Katie and Jordan get the ol’ Chiang Mai Shanghai in this week’s adventure. What started as a trip to teach English turns out to be ten days in a village atop Doi Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand where Catholicism rules and the priest is a demi-god.

Myanmar's exiled media finds a home in Chiang Mai

Myanmar's media, fleeing the military's crackdown on journalists, have found a new home in Chiang Mai. Over the past year, parts of the media ecosystem — journalists, newsrooms, funders — have re-established their operations the northern Thai city.

The creation of this new hub represents an important milestone for this region. For the first time, we're seeing an ecosystem built around media startups coming together in Southeast Asia.

Splice's co-founder Alan Soon was on a road trip with Sonny Swe, the CEO and founder of Frontier Myanmar. They talked about how Frontier made the move, and what's in store for 2022. This interview was recorded in Sonny's car on a drive from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai.

The Mind of a Digital Nomad - Tom Libelt Interview Ep. 8.0

    Hosted By: L J

Tom Libelt learned from a young age how to sell and negotiate business by getting haggled by Russian vendors.

His family moved from Poland to the US to escape communism and his parents took any job they could to survive.

After seeing all this as a young man, this motivated him to never want a "job" and keep moving forward as an entrepreneur and now a true Digital Nomad.

Before the new norm of working remotely that dominates the Coronaverse - Tom was living it and running his successful We Market Online Courses & Smart Brand Marketing Firm.

After working and living in around 14 countries, he currently divides his time between the US, Poland and Thailand.

In this epidsode - we explore the Mind of a Digital Nomad. Getting a little deeper into the history and experiences that make Tom the man he is today and giving a little insight into his history, business, energy management and ideas that you might need if first you think about embarking on a Digital Nomadic journey especially alluring during these uncertain times in the Coronaverse where opportunity and new horizons beckon, to those willing to make a change.

So lets have some fun - and dive into The Mind of a Digital Nomad.

NWP 46: The Vert Club Before The CM6 Race

NWP 46: The Vert Club Before The CM6 Race

In this special episode, i'm joined with some trail running friends, #vertclub,  where we go into some thoughts about our upcoming race called the CM6 that takes place in Northern Thailand on August 8.

As we all know, Covid-19 created difficulties for all races around the world with many cancelling and postponing their event.  CM6 wasn't any different and the race was recently given the green light by the Thai government to proceed with caution and particular limitations.

Anyway, thanks to proper enforcement to help contain the Covid situation in Thailand, this little trail running wolf pack is "ready" to toe the line once again.  In this chat we go into our 34km trail run earlier that morning, share some trail running tips and even go into the things that got us/keep us running.  And not all our answers have to do with alcohol, but since most of us were drinking during this... guess we can't completely say that they weren't influenced by it.

    Hope you enjoy the episode!

Ep# 23 Ani Pema - Buddhist nun, on 50 years of spiritual practice developing her humanity.

Ep# 23 Ani Pema - Buddhist nun, on 50 years of spiritual practice developing her humanity.

Our guest today is with Swami Dayananda or as she’s known today, Ani Pema, a Tibetan Buddhist nun. And we’re your hosts Marc Ketchel and Larry Holmes.

Swamiji currently resides in Chiang Mai, Thailand, but has spent decades living and traveling in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Thailand. She is a direct disciple of Swami Muktananda, the Shaktipat (or Direct Transmission) Master, and spent the last 12 years of his life with him as he traveled the world initiating thousands into the Way of the Siddhas or Perfect Masters.

After Muktananda’s passing she eventually found resonance with Tibetan Buddhism and was initiated into a monastic order as a nun in 2001 in Bhutan.

Our conversation covers the full spectrum of her spiritual work in many yogic disciplines and spiritual traditions as well as the convergence of Transpersonal Psychology as taught by Jungian professors prominent at the time.

In our conversation, we discuss her investigations and study of the effects of multigenerational trauma in spiritual practice and awakening. We explore the understanding of Shaktipat and subsequent Kundalini unfoldment. She shares with us what she feels is the most important understanding gleaned from the 50 years of her practice, what she calls embodied humanity.

We discuss her discoveries through deep spiritual work in two of the greatest direct transmission lineages in modern spirituality.  Her wisdom and insights are rare and completely applicable to our current times.

We hope you enjoy this conversation.

E4: Lisa Nesser - Building a social enterprise abroad

E4: Lisa Nesser - Building a social enterprise abroad

Lisa Nesser arrived in Thailand 15 years ago with $500 in her bank account and a round-trip ticket home. But after seeing the way Burmese refugees were being denied entrance to Thai schools, she decided to open her own school in her back yard. Since then, she’s created a small empire of social enterprises in Chiang Mai (a vegan restaurant, a zero-waste store, a donation center, and many more), and has mentored dozens of Burmese refugees to help them start their own successful social enterprises. Lisa is a powerhouse social entrepreneur, and it was an honor to sit down with her for this conversation.

This conversation is a must-listen for anyone interested in social entrepreneurship and not-for-profit work abroad.

    Episode 64: Hong Thaimee

A former model and corporate executive, driven to introspection after a natural disaster, resolves to move from her native Thailand to New York City and become a chef. That’s the improbable, and improbably successful, journey of Chef Hong Thaimee, who now presides over a number of Thai restaurants in New York City, with dreams of conquering the world “one pad Thai at a time.” Hong shares her story with Andrew, painting us a verbal picture of her Chiang Mai childhood, first days in New York City, education at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Spice Market restaurant, and adventures as an entrepreneur in a strange land.
