Episode 144: Dr. Maggie Abraham of The GYN Space - Orlando, FL

Episode 144: Dr. Maggie Abraham of The GYN Space - Orlando, FL

Meet Dr. Maggie Abraham, a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist holding the prestigious American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) specialty certification in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland.

Her journey continued with a rigorous obstetrics and gynecology residency at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences University in Buffalo, New York, followed by a specialized fellowship in pediatric adolescent gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Abraham's commitment to advancing her knowledge led her to obtain a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from the University of Louisville.

Dr. Abraham is an active member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She has contributed significantly to these organizations, serving on various committees, including the ACOG Adolescent Health Committee, for over a decade.

Originally from Ireland, Dr. Abraham relocated to the United States in her early twenties, following her American boyfriend, a decision she considers the best she's ever made. After training in four different states, she and her husband settled in Orlando, Florida, along with their four children and beloved dog, Odin.

Her passion for pediatric and adolescent gynecology blossomed during her tenure as a young attending at the University of Florida. Dr. Abraham witnessed countless teenagers and college students seeking help for gynecological issues that had long been overlooked. This experience shed light on the unfortunate lack of awareness surrounding gynecological conditions in adolescents, leaving them suffering without proper diagnosis or treatment.

Driven by a desire to make a difference, Dr. Abraham dedicated her practice to addressing the unique gynecological needs of young people. Before establishing the GYN space, she enjoyed a fulfilling clinical practice for over 12 years.

Dr. Maggie Abraham is here to provide expert care and support for pediatric and adolescent gynecological concerns, ensuring a brighter and healthier future for young individuals.

Episode 140: Dr. Phil Hellman of Paradox Health DPC - Rochester Hills, MI

Episode 140: Dr. Phil Hellman of Paradox Health DPC - Rochester Hills, MI

Episode 140: Dr. Phil Hellman of Paradox Health DPC - Rochester Hills, MI

Dr. Philip Hellman is a family medicine physician in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He had no family in medicine, but for him, the path to becoming a physician made the most sense. He went on to Grand Valley State for his bachelor’s and then followed with the MSU College of Human Medicine to attain his MD. He did his residency in Greeley, Colorado at North Colorado Family Medicine. His training there was excellent and is owed in large part to an exceptional group of mentors and faculty on staff there.

With his wife, Dr. Hellman relocated to Silverton, Oregon for his first job out of residency in the Summer of 2016. Although they cherished their time there, they made the tough decision a year later to move back to their family in Michigan where they felt they were being called. That year and a half of work in the healthcare industrial complex opened his eyes even further to the deficiencies of modern healthcare. Its clunky, bloated, and mis-incentivized structure was not something that excited him. He always felt terrible when a patient would get a large medical bill despite paying large insurance premiums or was told the most effective therapy for their malady was not an option.

In March of 2018, he decided to form Paradox Health and start taking part in the DPC model of health care. It is something he thought about since his first year of medical school, and ultimately what he had always wanted to do. It just took the right prodding, and the right people to tell him he wasn’t crazy.

He currently resides in Rochester with his wife Chelsea and their four children: Merritt, Luella, Hattie, and Hannon.

Episode 139: Dr. Michael Lovelace of Derby City DPC - Louisville, Kentucky

Episode 139: Dr. Michael Lovelace of Derby City DPC - Louisville, Kentucky

Dr. Michael Lovelace grew up in a small town in upstate New York along the Hudson River, and ended up trading his snow shovel for sunshine after high school. He headed to Loyola University in New Orleans for his undergraduate degree in Finance, and then later on to Arizona State University in Phoenix for his MBA.

He has worked as a Financial Analyst for a Fortune 500 company, Project Manager for a non-profit institute, and ran a family business (plant nursery) with 45 employees.

While working at a cancer research institute he made the decision to change careers and go back to school to become a physician.  After graduating from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, he completed his training in Family Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina.

He chose the specialty of Family Medicine because of the wide spectrum of illnesses that he can treat. As Family Medicine physicians they are trained to treat newborns, pediatrics, women's health, adult chronic disease, and geriatrics.

During his training, he studied different practice models and chose to open a Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice because he believe that it provide the best opportunity to truly connect with patients.  As a former business owner, he understands that providing quality customer service requires time.  Another huge positive of being a DPC practice is that he can save patients money on medications and labs.

When he's away from the office, he enjoys playing golf, running, and gardening. He also loves spending time with his wife, Rebecca, their two young children, John Michael and Aly Claire, and their rescue dog, Roux.

Episode 134: Dr. Tami Singh of Aspire Health - Plantation, FL

Episode 134: Dr. Tami Singh of Aspire Health - Plantation, FL

Dr. Tami Singh is board-certified in both Family Medicine and Functional Medicine. She attended Ross University & received her Doctor of Medicine and undergraduate degrees from the University of South Florida. After training, she joined a multi-specialty practice in 2010, Clark and Daughtrey, a physician-owned group.

Her patient panel grew to over 4,000 patients in 7 years. She and her staff always strived for a patient’s experience in the office to be a pleasant one. However, the physician-owned practice soon merged with a large hospital, and the family feel of the office was lost. Many of the personal touches disappeared and patients felt like a number. This convinced her to seek alternative options to better care for her patients. The obstacles her patients encountered, along with her drive why she became a physician motivated her to open Aspire Health.

The DPC membership at Aspire Health allows her to devote quality time to her patients and their families, getting to know them on a more in-depth level. The close relationship she develops and the time she spends with patients are personally important to her. This is the foundation of exceptional health care. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at the Miami Rescue Clinic, teaching, traveling, working out, yoga, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

    In this episode...
Dr. Tami Singh highlights the uniqueness of DPC, the support it offers within its community, and the empowerment it gives to physicians to practice medicine on their own terms and with a focus on patient care.
