Henry VIII: King, Composer, & Bastion Of The Arts

Henry VIII: King, Composer, & Bastion Of The Arts

    Description
Henry VIII, King of England (1491-1547) excelled at languages, literature, theology, sport and, famously, music. Take a minute to get the scoop!

    Fun Fact
In 1515, May Day was celebrated at Greenwich with all kinds of music, including, according to this description, a mix of natural and ‘made’ music: ‘In the wood were bowers filled purposely with singing birds which carolled most sweetly, and in one of these bastions or bowers were some triumphal cars, on which were singers and musicians, who played on organ, lute and flutes for a good while, during a banquet which was served in this place.’

New Zealand: 'The World's Favorite Country'

Mark Everard is just who you would imagine a New Zealander to be: warm, fit, open, informative, hospitable, polite -- and extremely proud of his very special homeland. He is one of New Zealand's most sought after private guides, and on this episode we speak to him in Auckland, as he tours us through the North and South Islands of this stunning Pacific country.

We first discuss the joys of the North Island of New Zealand-- beaches, bays, Maori culture, Hobbiton, Rotorua's hot springs -- and cities including the largest in NZ: Auckland; and artsy Wellington, the capital.

Then we focus on the exceptional beauty of the mountains and fiords of the North Island, including Milford Sound.  Christchurch and Queenstown are the primary small cities of this island of vineyards, sheep farms, national parks and exceptional vistas, perfect for  outdoorsy tourists.

Lodging, foods best amount of time and best time to visit are talked about, of course. And Mark ends with a special memory.

Music and Spirituality? Dr. Martyn Percy, The Dean of Christ Church University of Oxford

Music and Spirituality? Dr. Martyn Percy, The Dean of Christ Church University of Oxford

In this episode, we had some recording challenges, which I hope is not too annoying.

This week we close out our series on The Many Styles of Christian Music with The Very Revd Professor Martyn Percy.  Having Dr. Percy on this episode is the perfect way to end the series.  Listen as he connects Jazz music in particular, with Spirituality and shares his experiences from a few churches from around the world.  Find out which Beach Boys song has religious overtones.  Be sure to stick around to the end to hear a sound bite about what we can do in this amazing life journey.

Episode 86 - What Shapes Your Desires? with Toby Kurth

Episode 86 - What Shapes Your Desires? with Toby Kurth

Today we are talking to Toby Kurth, lead pastor at Christ Church San Francisco. Toby has been a faithful voice inside the Faith Driven Movement, a friend, pastor and even Chaplain to our team. We’re excited that we finally got to have him on the show today—feels like this episode is long overdue.

We’re going to hear a bit of his story, and we’re also going to dive in with him on the 5 Marks of a Faith Driven Entrepreneur, which he was instrumental in shaping. If you haven’t read those yet, we suggest you check them out, but if you want to hear more about what they are and why they matter, this episode is for you.

Toby also forced us to ask a great question—what shapes your desires? Asking this is key to aligning our values and desires with the way God wants us to do business. And as Toby shared with us, when our desires match God’s desires, there’s no limit to what He might do through our work.

    Pentecost: Jared Alcantara

    Pentecost: Jared Alcantara
Rejoice on the fiftieth day from Easter as we commemorate Pentecost, the day when the gift of the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and others who were gathered in prayer over 2,000 years ago. So “Sing a new song, church!” Listen as Jared Alcantara tells us how the gift of Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary brought us a new identity…we can now pass through the veil between God and humanity. He tore the veil, the lion of the tribe of Judah has triumphed, and now everyone is welcome at the heavenly banquet that awaits us.
