Kielder Narratives: How we brought art & space together!

Kielder Narratives: How we brought art & space together!

In this episode we are joined by some of the team behind out "Kielder Narratives" project: Composer Will Todd, Poet Dan Simpson, and musician & Producer Chad Male join Ian Brannan & Director of Astronomy Dan Pye to tell the story behind the work, and we will also hear the final production in full too!

Kielder Narratives is a collaborative project which builds upon the work we have already delivered with Southpaw Dance Company as part of Kielder Dark Skies.
We wanted to find different ways of engaging the communities in and around Kielder, so that they themselves can tell their story of working, living and playing in such a unique environment.

Funded by Arts Council England, Kielder Observatory were able to commission a poet, Dan Simpson, to complete a residency in the area- engaging with local communities to find out what the dark skies mean to them. The poet co-created poems, plays, songs and spoken word pieces to help articulate the thoughts and feelings of the communities were work in.

Ep. 208: Degrees Of Separation... LEMMY

Ep. 208: Degrees Of Separation... LEMMY

This week we offer up the 11th installment of our series called, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss side projects and solo releases from artists we love. It also happens to be your favorite co-host Robert’s birthday… So, what better way to celebrate his 32nd b-day than by listening to some music from one of his all-time favorites: Ian Fraser Kilmister. Lemmy!!! Not much more to say about the man, the myth, the legend. A rock n’ roll icon that deserves the praise.

New to InObscuria? It’s all about digging up obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about an artist that many of you know in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects and duets he had over his career. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Hawkwind - “Lost Johnny” from Hall Of The Mountain Grill (1974)
    2. Slash - “Doctor Alibi” from Slash (2010)
    3. Headgirl - “Please Don’t Touch” from St. Valentine’s Day Massacre EP (1981)
    4. Probot - “Shake Your Blood” from Probot (2004)
    5. HeadCat - “Something Else” from Walk The Walk… Talk The Talk (2011)
    6. Lemmy & Wendy O. Williams - “Stand By Your Man” from Stand By Your Man EP (1982)
    7. Lemmy - “Tie Your Mother Down” from Dragon Attack: A Tribute To Queen (1997)
    8. Ozzy Osbourne & Lemmy - “Hellraiser” from Hellraiser (30th Anniversary Edition) - single (2021)

Ep 91: Cannabis Wellness Coach Scott Von Heldt: Sufi, Metal Musician, Cannabis for Higher Vibration

Out of LA, Scott Von Heldt is such a unique mix of the heavy metal experience, spirituality and the knowledge of higher vibrations from cannabis. We go from the music industry getting into Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's suicides, to being a Sufi with an Ohio Christian upbringing to his wealth of knowledge on marijuana from sativa, indica, CBD and how different strands really influence people and their energy which also equates to challenges such as PTSD, insomnia, depression, ADHD to name a few.

He closes us out in the Just Be Practice helping us with a meditation using the 5 elements.

Ep. 186: Under The Grunge Part 5

Ep. 186: Under The Grunge Part 5

It’s that time of year again, where we lace up our Doc Martins and hike over to the Pacific Northwest to the land of everything GRUNGE! Is it possible that we are on our 5th ep in this series and we still haven’t played Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam??? Oh yeah… Your hosts remember this time fondly, as we were young adults when the Seattle scene invaded all rock n’ roll avenues in the US.

This episode features songs from bands outside the big 4 of grunge, or the Seattle sound, or whatever you want to call that stuff that happened in the early 90s. A perfect amalgam of punk, classic rock, and metal is right in our wheelhouse. We have a lot of fun reminiscing about this unique time in rock history. Grab a Starbucks, put your flannel on, and join us on the trek!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Mind Funk – “Goddess” or “Mama, Moses and Me” from Dropped (1993)
    2. Satchel – “Taste It” from EDC (1994)
    3. PJ Harvey – “Victory” from Dry (1992)
    4. Billionaire – “The Jimmie Hale Mission” from Ascension (2000)
    5. Malfunkshun – “My Liberty (With Morals)” from Return To Olympus (1987)
    6. For Love Not Lisa – “Nothing But The Heavy” from The Lost Elephant (1999)

Ep. 182: Pulling The Plug... More Acoustic Rock n' Punk n' Metal

Ep. 182: Pulling The Plug... More Acoustic Rock n' Punk n' Metal

Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Usually, the slower ballads and the prettier mellow songs by rock artists were accompanied by acoustic guitars. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artist that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Classless Act – “All That We Are” from Welcome To The Acoustic Show - EP (2022)
    2. Minus The Bear – “Knights” from Acoustics (2008)
    3. The Pretty Reckless – “Only Love Can Save Me Now” from Other Worlds (2022)
    4. Backyard Babies – “Th1rt3en Or Nothing” from Silver & Gold (2019)
    5. Flyleaf – “Fully Alive” from Flyleaf (2005)
    6. Machine Head – “Darkness Within” from Unto The Locust (2011)
    7. Sway – “Stood” from Kawfee Talk (1998)

    Remember Music Videos? Vanessa's Picks!

