    🎤🎧🎥🎬

Conclusion : L'expert de Luis Llosa avec Sharon Stone et James Woods.

Episode 76: New Combinations: Copland Dance Episodes

Episode 76: New Combinations: Copland Dance Episodes

A fresh season of City Ballet The Podcast kicks off with New Combinations host and Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan in conversation with Repertory Director Craig Hall, Company Pianist Craig Baldwin, and Principal Dancer Chun Wai Chan. Each is intimately involved in the development of Justin Peck’s Copland Dance Episodes, NYCB’s first non-narrative, evening-length work since Balanchine’s 1967 piece Jewels. As Baldwin, Chan, and Hall relate, the experience of taking part in this momentous creation is one rich with the beauty and distinctly American qualities of Copland’s music, and the sense of unfettered humanity and community in Peck’s choreographic process. Cop Land (1997)/ Knob Creek 18yr
This week Matt and I discuss the 1997 James Mangold film, "Cop Land". Starring Sylvester Stallone in one of his most underrated roles. We begin our discussion with a pour of the new Knob Creek 18 yr. This was a limited release in honor of the 30 year anniversary of Knob Creek. It's well worth trying if you can find it. Cheers!

    American Fanfare

    American Fanfare

Meet the 22-23 Akron Symphony Orchestra Season Opener—American Fanfare— with host Ken Heinlein and Music Director Christopher Wilkins.

Six Americans compose portraits of our nation and our people. Copland’s brass and percussion fanfare salutes civilians serving our country through simple daily acts. Gershwin’s jazz-age portrayal of an American visitor to Paris revels in musical tone painting. Shakamaxon is the historic Indian village—bordering on present-day Philadelphia—where Chief Tamanend signed the 1682 treaty between William Penn and the Lenape Indians. Jerod Tate’s spirited dance for strings pays respectful and playful homage to the Lenape people.

American Rage: Rethinking Copland with Pianist Conrad Tao, Mar. 5, 2020

American Rage: Rethinking Copland with Pianist Conrad Tao, Mar. 5, 2020

Conrad Tao is the pianist, composer and new music champion who appears in two concerts presented by the Seattle Symphony this week. He spoke with KING FM Creative Director, Dacia Clay.  Conrad talks about his recital in Octave 9 on March 6 and his appearance at the SSO Celebrate Asia concert this weekend.  And he introduces us to a lesser known side of Aaron Copland.  Copland's outspoken activism as a gay man in early 20th Century America is often overshadowed by the composer's iconic and bucolic ballet music.

BONUS: See the Music Live: Rodeo

BONUS: See the Music Live: Rodeo

In this special bonus episode of See the Music recorded live in the David H. Koch Theater, Resident Conductor Daniel Capps briefly surveys the history and unique musical qualities of Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, which provides the score for Justin Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes. Capps and the NYCB Orchestra demonstrate how Copland uses familiar folk songs and rhythmic invention to convey a distinct Americanness, achieving for the piece a place in the “very fabric of American identity.” (13:13)

Copland's Grohg and other strange things...

Copland's Grohg and other strange things...

Aaron Copland did as much as anyone in establishing American concert music on the world stage, and his ballet scores proved to be among his most important and influential works. Grohg is the most ambitious example of his Parisian years, a precociously brilliant one-act ballet scored for full orchestra, inspired by the silent film expressionist film Nosferatu. The first example of Copland’s new ‘Americanized’ music of the 1930s was Billy the Kid, based on the life of the 19th-century outlaw and heard here in its full version. This was the first fully fledged American ballet in style and content: brassy, syncopated, filmic and richly folk-flavored. Host Raymond Bisha introduces this release in the latest episode of Naxos Classical Spotlight.
