    And your bug can sing

    And your bug can sing

The underwater sounds in this creek near Brisbane are like an eclectic jam session.  There are sweet beetles (that sing), lonely bugs (on percussion), fishy grunters (think Jay-Z) and a punk-rocking rakali that just trashes the joint. This musical soundscape is the PhD homeland of eco-acoustician Emilia Decker.

E188: Line Creek Brewing Co. celebrates Year One

E188: Line Creek Brewing Co. celebrates Year One
Load up the golf cart and bring your friends to Line Creek Brewing Co.

Line Creek Brewing Co. was the first brewery to open in Peachtree City, GA.  Their small community has a bit slower pace than Atlanta, and golf carts are a common mode of transportation.  You're likely to see a few in the parking lot if you visit the brewery.  PTC'ers have welcomed Line Creek with open arms in their first year.  Their spacious taproom offers plenty of seating as well as TVs for watching the game and a large window to watch the magic happening in the brewhouse.

We sat down with Paul Costick (Co-founder), Jason Carroll (Head Brewer), and Alex Knoll (Asst. Brewer and Lead Cellarman) at their anniversary party recently to find out how things went in their first year, what they've learned, and what's in store for the future.  They give us the scoop on the three variations of their anniversary stouts, we talk (more) about kveik, Jason's background brewing in Ireland, and adding seaweed to beers.  Plus, Paul gives us the scoop a collaboration Line Creek Brewing made for the Southern Conservation Trust, #ConserveGeorgia.  Proceeds from this Pecan Amber Ale will help protect lands across the state.

NEXT WEEK: Tune in for our conversation with Sean Lawson of Lawson's Finest Liquids.

    The Beer List

E109: ACAT with Line Creek, Split Batch, Banyan Roots

E109: ACAT with Line Creek, Split Batch, Banyan Roots

When you think of cask ales, you may think of warm, flat beer.

That's not the case, and Owen Ogletree wants you to know about it.

For the past 14 years, he's hosted the Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting. Breweries from around the south (and the world) send in their special beers they've made specifically to go on cask.

For this show, we talk to some breweries in planning, including:

    • Line Creek Brewing (Peachtree City)
    • Split Batch Brewery (Duluth area)
    • Banyan Roots (Atlanta Westside)

Truck and Tap Beers of the Week:

    • Cask ales, of course!

Coming up next week, we're talking to another new brewery. Pontoon Brewing just opened its doors in Sandy Springs, so we'll talk to the crew. Have a great week, and don't forget to DRINK LOCAL.

    Cheers!

Condor Takes a Dip in a Grand Canyon Creek
WATER is the lifeblood of Grand Canyon, a force of erosion, a sustainer of scarce riparian habitat in a desert environment, a spiritual element for native peoples, a provider of recreation, and a central factor in the exploration, development, and politics of the American West. This video was recorded on April 17, 2011 at Pipe Creek, which is along the Tonto Trail and east of Indian Garden. The condor in the video is #87, a male, hatched in captivity on 4/22/1998.
