UN036: The Ultimate Drag Nun Makeup Challenge

Oh baby it's a new year!  And sometimes that means setting new goals and challenges for oneself for the year ahead.  Well, we decided we may as well be swift and just get the biggest challenge out of the way so we can enjoy the rest of our year!  That's right, Sister Alaska Lott and Babeushka are doing the ultimate drag nun makeup challenge this January: getting ready for a night out, all without using a mirror of any sort!

Will you still recognise their signature looks when they can't see what they are doing?  Will it be a complete car crash and the look will turn us all to stone?  Will Alaska take the same amount of time as usual?  And will anything Babeushka writes even be recognisable as words?

Pour a cup of tea, get comfy, hit play, and find out ;)

In the season of giving, we have an additional helping of Tangents and Waffles for you! In this special one-off, Sister Alaska Lott and Sister Babeushka consider just how well the queer community would cope with a zombie apocalypse!

Cause nothing says Christmas like a zombie apocalypse ;)

Tangents & Waffles is the extra helping of Utter Nunsense you never knew you needed!  Each month while filming the show, there is so much rich conversation, as well as some terrible bloopers or shade, that not all of it makes the final edit.  So we decided it would be great to give you also an extra serving of nunsense throughout the month by compiling some of the best bits that just missed out on being includ in Utter Nunsense.

Today's episode is a frolic through some of bloopers we have had such as:

    • Serving heaps of sarcasm,
    • Pointing our evil eyes at each other,
    • Telling our gender it just isn't working and it needs to move out,
    • Catching STI's like Pokemon,
    • and much much more!

UN035: A Safer Sex Guide provided by A.I. Robots

With everyone talking about A.I. and how it is going to change the future, we at the Haus of Nunsense decided to test it out and see if our time was limited before we were replaced by robots (even if they would look less glamerous than us!)

And what better way to try this, than using the month's Utter Nunsense episode to mark World Aids Day 2023 with a safer sex guide for the queer community?  This way we can test out how good the A.I. really is, see if it is an ally to the queer community, and share educational points to ensure you can go out and 'play' safely ;)

So grab your cup of hot tea and join us for a rather chaotic episode of Utter Nunsense!

Today's episode is a frolic through two sets of bloopers we have had on the show:

    • The first half focusing on all the jokes made during filming when Sister Babeushka's camera kept acting up, looking like she had been blasted by radiation out in Chernobyl,

    and

    • The second half focusing on all the jokes made during filming with Sister Kim Boocha where for logistical reasons we were using a pre-recorded video but we couldn't help pretending that Kim was just giving us the cold shoulder when she didn't respond to some of our questions!

    Anna Sale’s takeaways
These are the takeaways from the end of the episode. For more takeaways from all of our guests, subscribe to the Sound Judgment newsletter and visit our blog.

    1. Anna and her team hold two conflicting realities in their heads all the time: The show exists to talk about the things we normally keep private. But podcasts exist online, for all the world to consume and Google to find. So be clear about your show’s values. Practice journalistic ethics, and also the specific principles around how you want to treat your guests. Know that you will deal with these kinds of human conflicts every day.
    2. How do you prep a guest? Before an interview, Anna shares how they plan to edit and use the interview. If a guest requests anonymity, she may grant it in order to protect them and their longterm digital record.
    3. Fact-checking is always important, especially these days. But if you allow anonymity, it becomes even more critical.
    4. Perhaps my biggest takeaway from this conversation is that Death, Sex and Money is one big, warm place, where listeners are invited in and welcomed. Anna is proud that she and her team make listeners feel accompanied, wherever they take them.
    5. Finally, your guests expect hard questions. Don’t wimp out.

UN032: Cishet culture is awkward AF!

In the past we may have looked into if the cishets (cisgender hetero folks) were okay, and by the types of memes we found then, well, it wasn't the best light they painted themselves in....

But as we all know, you can't just base your opinion on one single observation so we just had to jump back on to the subreddit r/AreTheStraightsOK looking for even MOAR memes to see if what we said last time was fair. Only this time, we were met with a lot of cringe, as well as some interesting clothing observations, obsessions with corn dogs, and some questionably quick encounters. So join us for a lot of raised eyebrows, laughs, and nunsense!

I think we can quite clearly say from the memes we have seen...cishet culture is awkward AF!!!

UN031: Does Queer Representation in Media Matter?

We all consume media in some way, whether it's books, comics, films, TV shows, videogames or other mediums.  But how many of us feel like we are being fairly represented in terms of certain aspects of who we are?

Alaska Lott and Babeushka are determined to look into the question, does queer representation in media even matter anymore?  And what pieces of queer media have had a profund impact on our sisters?

    UN029: Fixing Pride's Accessibility Problem

Although Pride is a staple in many people's calendars, it seems not everyone is invited to the party. In fact, there have been many complaints over the years about Pride celebrations often being inaccessible - from difficult march routes to lack of accessible bathrooms, the annual celebrations can present a range of difficulties for some members of the community.

But how can we fix it?

We've brought together four fabulous members of The Order of Perpetual Indulgence, each with their own accessibility requirements, to put forward their top suggestions for finally making pride accessible to the wider community.
