    Episode 5: The Revolution Arrives

    Episode 5: The Revolution Arrives

We’ve made it to 1994. In September, House Republicans gather on the steps of the Capitol and sign the Contract with America. It’s a carefully-worded list of bills they promise to bring to a vote as soon as they win the majority. Election night arrives, and the Republican sweep is decisive. Democrats are completely thrown by the size of the loss — and start searching for answers. And in January 1995, Newt Gingrich’s biggest moment finally arrives: The Democrats hand over the gavel, and he becomes Speaker of the House.

Can anything change the election results?

Can anything change the election results?
Short answer: No. Long answer: Listen to the episode. POLITICO’s Zach Montellaro breaks down the convoluted Electoral College process between now and December 14th, when the results become official, and why there’s virtually nothing that could change the fact that Joe Biden is the President-Elect. Plus, Biden is set to meet with Pelosi and Schumer in Delaware. And the Trump administration moves to ease oil drilling rules in the Arctic. Zach Montellaro is a campaign reporter for POLITICO. Jeremy Siegel is a host for POLITICO Dispatch. Irene Noguchi is the executive producer of POLITICO audio. Jenny Ament is the senior producer of POLITICO audio. Why the heck isn't the transition official yet?

Why the heck isn't the transition official yet?
Joe Biden won the election more than a week ago. But the General Services Administration — the agency that certifies presidential transitions — is still blocking Biden's transition team from accessing government resources. POLITICO's Alex Thompson breaks down why the GSA is holding things up and whether it could affect the Covid response. Plus, the White House orders the Pentagon to begin planning troop withdrawals in Afghanistan and Iraq. And several governors put in place stricter coronavirus measures. These Georgia runoffs are gonna be bonkers

These Georgia runoffs are gonna be bonkers
It’s the election that keeps on giving! After indecisive results last week, two Georgia races that will decide the fate of the Senate are headed to runoffs in January. POLITICO’s Elena Schneider breaks down how both parties plan to win — and how Trump’s refusal to concede could shape the campaigns. Plus, world leaders acknowledge the results of the election even as Trump doesn’t. And Biden promises that Americans won't lose health coverage during the pandemic. Recount: To Be or Not To Be - That is the Question

Recount: To Be or Not To Be - That is the Question
Although Dr. Carole thought she would not have to talk about the election anymore, since Trump won and Hillary conceded, it turns out that more headlines need to be analyzed on Dr. Carole's Couch. People, led by failed Green Party presidential candidate, Jill Stein, and the Clinton campaign, who are either in denial or are sore losers, or both - are calling for a recount in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Apparently, though Hillary made gracious concession speeches, she has been plotting since the day after the election to wrest the presidency from Trump. Today's guest, Matt Fitzgibbons, the founder and publisher of PatriotMusic.com and contributor to DailySurge.com, has been following these shenanigans closely and gives us his take on what's happening behind the scenes of the recount. Will a recount change anything? It is extremely doubtful. But, this hasn't stopped Trump's enemies from trying to overthrow him with a coup.
