    067 - Kate Boytek

    067 - Kate Boytek

Kate Boytek is many things; she's a mother, a daughter, a granddaughter, a singer, a songwriter, and a storyteller born and bred deep in the rolling hills and hollers of southern West Virginia. The emerging country music artist’s heartfelt lyrics and melodies, warm and genuine personality, and soulful vocal performances have captivated audiences nationwide.

Kate recently landed a CMT premiere and regional radio airplay for her single "Anywhere" (a gentle, uplifting anthem of empowerment co-written alongside the Dove and Grammy-nominated songwriter Kim McLean). She has recorded with top producers, including Jason Wyatt (Kid Rock, The Lost Trailers) and Britton Cameron (Lonestar, Sister Hazel, Don Williams), and performs regularly at writers' rounds in Nashville.

Boytek has solidified her reputation the old-fashioned way as a must-see live performer the old-fashioned way-hitting the road with the commanding stage presence of a young Stevie Nicks and strong vocal delivery often compared to Trisha Yearwood and Wynonna Judd.

In the past year, Kate played her first sold-out theater show as the headliner, several casino headlining dates, and over a dozen main stage fair and festival slots, including Down N' Dirty Fest, The Summer Shindig, Live On The Levee, River Road Music Festival and the Sternwheel Regatta, the biggest annual event in her home state of West Virginia, before a crowd estimated at over 30,000 fans.

Kate has shared stages with countless other road warriors, hitmakers, and legends, including Jo Dee Messina, Chase Wright, Drew Parker, Joe Nichols, Easton Corbin, LOCASH, Ronnie McDowell, Eric Paslay, Zach Top, and many others.

Kate’s impact also extends beyond live performance. Kate proudly serves as an official ambassador for the City of Charleston, WV, in conjunction with their Convention and Visitors Bureau. She spoke at Healing Appalachia before Jason Isbell about the region's struggle with opioid addiction, visited schools to encourage music education, and performed for AmeriCorps staffers and volunteers to thank them for their service.

This year will bring new music and video releases, more mother-daughter time, more unforgettable performances, more miles on the road, and more fans that become friends. Kate Boytek is gladly putting in all the work and doing all the things every day to be what most of us aspire to: someone who radiates authenticity, sincerity, and grace and leaves an indelible mark on every life Kate and her music touch.

Why 'Rich Men North of Richmond' is Striking a Chord with Middle America (Special Podcast Highlight)

Why 'Rich Men North of Richmond' is Striking a Chord with Middle America (Special Podcast Highlight)

Have you heard the song 'Rich Men North of Richmond' from Oliver Anthony? This month he became an overnight sensation, having come out with the number one song in the country! He even beat out Taylor Swift's music on the Billboard chart!

What's the song about? It's a working man's cry for recognition, calling out the DC establishment who don't appear to care about the 99%. It's an anthem that hits a nerve in Middle America. Cale Clarke explains that Oliver Anthony was once an agnostic who struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse but has now found God. He even read from the Bible at one of his recent concerts!

However, there are critics who claim that the track has the wrong message for Christians. Some also take issue with the indecent language in the song. What do you think?

Hear Cale's rundown on what's driving this song to 2023 fame.

    Sylvia, Singer/Songwriter: I've Always Had My Voice (S2 E23)

    Sylvia, Singer/Songwriter: I've Always Had My Voice (S2 E23)

Today's guest is Sylvia. If you were anywhere near the radio, and especially country radio in the 80's, you have heard at least one of her million+ selling hits including Tumbleweed,  The Matador, and Snapshot. Her hits, The Drifter and Nobody hit No.1 in Billboard's country music category.  She sold millions of copies and certainly made good on her goal to be a star and gathering some prestigious country music awards including a Grammy nomination after leaving her home town of Kokomo, Indiana for Nashville.

After her run with RCA Records between 1979 and 1987, she explored other interests but never strayed far from using her voice.  She became a certified life and career coach, working with executives and artists of all genres, she's sat on multiple not-for-profit boards supporting people with mental illness and substance use disorders, and has stepped more into writing and releasing albums, including Nature Child, A Dreamer's Journey. which will be released on Tuesday, 2.2.2022.  The day after this episode is published.  You'll a sneak peak of music from the album in this episode.

We have a great time talking with Sylvia about her journey, including details about her songwriting process, the lessons learned while being part of the music machine in the 80's, how she looks to inspire a different population of listeners  and life in general.  In essence, we do a lot of exploring Sylvia's string grabbing and kite flying.
