoption
    • Unmanned convenience stores
    • How all of the self-checkout technology either feels like shoplifting or lends to it
    • How going "personless" is still pretty meaningless because we all still end up touching each other anyway

Topics discussed in the extras range from:

    • How Ollie has bonded with the call center people
    • How travel companies and affiliate sites are splitting up that tourism money
    • Greg's insight into the tensions between the old guard and the new guard in the Japanese tourism industry
    • Behind the scenes in how the money gets handed out in the talent industry
    • What Greg has learned about the differences between how our Asian neighbors and our Western family members travel Japan
    • What you ARE allowed to do with those Mario Karts, but shouldn't
    • What Greg said to the family of four who wanted to book a night in a manga kissa
    • What the real work behind running a site like Tokyo Cheapo requires
    • Some of the ways in which Japan DOES rip off tourists
    • What Greg SHOULDN'T say about tourists, but then does
    • How much it costs to for Jiro-dreams-of sushi to jerk you off

Why so much heat on Huawei?

Why so much heat on Huawei?

It's the controversial Chinese technology giant banned from building infrastructure in countries around the world. What is it about Huawei that's generating so much heat? Plus, Twitter considers labelling 'harmfully misleading' tweets by politicians, but will it work? Also on DTS this week, is it lying if a politician's computer generates his own face speaking in another language? And Sweden road-tests a new cashless future. Guests: Rae Johnston, Science and Technology Editor, NITV @raejohnston + Daniel Van Boom, News Editor @CNET @dvanboom

Mobile Payment is Ubiquitous in China, and What is Coming Next?

Mobile Payment is Ubiquitous in China, and What is Coming Next?
Mobile payment is ubiquitous in China and it is enabled through a different way than in the western world. According to eMarketer, in addition to the pervasive usage at ecommerce through online mobile payment, proximity mobile payment users in China is 577.4 million (by far the largest in the world), with a penetration rate of 81.1% of smartphone users. China is steadily marching toward a cashless society, enabled by Alibaba’s Alipay and Tencent’s WeChat Pay. Those two leading payment systems have introduced QR code-backed payments into the daily habits of consumers, from purchasing in supermarkets or convenient stores to buying a subway ticket. How did this happy in China? And what is coming next? Please join me to the dialogue with Karl Weaver, a wireless and mobile device ecosystem specialist in the Smart Card sector of the wireless industry, and China/Asia-Pacific Business Development Director for Rivetz Corp, an ICO and Mobile Devices Security firm.

#5 One Smart Ring to Rule Them All (with McLEAR)

#5 One Smart Ring to Rule Them All (with McLEAR)
First, there was just cash. Then we invented cheques, credit cards, chip and pin, and eventually, contactless. But just when we thought spending money couldn’t get any easier, a brand new piece of tech has appeared on the scene: the smart ring. On this episode, we’re speaking to Dan Blondell from McLEAR about the magical future of payments, and how contactless tech can do much more than let us buy lunch. Questions & comments? ORP Session #19: Michi Wimmer (Cashless)

ORP Session #19: Michi Wimmer (Cashless)

…dass man nie etwas öffnen sollte, wo „DO NOT OPEN WHEN HOT“ drauf steht

    …etliche, unglaubliche, mega unterhaltsame Anekdoten

TMR 103 : Dr. Katherine Albrecht : RFID Implant Technology & The Mark of The Beast

TMR 103 : Dr. Katherine Albrecht : RFID Implant Technology & The Mark of The Beast
This week we welcome Dr. Katherine Albrecht, privacy researcher, consumer advocate and bestselling author, who joins us for a wide-ranging discussion centred in her fascinating and compelling hypothesis that "the mark of the Beast" in the Book of Revelation might one day see literal fulfilment in the form of electronic identification devices implanted into human beings. "He also caused everyone (small and great, rich and poor, free and slave) to obtain a mark on their right hand or on their forehead. Thus no one was allowed to buy or sell things unless he bore the mark of the beast – that is, his name or his number." (Rev. 13:16f, NET Bible) Mindful of recent news that managers at an office block in Stockholm are inviting workers to receive RFID implants in the hand for the sake of ease and efficiency, Dr. Albrecht decribes her successful battle against the dangerous use of RFID implant technology, and explains how an experience of God in 1999 set her on the path of warning the world about the growing infrastructure of surveillance and control. Dr. Katherine Albrecht is senior executive with the private search engines StartPage and Ixquick, is on the team behind the new privacy-protecting email program StartMail, and holds a Doctorate in Human Development and Consumer Education from Harvard University.