    Remember Music Videos? Vanessa's Picks!

By popular demand, this week we have another music video-themed episode, however this time it's dedicated to Vanessa's picks of her favorite music videos from her childhood and adolescence. In that spirit we tackle the extended cut of Paul Abdul's classic video for "Rush, Rush" and discuss the time that Vanessa had a conversation with Keanu Reeves about making it. We also delve into the dramatic video for Bon Jovi's power ballad "Always" and Jonah recalls the time that Richie Sambora snubbed him because he wasn't in a band playing at Madison Square Garden. (Still not bitter about that, Richie.) We also dig deep into Soundgarden's psychedelic visual companion to "Black Hole Sun" and Jonah gives a little love to Metallica's austere clip for "The Unforgiven," which is a little too dark for Vanessa's taste. Whether you're a fan of Vitalogy or Vibeology, there's something for everyone on this Bayer-centric episode of HOW DID WE GET WEIRD?

Ep. 143: Under The Grunge Part 4

This week we once again lace up our Doc Martins and hike over to the Pacific Northwest to the land of everything GRUNGE! As usual, we discuss the bands just outside the usual suspects of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam. Your hosts remember this time fondly, as we were young adults when the Seattle scene invaded all rock n’ roll avenues in the US.

This episode features songs from bands outside the big 4 of grunge, but we don’t think you’ll be totally surprised. A perfect amalgam of punk, classic rock, and metal is right in our wheelhouse. We have a lot of fun reminiscing about this unique time in rock history. Grab a Starbucks, put your flannel on, and join us!

    Miles Mosley

    Miles Mosley

Miles Mosely is a captivating artist whose unique stylings have invited many to refer to him as the Jimi Hendrix of upright bass. Combining a solid groove and improvisational prowess with his upright, bow, and an array of effects pedals, Miles has contributed his innovative tones to top acts from Chris Cornell and Kendrick Lamar to Korn’s Jonathan Davis and Rihanna—and that’s alongside his own solo records and work for film soundtracks. On this week’s episode, host Josh Paul goes in depth with Miles on his story, style, and playing philosophy which—despite its unconventionality—speaks to any musician with a passion for playing music and a need to be heard.

    dUg Pinnick (Kings X)

    dUg Pinnick (Kings X)

Dug Pinnick is a singer, songwriter and bass player who’s played with a ton of great musicians. Some of his projects include Tres Mts. (with Jeff Ament), KXM (with George Lynch & Ray Luzier), and The Mob (with Reb Beach & Kip Winger). Of course his main gig is with King’s X and they have a new album coming out called “Three Sides of One.” In this episode we discuss the new album, a scary car accident, his relationship with Chris Cornell, religion, philosophy and the Tommy Lee dick pic. I had an absolute blast talking to dUg!

Corey McCormick (Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real)

Corey McCormick (Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real)

Welcome to Roadcase!!  We are so incredibly psyched to present the one and only Corey McCormick for this episode. Corey has been playing bass in Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real since 2010, and has also played with Chris Cornell, Koshi Inaba, Neil Young and Willie Nelson. With a career that has now spanned over two decades, Corey, who is also a father of two young boys, has literally done it all -- and is extremely grateful for the amazing experiences he has encountered in his life as a touring musician. His dedication is also extraordinary; Corey studied Music Performance at Long Beach State before embarking on his journey and continues to work extremely hard at his craft. Family life is also important to Corey -- while having spent years on the road, he is now also focused on the broader picture of what it all means. Energetic and introspective, Corey is a model of focus and dedication, and knows what it takes to continue to succeed both personally and professionally in his chosen life. His side project, Organa, provides Corey with an outlet for his multi-varied musical interests, and this funk, rock and soul trio is exciting and fresh. Check out Organa's new single, "Demons & Devils," on all the streaming platforms.  And hop aboard the Roadcase Bus to learn even more about Corey McCormick -- the musician, Dad, and all-around cool dude. It's gonna be a great ride!

Episode 24 - GRUNGE MONTH 2 | Mother Love Bone vs Temple Of The Dog

Episode 24 - GRUNGE MONTH 2 | Mother Love Bone vs Temple Of The Dog

Jason and Imran conclude their second grunge exploration and their trilogy of battles with Hannah with Mother Love Bone - Apple vs Temple Of The Dog - Temple Of The Dog, where it all began.
Apple is the only full length studio album Mother Love Bone ever released as days before dropping, frontman, Andrew Wood died from an overdose. In tribute, Soundgarden singer, Chris Cornell (also a roommate of Wood's) got together with surviving members of the band, plus recruiting Mick McCready and Eddie Vedder, the future Pearl Jam, to comprise the seminal Temple Of The Dog album.

    Who wins this one?
