Ep. 101: WWE Evolution and The Big Show w/ Jamie Loftus

Ep. 101: WWE Evolution and The Big Show w/ Jamie Loftus

This week, Hal, Danielle and Mike are joined by Jamie Loftus! She's a comedian and the creator and star of Irrational Fears on Comedy Central.

She joins the Nation of Conversation to discuss our favorite news from the week in wrestling including the announcement of WWE Evolution, the first ever all-women PPV that the company has ever put on. But even though we're excited about this show and hope that it's as good as it could be, this is yet another example of WWE patting themselves on the back for removing barriers that they established.

And Roman Reigns is officially the number one contender for Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship. What hope is there that it will be better received than the WrestleMania match? And is this guaranteed to end with a Money in the Bank cash-in to send the Brooklyn crowd home happy?

All of this, plus why Smackdown was a very strong show this week and we'll heap praise upon Impact Wrestling for their recent influx in talent and last weekend's Slammiversary PPV.

    Ring Tones

He's been known as The Giant, The World's Largest Athlete, Paul Wight and The Big Show. He's had a 20+ year career that's included being a grand slam champion and Jamie Loftus's favorite wrestler! She'll talk all about her fandom for him as the team takes a journey through his entrance music over the years.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford, Mike Eagle and Jamie Loftus.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 100: Keep Hulkamania on a Leash

Ep. 100: Keep Hulkamania on a Leash

When Danielle is away, the heels will play!

Mike and Danielle have the booth all to themselves this week and they have plenty of things they need to talk about. That includes, perhaps most significantly, the return of Hulk Hogan to the WWE Hall of Fame. Wrestlers like the New Day, Titus O'Neil and Mark Henry have voiced their opinion about and Mike is happy to speak his truth Then, Now and Forever.

Plus, the two will break down Extreme Rules and all of the subsequent fallout from the event. That includes the audience in Pittsburgh that decided that instead of paying attention to Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler's Iron Man match, they were going to countdown the end of every minute, Royal Rumble style. Thus, Hal has no choice but to take them to task.

    The Three Count

Mike wants to The New Day's response to Hulk Hogan returning.

Hal wants to put over the recent episode of Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard about Muhammad Hassan.

Hosted by Hal Lublin and Mike Eagle.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 99: WWE x New Japan w/ BJ Mendelson

Ep. 99: WWE x New Japan w/ BJ Mendelson

This week BJ Mendelson joins the Nation of Conversation! He’s an author and comic book writer and he's got tons of thoughts on everything that happened in wrestling this week, from the pull-apart brawl between Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley to the continued reunion between Daniel Bryan and Kane as Team Hell No.

Plus, a closer look at the next phase of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa’s feud in NXT, who BJ thinks may be better than Paul Heyman on the mic and Danielle explains to the team what the Aztec Medallions of Lucha Underground are.

    The Main Event

A few weeks ago, WWE promoted a special encounter between the New Day and New Japan’s The Elite. Sure it was a Street Fighter V competition at E3, but afterwards, Triple H said that the company is open to a cross-promotional show with New Japan. But how likely is such a meeting to REALLY happen? And what would we like to see go down at this hypothetical event?

    The Three Count

BJ put over Fantasy Super Cosplay Wrestling.

Danielle put over Episode 8 of Season 2 of GLOW.

Mike put over Robbie E’s podcast Why it Ended.

Hal put over the recent segment on Smackdown that featured Rusev on commentary.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle RadfordMike Eagle and BJ Mendelson.

Ep. 96: The NXT TakeOver Chicago II and Money in the Bank Special

Ep. 96: The NXT TakeOver Chicago II and Money in the Bank Special

What a week of wrestling it’s been!

And not just because of WWE; we’re still basking in the afterglow of New Japan Dominion and Kenny Omega finally capturing the IWGP World Heavyweight. But Kenny’s big month wasn’t done there; he traveled to Los Angeles with the Young Bucks to take on the New Day in Street Fighter at E3! And our own Mike Eagle was there live to watch the whole thing happen. He’ll tell us all about and explain what he did with the Pancake he caught from Xavier Woods at the event.

    NXT TakeOver: Chicago II

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano’s feud of the year continues, Aleister Black and the NXT Title once again are left out of the main event spot, Undisputed Era had a really fun bout with One Lorcan and Danny Burch, and Shayna Baszler gave Nikki Cross the collapse into unconsciousness that she longed for.

We’re running down everything… including Velveteen Dream’s gear choice in his match against Ricochet.

    Money In The Bank

In the last week, we’ve crowned new champions in Alexa Bliss and Dolph Ziggler and have a new Monster in the Bank in Braun Strowman.

Which stars are in the best position to be successful as we enter the second half of the year? Is Shinsuke Nakamura worse off for not having captured the WWE Championship? And what do we think of the sudden and unceremonious firing of Big Cass?

Hosted by Danielle Radford, Mike Eagle and LindseyKelk.

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Adam Pranica officially joins the Nation of Conversation!

He’s the host of other amazing shows on the Maximum Fun Network, Like The Greatest Generation and Friendly Fire, but he also used to be a HUGE wrestling fan. It all started when he learned that his grandfather could very easily be mistaken for Ric Flair and blossomed from there.

Even though he’s lapsed as a fan over the years, he’s still got great memories of being huge fan when wrestling was at its zenith in pop culture; think back to the Nitro and Thunder days. Now, he’s ready to rekindle his fandom with Mike, Hal and Danielle!

    The Beat Down

In this brand new segment, the panel takes a special look at each story beat of a significant wrestling saga and explains what made it so special.

For this first installment, in honor of his big win against Tetsuya Naito at Dominion, the team will examine Chris Jericho’s 2008 rivalry against Shawn Michaels. It led to tons of great matches, a brand new version of the Jericho character and was so great that Y2J has since called it the best story of his career.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford ,Mike Eagle and Adam Pranica

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Plus, the team will discuss tons of things from WWE, including Baron Corbin’s new job as the constable of RAW, Becky Lynch scoring the tap-out victory against Charlotte and the biggest cliches that both main shows revisited this week.

Ep. 26: From Rumble, with love

Ep. 26: From Rumble, with love

The Royal Rumble is when the road to Wrestlemania really starts to heat up.

And it also happens to be Hal’s favorite pay per view.

The Nation of Conversation will reminisce about some of their favorite Rumble winners and moments throughout the years. And they’ll decide if the fact that so few of them have had success at Wrestlemania is hurting the idea of the show.

Plus, from the AJ Styles and John Cena for the World title to Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal title, we explain which feuds are on the right track for this weekend. And why was there only 1 women’s match on WWE TV this week? All this and a lot more on this week’s show.

Hosted by Hal LublinDanielle Radford and Mike Eagle.
