5 Stage of Grief for Nerds

5 Stage of Grief for Nerds

It has been hard times for nerds everywhere, and the Gents of the EstoBro TV Podcast have felt the major impact of what has given them the 5 Stages of Grief. To dismantle the denial of misogynist sports fans and gamers, they first address the major news that MLB The Show 24 has spotlighted their 'Road to the Show' game mode has now enabled women to be featured for the player's POV (1:50). With history always being written in baseball, the Gents hype the anticipation of the gender barrier being broken at some point in celebrating Women's Awareness Month. The stages of grief continue with EstoBro's anger at the latest Pokémon Presents (15:00), in which he is clearly showing his bias and age that the franchise is truly going in the direction he does not care for. In bargaining, the Gents debate the fact Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a more anticipated throwback experience in gaming compared to the latest installment of Final Fantasy XVI (27:00). The Gents set into depression with the announcement of the passing of Akira Toriyama (33:05), one of the most influential artists from Japan. Toriyama is best known as the creator of Dragon Ball and a developer of Chrono Trigger, two fantastic pieces of fiction that are still celebrated today. The world mourned his passing, and EstoBro and TV held their remembrance during this segment of the podcast. Finally, in acceptance, the Gents highlight the major wins of the 96th Academy Awards (47:25) with the biggest highlight for nerds being that Godzilla Minus 1 won the Oscar for Visual Effects. They also celebrate the wins of Oppenheimer, including Robert Downey Jr. finishing his redemption arc. Go through the stages of grief with the Gents on this emotional episode of the EstoBro TV Podcast.

    A Super Saiyan Legend

    A Super Saiyan Legend

We have truly lost a legend.  In memoriam of Akira Toriyama, the creator of one of the most innovative, legendary, and iconic mangas/anime, the gang discusses anime and the effect it has had on pop culture.  Rest In Power Toriyama Sensei, may we have just the slightest amount of influence that you had on the world in our lifetime.

    THANK YOU, TORIYAMA. (1955-2024)

    Akira Toriyama Tribute Special

    Akira Toriyama Tribute Special

It's a Fake Nerd Special - A Tribute to Akira Toriyama!

The incredible mangaka and character/model designer, Akira Toriyama, has sadly passed away. In light of this news, there was a desire to come together and share just how much the works of this incredible man meant to us. Fake Nerds Brandon T. McClure, Sparkz Witty, and Ben Magnet gather with their special guest, Phai Giron, to share when Toriyama's work changed their lives and what it's meant to them. There are stories of first encounters with Dragon Ball, expressions of gratitude for his contributions to ourselves, along with praise for the impact of all his creations on the global scale. Whether Dragon Ball, Chrono Trigger, Dr. Slump, or another work; Akira Toriyama has left a deep and unforgettable impact on all of us. This was a way for us to share in our love for his art and say a big thank you for everything he gave us.

"Tackle life with as much energy as Goku! I'll try to do the same!" - Akira Toriyama

114 - Incomparettable: Piano Covers with Kara Comparetto

Have you ever wanted an inside look at what it's like to write covers from classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, perform, and run a stream/YouTube channel? Then this episode is for you. It's another special interview episode here on Rhythm Encounter, and we're fortunate to be joined by talented pianist, streamer, and arranger Kara Comparetto! She joined us to discuss her work and performance-driven RPG music in general, from costume-making to learning the subtle differences in playing piano, pipe organ, and harpsichord (including recording yourself doing different parts of the same song to fit them together beautifully). And, of course, we have some of her tracks to listen to and discuss!

Featuring: Hilary Andreff, Patrick Gann, with special guest Kara Comparetto; Edited by Jono Logan

102 - Airships, Buses, and Cannons

Released in 2015, episode 27 of Rhythm Encounter was all about RPG transportation themes, like chocobos, airships, mechas, and boats. Because of the variety of creative vehicles and travel in our favorite genre — and because it's been nearly eight years — it's high time for another take on this topic. Hop in your spaceship, sentient boat, or tour bus, and join our four-person panel on this journey!

    101 - Recent RPG Music 101

    101 - Recent RPG Music 101

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Rhythm broadcast to bring you some exciting new music that is worth listening to with some urgency! While the transportation episode is making its journey here and the Xeno episode is leveling up to handle its high-level composers effectively, we decided to bring a selection of music that's come out over the past year, with an emphasis on more recent releases in the last few months. We're covering a wide range of game types/series, and more than one series may be making its Rhythm debut. I'll stop trying to make WRPG Radio happen, though...as important as public radio is and however tempting the semi-ironic station name is for a site that primarily covers JRPGs. Please enjoy!

43: Chrono Trigger (with Josh Covel - Still Loading)

43: Chrono Trigger (with Josh Covel - Still Loading)
What happens when you miss out on childhood nostalgia for a game that seemingly everybody seems to love? Should you try to approach that game with the mindset of a mid-90s gamer? Or should you take all of the advancements (and dis..advancements? I'll find a word) of its genre in the past 30 years? Chrono Trigger was that game for me, and I'm happy to have gotten Josh Covel from Still Loading on the show to talk about it. Webb Telescope captures Space's Deep Comic-Con

Webb Telescope captures Space's Deep Comic-Con

EstoBro and TV are taken away from the recent photos of the James Webb Space Telescope that had the talk of news outlets everywhere, although the timing could have been more coincidental with the sci-fi thriller film Nope (3:00) coming out recently. With EstoBro home alone for the week, he is taking advantage of maximizing his enjoyment by catching up on video games. With his recent acquisition of a modded Nintendo Super NES (12:00), EstoBro begins the journey of conquering the 'godfathers of RPGs' with Chrono Trigger. A historical video game with a major influence on other popular franchises, EstoBro holds trial with TV on why the main character, Crono, was left off the roster of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with DLC characters featured from Square Enix. The debate with character-roster-snubs transitions to the other universe-platform fighting game being introduced by Warner Bros: MultiVersus (31:45). The game had a major announcement with new characters featured as the Beta drops this week for gamers to download. The attention turns to the celebrated San Diego Comic Convention (42:15) which returned to having a full population at the massive nerd gathering for the first time since COVID-19 postponed the event on multiple occasions. The focus of the next phase in MCU, other comic book films, He-Man's 40th anniversary, and the anticipation for the new prequel series for Game of Thrones are what grabbed the Gents' attention in this year's panels. Closing out the focus of video games, EstoBro wants to know if TV will download the cat-simulator Stray (52:00) which was a highly anticipated game with a great number of downloads in the game's premiere week. EstoBro also gives props to TV for calling Juan Soto the winner of the Home Run Derby in the All-Star Game last week (59:30), as they both inquire their listeners if they would like to run it back for fantasy football. Finally, TV has an entry for IHMGW (67:05) when Hello Nurse takes him to the local gym in their neighborhood for a trap or a surprise? Tune in for a great show bundled up from the deepest parts of space and making sure that this podcast is broadcasting on every UFO across the universe!
