    Episode 29: 1986 - Platoon

On this episode of 'Revisiting the Oscars' we're headed back almost 40 years to talk all things 1986 as we dissect the 5 movies nominated for 'Best Picture' that year!

Crocodile Dundee, Diego Maradona, Catchphrase and Top Gun were just some of the things making headlines in 1986, but what was happening at the Oscars....

We've got an interesting bunch to discuss this year that includes Robert De Niro playing a Spanish slave trader cum missionary in the oddity that is 'The Mission', a Woody Allen ensemble comedy in 'Hannah and her Sisters', ANOTHER Merchant Ivory period romance ('A Room with a View'), a romantic drama set at a school for the deaf ('Children of a Lesser God') and Oliver Stone's Vietnam War drama 'Platoon'.

All this and the usual nonsense and fun facts - who knew there was a Vatican Film List?!

Cape Fear

Cape Fear

The Irishman: Before Cinema Reviews | Ep. #10

The 2019 calendar year proved to be a pretty incredible year for film. Of the movies the guys sat down to watch, the one that resonated the most with them, enough to dedicate an entire review to, was "The Irishman" (which would go on to become Luke's favorite film of the year). From the acting to the thematic elements that made the film unique among Scorsese's legendary backdrop, Before Cinema had a lot to say about the movie, so join in as they break Scorsese's latest film!

This episode was recorded in 2019, closer to when the film was initially released on Netflix. It's being released from the vault now to fill in the Thanksgiving week episode. Some traits of the show will be slightly different compared to how things are now due to this fact. With that being said, enjoy! (SPOILER FILLED REVIEW AHEAD)
