Fishing for LOVE: Online Dating CHRISTIAN Perspectives | Modern Romance | YBT008 CWP049

Have you ever wondered why guys with fish in their profile photos are such a catch in the online dating scene? Join me as we cast our net into the deep and sometimes murky waters of digital romance. With Veronica and a colorful crew of panelists, including two Johns, Jeremy, Robert, and Joshua, we'll navigate through the art of profile crafting, the strange lure of those fish photos, and the quest for genuine human connections in an era where swiping right is the new courtship dance.

This isn't your typical heart-to-heart about love; it's a no-holds-barred conversation that fishes out the humor and absurdities in our modern quest for companionship. We're not just talking dating apps; we're taking a step back to reminisce about the days of community-focused matchmaking and how it compares to algorithmic encounters. In a world saturated with image-focused selections, we humorously toy with the idea of "Just Vespers," an app that's more about shared experiences than eternal promises. It's a session filled with laughs, a touch of nostalgia, and a candid look at how we present ourselves in the hopes of finding something real.

Wrapping up our rendezvous, we delve into the realm of dating intentions and how the digital profiles we craft are akin to placing an ad for a good ol' used car - you never know what you're going to get. Whether we're searching for life partners within specific cultural niches, like Orthodoxy, or just scrolling for a good time, this episode peels back the layers of what we're all truly seeking behind those screens. So tighten your seatbelt and tune in for a joy ride through the ups and downs of finding love, Orthodoxy style, in the digital age!

Day 356: God Is Love (2023)

Day 356: God Is Love (2023)
Today Fr. Mike reminds us that God created us out of love, for love. Fr. Mike also points out where the Catholic Church draws her doctrine on the difference between mortal and venial sin, as well as what St. Paul means when he teaches that there is only "one mediator" between God and man. Today's readings are 1 John 4-5, 1 Timothy 1-3, and Proverbs 30: 24-28. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. 1 Corinthians 5-8 | Grace, Accountability and Confronting Sin in the Church

1 Corinthians 5-8 | Grace, Accountability and Confronting Sin in the Church

Ready to confront the uncomfortable? This episode pulls no punches as we address a prickly subject - sin within the church. Drawing from the wisdom of 1 Corinthians 5-8, we boldly face the realities of sins like sexual immorality, disputes among believers, and questionable practices like eating food offered to idols. Join us as we discuss the imperative task of dealing with sin head-on, striking a balance between grace and accountability—a tightrope the Corinthian church struggled to walk. We grapple with the important distinctions between addressing sin in believers and non-believers, emphasizing the need for community accountability.

Now, let's talk about living a life that shines bright for God. Regardless of where we find ourselves, we can always live a life that glorifies God. Part two of this enlightening episode explores the essence of spiritual accountability within the church community, emphasizing the crucial role it plays in keeping our moral compasses aligned. We consider how to handle disputes among believers, and why it's vital to distance ourselves from those who willingly indulge in immoral behavior. Want to know how you can keep your 'temple' pure? We'll chat about why our bodies, as temples of the Holy Spirit, must be safeguarded against sexual immorality. Join us on this enlightening journey as we continue to understand God's plan and our part in it. We're excited for you to join us in the next episode!

In chapter 5, Paul addresses a case of severe immorality within the Corinthian church, emphasizing the need for discipline to maintain the community's purity. He urges them to remove the individual engaged in sexual sin to prevent its influence from spreading.

Chapter 6 advises against believers suing each other in secular courts and encourages resolving disputes internally. He stresses the importance of honoring God with one's body, avoiding sexual immorality, and emphasizing the unity between Christ and believers.

In chapter 7, Paul provides guidance on marriage, singleness, and divorce. He acknowledges the benefits of both marriage and celibacy, urging mutual respect and fulfillment of marital duties. He advises believers married to non-believers to maintain peace in their relationships.

Chapter 8 discusses the issue of food sacrificed to idols. He acknowledges the insignificance of idols but emphasizes considering weaker believers' consciences. He advises using knowledge and freedom in Christ while prioritizing love and avoiding causing stumbling blocks for others.

Romans 1:8-15 The Test of True Christian Love

Romans 1:8-15 The Test of True Christian Love
The Bible is clear—the evidence of our faith in Christ is seen in our love for others. 1 John 4:19-20 says, "If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen." In this episode of Real Christianity, pastor Dale Partridge preaches through Romans 1:8-15 where the Apostle continues his salutation to the Roman Christians. In this passage, it becomes evident that Paul both loves and longs to be with other Christians. Is this desire true of you? Do you love and long to be with God's people? In this sermon, Paul's example becomes a helpful measuring rod against our own affections for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let's look to Paul's words and see how we might find wisdom in strengthening our relationships with the brethren.

Kindness: "When The Streetlights Come On"

Kindness: "When The Streetlights Come On"

How difficult is it to show kindness to others...especially when we think they don't deserve it? Is there a higher calling for us in relationships with others when it comes to being kind to each other? What does Scripture have to say about this?

In this episode we discuss what kindness actually looks like from God's vantage point. Listen as we discuss some of Heath's childhood, the "deeds of the flesh," and even use the movie "Roadhouse" as a frame of reference. This one is definitely an episode you don't want to miss!
