Thank You For The Music: The Swedish Supergroup ABBA

Thank You For The Music: The Swedish Supergroup ABBA
Factory Theater living legend Amy Seeley joins Len and Beave and they are NOT messing around! The subject is ABBA, and should you choose to listen, get ready for hilarity and more importantly KNOWLEDGE. They go through Abba's hits, and discuss what makes their music so timeless and universal. They favorably compare ABBA to the Beatles, which sends them on an outstanding tangent on the seminal Peter Jackson documentary "Get Back". They discuss ABBA's rightful place in the 70s music canon, and conclude the podcast with an in-depth look back at "ABBArama", Amy's monster hit show that both saluted ABBA and ruled the Factory (and Chicago) in the mid-90s. Hit "Listen", and then settle in because you will be thoroughly entertained for the next 90 minutes!

Na czym polega fenomen zespołu ABBA? Rozmowa z dyrektor Muzeum Abby w Sztokholmie

    ABBA – Voulez-Vous

    ABBA – Voulez-Vous

After a winning streak of iconique guests, Andy and Drew sit down this episode with nothing but a bottle of bubbles and one of the world's biggest pop acts... ever.

If you've been to a wedding, experienced a road trip or watched a film starring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski, you've probably heard an ABBA song. If you've enjoyed a £2.50 triple gin and tonic at Thompson's on Canal Street in Manchester, you definitely have.

If so, you'll know it's fabulous, you'll know it's joy, but have you acknowledged the slightly unsettling melancholy you feel behind the camp ecstasy?

Sitting in the Venn diagram centre betwixt the Beatles, Robyn and Steps, ABBA practically invented the concept of a sad banger,  and Voulez-Vous catches them at the tail end of their imperial phase, smashing out bangers which can be very much sad. Join us as we dive in.

A huge thank you to Anthony Garvin, who helped out so much with this episode and engineered our vocals for it at Forbes Street Studios in Sydney, part of Universal Music Australia.

Oh – and, voulez vous a sensational listening experience? Then head over to Spotify to check out our playlist which is, quite frankly, ABBAmania.

    Muriel's Wedding #28

    Muriel's Wedding #28

Chris and Pam discuss the next movie from 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. This week's randomly selected movie is Muriel's Wedding. This 1994 Australian movie might seem frivolous on the surface, but it is a movie very layered in emotions and lessons. Muriel is from the small (fictional) town of Porpoise Spit and must learn some valuable lessons about what it means to value yourself. Spoilers are discussed, so watch the movie first if those things matter to you!
