Ep 87. Gentle Strength of Umbrella Pine

Ep 87. Gentle Strength of Umbrella Pine

In this episode, we chat about Umbrella Pine, a living fossil dating back to when dinosaurs walked our world. The same is true of Ginkgo biloba, which we spoke about in episode 85.

There's a lesson in their endurance: The gentle outlasts the strong, referring to the wisdom of the Tao Te Ching, an ancient philosophy to live our true peaceful nature in the rhythm of nature.

Dia de los Muertos and how we grieve

Dia de los Muertos and how we grieve

More people in the U.S. have discovered Día de los Muertos. Unlike Halloween, it's celebrated over several days and lifts up the spirits of the dead instead of fearing them. Michelle Saenz, licensed professional clinician associate and mental health clinician in the TTUHSC School of Medicine is the guest for this episode. She explains how Día de los Muertos is celebrated, how different cultures and religions grieve and how to talk to your child about death.

Spaces that feed your Soul. With Dara Segbefia (Replay)

Spaces that feed your Soul. With Dara Segbefia (Replay)

    Recorded March 6, 2021

    Guest notes:

Dara Segbefia, Interior Decorator (but we call her a House Whisperer)

    Questions/Topics:

How did you get started in the decorating?

What's the difference Interior Design and Interior Decorating?

What's the process for engaging with you?

How do you take a client from a magazine clipping  to a reality in their real space?

How do you deal with difficult clients? Have you ever had to fire a client?

Tell us about the pretty rocks (crystals) in many of your reveal pictures.

What if I don't have a big budget? If I only have $500 can you still help me?

    How is cost determined?

    Guest Quotes:

I ask a lot of personal questions [of the clients] because every room has energy in it. I ask, "How do you want to feel in this space"?

I ask questions to dig into who you really are then I find the core pieces that an speak your love language.

Every time I put a crystal in someone's home, they love the feeling. It's my way of reminding them that there is peace within their home.

I love to put at least one DYI item within every client's home to give it that personal touch. I'm really big on it. That's what I believe really set me apart from other interior decorators.

Patience has to be one of the main things with getting your space together. You don't want to rush buying furniture and then not be completely invested in it by the end. That's a common mistake. Don't rush!

When I bought my current house I hired an interior decorator to help me.... It was the best money I'd spent. When I tell you I never ever regretted any of the money I spent on my decorator at all... I didn't.
