Let's Talk Wild EP 7 - New Research: Prosocial Behavior, Wild Chimpanzees Apply Insects To Their Wounds

A volunteer for the Ozouga Chimpanzee Project has documented the first sighting of wild chimpanzees using and applying insects to their wounds. Some believe that chimpanzees are showing prosocial behavior seen outside of the human species. They're showing actions that benefit each other like humans empathizing with each other, but this topic is still up for debate among researchers. In this week's episode: Let's Talk Wild EP 7 - New Research: Prosocial Behavior, Wild Chimpanzees Apply Insects To Their Wounds, I'll give you guys the updated research notes and my thoughts.

    18 - Project Nim (2011)

For this episode we've watched our very first documentary - Project Nim (2011)! The film follows a controversial research experiment aiming to raise a baby Chimpanzee as human, including teaching him sign language in the hope he will learn to use sentences.

What begins as a heartwarming tale quickly takes a dark turn and Nim's tragic life becomes one of our most upsetting & heartbreaking Projects so far!

A Future for African Apes with Gregg Tully | S1E9

A Future for African Apes with Gregg Tully | S1E9

The bushmeat industry, the illegal pet trade, rampant habitat loss, and much more. All of these combined would wipe out ape and monkey populations across Africa if it weren't for the organizations at the frontlines of conservation. Chief among them is the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), a US-based nonprofit created by African primate sanctuaries to coordinate species-saving efforts around the continent and help craft a more secure future for all African apes- bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas, & humans. Join us for this episode of Talking Apes with Gregg Tully, Executive Director of PASA, as we unpack the challenges and complexities of building this future for apes.

Talking Apes is the podcast that gets to the very heart of what is happening with and to apes like us. We explore the world of apes and primates with experts, conservationists, and passionate primate people from around the world. Join us as we unpack their weird and wonderful lives piece by piece.

Traditions and tool use among Bili-Uéré chimpanzees

Traditions and tool use among Bili-Uéré chimpanzees

Dr Cleve Hicks from the University of Warsaw in Poland has been observing a special group of chimpanzees that have developed their own customs and traditions.

Despite the logistical difficulties involved in reaching a remote part of DR Congo , as well as the ever-present threat of malaria and the dangers of armed conflict, Hicks and his team managed to document how these chimpanzees live – including tool making, feeding habits and sleeping style.

Emerging Infectious Diseases with Disease Detective Dr Tony Goldberg | S1E5

Virodiversity explores the world of emerging infectious disease and zoonosis with disease detective Dr. Tony Goldberg, a professor of pathobiological sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Veterinary Medicine.

For disease detective Dr. Tony Goldberg, the ever-lurking emissaries of infectious disease — viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites — are the epidemiological Easter eggs that nature sprinkles on the landscapes of the world. Hiding in soil, water, plants, insects, and, frequently, other animals are pathogens that seemingly spring from nowhere to sow misery, death, and economic ruin. Join us on this episode to see how this field studies the consequences - sometimes dire - on wild ape populations.

    Bobo Wallmansson

    Bobo Wallmansson

In this week's episode, Leo and guest co host Verity Babbs chat to Swedish contemporary artist Bobo Wallmansson.
    -
Our chat covers Bobo's first foray into the arts, how his mother's harsh criticism changed his artistic direction, ( for the better). What it's like being a successful artist in the 21st Century, and a whole lot more.
    -
Bobo has a somewhat unorthodox art career in that he doesn't have large gallery representation, but still manages to sell work internationally to an eager collection base. He discusses his rock star approach to being an artist and why he thinks social media is a tool for good in terms of fostering community.
    -
We discussed the art market in Sweden and which artists he particularly feels inspired by. Of course we got onto why he paints those adorable monkeys and what the secret behind them really is...
    -
' Don't wait for anyone else to come to you, just do it yourself'

Ep. 172: Taking 'The Social Leap' of Faith

Ep. 172: Taking 'The Social Leap' of Faith

Naren has read a fascinating book called 'The Social Leap' by William Von Hippel which helps understand the connection between evolution and our social behaviour today. Joining Naren through this transformative journey with additional insights are Tony and Srikeit. With lack of Wikipedia summaries available, the ultracrepidarians talk about evolutionary titbits like why chimps have larger testes than gorillas, the truth about lice and how humans have evolved socially as a species.

    Simblified is:
An Indian podcast that takes things that happen around us and deconstructs them in a manner you can understand and impress your colleagues, next interviewer, date or cat. Run by four folks seeking a return to the "good ol' days of Twitter" - Chuck, Naren, Srikeit & Tony, Simblified has the guarantee of "if we can understand it, you can!" and proceeds to look at everything from technology to politics to weird phenomena to questions you never knew you wanted to be answered. Along the way, you'll hear lots of bad jokes, facts, PG Wodehouse references, and more bad jokes. Hopefully, you'll have a laugh.

Are We There Yet? NonHuman Rights with Steven Wise

Are We There Yet? NonHuman Rights with Steven Wise
Today we’re discussing civil rights, however, probably not what first comes to your mind, considering these turbulent times. With my guest Steven Wise, the founder and president of The Nonhuman Rights Project, the only civil rights organization in the United States working gain legally recognized and fundamental rights for nonhuman animals in the courtroom. One by one, these cases of law of personhood are gaining a groundswell of movement, a paradigm shift of how we interact and perceive the other earthlings and non-humans we live amongst and with. The paradigm shift holds hope that eventually, we humans will shift our mindset to understand that earth is a person, with the full associated rights of law. We humans have given ‘personhood’ to corporations, which may be at the bottom of these entities breaking her apart for sheer economic gains. With these cases one by one, NhRP activism globally builds the human mindset that all life on earth has basic civil rights
