    Episode Thirty-Three: spookyclt

Hello theydies, ladies, and gentlemen! THIS IS SO EXCITING! IN OUR OWN BACKYARD! This week we introduce to you: SpookyCLT! A group dedicated to sharing the lore and legends of Charlotte, North Carolina’s local haunts. You can read all about Charlotte’s spooky world on their instagram page @spookyclt and on their website spookyclt.com! We love Jason and Melanie and we hope you enjoy hearing their bone-chilling stories of granny ghosts, large specters on the edge of cemeteries, the lake Norman monster, and even more! Give it a listen! Also, if you want to change up your wardrobe during quarantine (because we know you're sick of that same grey tank top with the Malbec stain,) SpookyCLT have wicked merch available on their site, as well!

*If you have any extra $$$ laying around month to month we would LOVE to have you over in our secret society on Patreon. For as little as $1 (!!!) you could have access to bonus content like extra episodes, tarot readings, and even more. Any and all donations on Patreon go directly towards building the podcast up and making it accessible to more and more people! We appreciate your contributions SO MUCH!

**HELP SAVE THE USPS AND DEMOCRACY!! Buy a stamp, send a letter to your estranged one-eyed father who lives with his nameless wife on the misty moors of Scotland and only sends you $5 on your birthday...and PLEASE vote on November 3rd, or BEFORE if you are voting by mail! Head over to vote.org or your local DMV website to register or check your registration status!

    xoxo see you next week!

Rosenwald Schools: A Booker T. Washington Inspiration

Rosenwald Schools: A Booker T. Washington Inspiration

We had to start off the show with a couple of corrections to the podcast!  Oops!  In this episode, we discuss the home, life and work of Dr. George E. Davis and his tireless efforts to establish Rosenwald Schools in North Carolina.  Dr. Davis was also the first black professor at Biddle Institute, now Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.  He was inspired by Booker T. Washington.

Remembering Heroes: Lillian Arhelger, Independence Park & American Legion Memorial Stadium

Remembering Heroes: Lillian Arhelger, Independence Park & American Legion Memorial Stadium

In this episode, we discuss Independence Park including the Sunnyside Rose Garden, the Lillian Arhelger Memorial and the creators of the park.  We also tell the history of American Legion Memorial Stadium--the home of sporting events, concerts, and celebrations from 1936 until today.  The first football game was between UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest, and a stadium rally was attended by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on September 10, 1936.  Learn about these stories and more.
