Get to the chopper! The day Huddo took to the skies
Imagine flying in to play a game of footy in a helicopter? Well, Peter Hudson did just that, in the one and only match he played in the 1973 season, the Hawks came calling and the big forward delivered with eight goals, whilst not enough to secure the win and a push into the finals, the tall Tasmanian created some memories of a unique means of getting to a match.

To merge or not to merge? That is the question
If you mention the merger match to anyone who lived through the 90's, they will remember the scenes of that turbulent time for both Hawthorn and Melbourne Football Clubs. The Hawks defeated the Dees in what was known as the Merger Match and both clubs went on to survive on their own. Andy Collins joins the Golden Years crew for a chat about the game that was almost the end for Melbourne and the second last for the Hawks.

Waverley's swan song - End of an era

Waverley's swan song - End of an era
Construction was completed on the Waverley Park ground in 1970 and it played home to the Hawks for the last years of its operational life as an AFL stadium. The match between the Hawks and Swans in Round 22 of 1999 was the last match played on the turf and Daniel Harford remembers the day fondly. The Hawks recorded a big win over the Swans and having kicked three goals himself, Harf joins the Golden Years team to reflect on the Hawks dominance at the ground and it's final swan song.
