Psalm of Asaph, psalm 77, an outcry to God if grief, anger, turmoil. God wants to hear from your heart even as the storm in your heart rages like the waves the open sea. Cry aloud to God, pour out your heart to Him and then allow God's Word to calm the storm in your heart with a meditation of psalm 77. 
I was greatly impacted by the reading of the Psalm of Asaph on the Chosen at the end of season 3. For several nights I have read Psalm 77 right before I go to sleep. The storm within has calmed to gentle waves.

Allow the reading of this psalm with ocean sounds and thunder to stir up the emotions in your soul and cry out to God. My hope is the you find peace and rest in the Selah.

Jesus often calls us to vigilance.  We know neither the time nor the hour of his second coming and the time of our own death is certain but unknown to us.  The best preparation for our judgment is found in discerning and doing the will of God.

Jesus stresses the importance of humility for being "great" and even "first" in the Kingdom of God.  Humility is hard to come by, however, because pride is not easily overcome.  The road to deep humility is a often a painful one, but there is also a shortcut called gratitude.  

How to Focus Your Mind on God Everyday. That's really difficult! Every time I try to focus on God and quiet my mind, my thoughts drift away. 

When you take a moment to quiet your mind and look to Him, don’t be upset when you drift, instead use Him as an anchor to pull you back to steady, clear waters. Rejoice in the moment and thank Him for wanting you closer no matter how the waves try to lure you out into the deep.

Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.

Today, let's focus in on God's Lovingkindness for us. I filmed all of these clips after a long hike to a Glacier in Homer Alaska. I was truly in awe of God's sculpture of ice carved into the great mountains around them. The water was formed by fallen snow and melted pieces of ice berg as they break away from the glacier.

The mystery of the Trinity is the mystery of God's inner life.  Revealing it to us in Jesus Christ, God shares with us his own deep intimacy so that we can know and love him.  The Trinity is also a mystery in which every Christian is enveloped.    By the work of the Holy Spirit, we are made children of God the Father in God the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lady is a perfect model of holiness and love.  Heading towards Pentecost, we can reflect on her relationship with her Divine Spouse, the Holy Spirit.  To have God's Spirit is to have Christ's own motivation, to be inspired by the same spirit that he was.  We see this in Mary, who says "Be it done unto me according to your word."  The Spirit is a renewer of the soul.  To have the Spirit as our spirit pays off in spades, namely, the beautiful fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Lent is a great opportunity for conversion.   Conversion is a deep change of mind and heart: to leave behind the wisdom of the world in order to have the mind of Christ.  The beatitudes are a call to conversion.  They contradict what the world considers as essential to a good life.  The first beatitude, "blessed are the poor in spirit" is particularly helpful for us in our often materialistic and consumerist culture.  Lent provides us with a season to practice detachment and to foster interior silence, making space for an encounter with God.

"I have called you my friends."  These words of Jesus teach us how we should speak to him in our prayer.  Close friends converse with each other confidently and intimately.  We should habitually share all of our thoughts, feelings, and concerns with our friend Jesus. He is interested in any and every thing that affects us.  In times of trouble, when it seems like he has left us, this continuous dialogue becomes even more important.  They are moments to be trustingly sincere and simple.  Eventually he will help us through even the greatest trials and tribulations.

Christ is the perfect model of patience. God wants us to be like Him, and the more we become Christ-like, the more we will have patience: patience with God, patience with others, and patience with ourselves.  As simple as it may sound, when you find yourself feeling impatient this week, ask yourself at that moment: “What would Jesus do?  How would Jesus respond?” and then act accordingly.

The martyrdom of the seven sons and their mother in the second book of Maccabees helps us to reflect on our own relationship with God.  All martyrs and saints detest sin so much that they would rather die than offend God in a serious way.  Their trust and hope in God's providence and in eternal life strengthens their resolve against sin.  God is worth living for and dying for.  This is exactly how God loves us.  On the Cross Jesus showed the "greatest love" when he "laid down his life for his friends."
