    The Power of Selfless Leadership

    The Power of Selfless Leadership
When you think of good leadership, what comes to mind?

Rasmus Hougaard and Jacqueline Carter argue that good leadership isn’t rooted in power or public speaking skills. They say that, in fact, mindfulness, selflessness, and compassion are the key components.

“If [you are] focused on things that are going to feed [your] ego, [you’re] not necessarily going to be doing the things that will be most helpful to other people,” Carter explains. “[And] what the research and our field work really showed us is that in the long term, people don’t want to follow you.”

In this episode, you’ll learn how to cultivate selflessness as a leader without being a pushover. You’ll also learn a simple ritual that could help you start you day with more focus and a clearer sense of your priorities.

Carter and Hougaard are the coauthors of The Mind of the Leader: How to Lead Yourself, Your People, and Your Organization for Extraordinary Results.

Key episode topics include: leadership, managing people, managing employees, managing yourself, psychology, self-awareness, mediation, mindfulness, compassion, selflessness.

The Most Meaningful Things Are Built in Positivity

The Most Meaningful Things Are Built in Positivity

Today's episode is a great live interview I had recently where we discussed my new book Twelve and a Half and how the brand of business is "broken" today. People think leading with hard elbows in the way to build empires but I couldn't think that's further from the truth. The most meaningful things are built through kindness, empathy, accountability... not fear tactics.

Enjoy! Let me know what you thought.

Do You Have to be Ruthless to be Successful? [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

Do You Have to be Ruthless to be Successful? [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

A lot of people perceive successful people and entrepreneurs to be ruthless and a question Rob gets asked a lot is do you have to be ruthless to win in business and in life? Rob believes that no, you do not and explores this in this short but impactful episode.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Rob is naturally a people pleaser and avoids conflict, a lot of people are like this but unfortunately this doesn’t allow you to win in business. Some sense of ruthlessness had to be learnt by Rob to be successful.
    • Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions and choices in business which may look ruthless but are actually decisions you have had to make and in some cases actually help others.
    • Do things that challenge you and make you feel uncomfortable. The only way you truly grow is through challenging yourself.

    BEST MOMENTS

“Fear based leadership is something of the 1980s, it’s a relic of the past”

“If you do avoid conflict you do lose in business”

“I think you’ve got to be kind, caring and compassionate, you’ve gotta have a  long term vision”
