Michelle Janikian | Tripping Like An Adult

Michelle Janikian | Tripping Like An Adult

Drug Journalist Michelle Janikian and I have our vey first conversation! We discuss her new book "Your Psilocybin Mushroom Companion : An Informative Easy To Use Guide To Understanding Magic Mushrooms." ( Available Everywhere Now )

Topics Touched include psychedelic journalism, wreckless younger selves, cannabis, looking in the mirror on mushrooms, drugs vs medicine, antidepressants, the aftermath of Michael Pollan's How To Change Your Mind, living the dream , taking drugs like an adult, Michelle's experience at a Psilocybin Mushroom retreat in Mexico, overcoming imposter syndrome and more!

In the longest intro of the show's short history I tell the tale of my first Psilocybin experience which happened over 17 years ago!

Michelle Janikian is a journalist focused on drug policy,
trends, and education. Coming from the legal cannabis
industry where she’s helped to shift the plant’s image from
“destroyer of youth” to legitimate medicine and acceptable
pastime, her interests naturally led her to the healing powers
of psychedelics. She writes a column for Playboy about
psychedelics and cannabis, was a staff writer for the
cannabis publication Herb, and has also contributed to High
Times, Rolling Stone and Teen Vogue.

Michelle studied writing and psychology at Sarah Lawrence
College before traveling extensively in Latin America and
eventually settling down in southern Mexico.

AYAHUASCA ADVENTURE 4 | The Mysterium Tremendum with Colin Frangicetto

In this mind meld, Colin and I recount the climax and finale of our Ayahuasca adventure at Blue Morpho.

We pick up right where we left off-- Colin had just experienced the most punishing night of his life, while I did a psychic bungee jump into the depths of hell, but eventually rebounded into a transcendent trance that left me eager for more mind adventures.

What happens next? How does Colin pull out of his hell realm? How do we make sense of all of this madness and grace? You'll have to listen to find out.

AYAHUASCA ADVENTURE 3 | Demons don't go quietly with Colin Frangicetto

In this mind meld, Colin and I spin a proper, detailed yarn about our Ayahuasca adventure.

We get into all of it-- The travel, the people, what Blue Morpho (the retreat) is like, insane synchronicities, and, of course, our Ayahuasca experiences (which, really is a totally doomed attempt to describe the indescribable, but hey, we let it rip anyway).

We actually only get about halfway through the tale, so expect part two of the terrible, wonderful saga soon!

Hamilton, Colin and I recorded this mind meld at Blue Morpho's retreat in the Peruvian rainforest five days into our Ayahuasca adventure. Needless to say, our minds were a bit blown. Honestly, I'm still reassembling the pieces of mine.

While I'm figuring out how to English it, I hope you enjoy this especially sparkly mind meld.

Master shaman Hamilton Souther spent over a decade living in the rainforests of Peru studying the way of the shaman. He’s the founder of Blue Morpho Tours, an Ayahuasca-based Peruvian retreat.

Colin Frangicetto is an artist and musician best known for playing in the band Circa Survive.

1198: Intentionally Designing a Better Business with Tori Thomas and Laura Deleot Co-Founders and Co-Owners of Circa Design

Tori Thomas AND Laura Deleot built Circa Design on a set of principles: intentional design, focused processes, collaborative teamwork and creative curiosity. Within two years, they scaled to 90 clients with offices in two cities. They experienced growing pains, but they know how make good ideas grow. They are doing it themselves with Circa.

“know your audience, know yourself and be decisive in the decisions that you are making currently… What’s the worst thing that can happen…What is failing? The worst thing that could happen if we take that risk… Sometimes it helps I think to know if it’s a risk worth taking. Because if the worst thing could happen is something that we are not really willing to let happen then maybe it’s not. But most of the time it’s like the worst thing that could happen is you fail, we have to shut something down and then we go back to doing it the way were doing before, which helps me assess if it’s worth it. And I feel like most times I like oh worst thing that can happen is really kind of fine. It’s a good reality check and puts things into perspective”…[Listen for More]

    8. John Slobod (Circa Guitars)
For our eighth episode, I talk to luthier John Slobod. John shares his thoughts on why vintage guitars sound the way they do, and how he honors them in his own Martin-inspired instruments. We also go through John's journey from working with Dana Bourgeois and later with Julius Borges before starting his own Circa guitars. In this interview, John also offers some valuable advice to new luthiers.

    HB4D 94 - Arrival, RTJ3, New Year's Resolutions
It’s good to be back! Now that the holidays have ended, and we strive to work off all the extra weight that they brought with them, we sit down to discuss what we’ve been watching, playing, and listening to over the last month.  Clemson is the new king of college football, so we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about it at least a little bit.  We also talk some NFL and the Antonio Brown controversy.  We recap our new years resolutions and what we’re trying to do this year after both of us had a successful run at keeping up with them in 2016.  We briefly discuss Arrival, but as to not spoil anything, we switch gears and talk 10 Cloverfield Lane.  We have a few concerts that we are both attending this weekend with Circa Survive and Run the Jewels, so we wax poetic about RTJ3 and just how we excited we are leading up to the show.  Home Before Dark hearkens back to a time when you and your friends in the neighborhood were forced inside. Where you discovered a level of brotherhood/sisterhood that could only be forged through playing video games, watching movies, television and discussing the finer things in life over an Orange Lavaburst Hi-C and Bagel Bites. We take the time out to talk about the current games we're playing, movies we've seen recently(new or old) and all the things in between.   It’s almost that time.  The streetlights just came on and you had better leave soon to be Home Before Dark.  Find the whole gang on twitter @timherb and @the_ARC1TECT and collectively @HomeB4Dark
