Weeds to Seeds with Kelly Thompson

Weeds to Seeds with Kelly Thompson

On this episode of Step Up Your Home I have Kelly Thompson here to chat about how we can all create our own organic home grown gardens. Kelly is an incredible Melbourne based illustrator with a keen interest in living a sustainable lifestyle. She has transformed the backyard of her rental home from a giant patch of unsightly grass to a humble organic garden with only a few easy steps. She has inspired many to create their own backyard gardens and when she can't grow what she needs, she simply makes a visit to her local farmers market. Kelly is constantly striving to do better to lessen her impact on our environment and is an advocate for vintage wares. She also runs Makers Market, which is where she has created an online store for local makers, freelancers and craftspeople who share the same passion for high quality and sustainably produced items that are made with care. But as I said, today we are going to be chatting with Kelly about how you can grow your own food.

Spaces that feed your Soul. With Dara Segbefia

Spaces that feed your Soul. With Dara Segbefia

    Recorded March 6, 2021

    Guest notes:

Dara Segbefia, Interior Decorator (but we call her a House Whisperer)

    Questions/Topics:

How did you get started in the decorating?

What's the difference Interior Design and Interior Decorating?

What's the process for engaging with you?

How do you take a client from a magazine clipping  to a reality in their real space?

How do you deal with difficult clients? Have you ever had to fire a client?

Tell us about the pretty rocks (crystals) in many of your reveal pictures.

What if I don't have a big budget? If I only have $500 can you still help me?

    How is cost determined?

    Guest Quotes:

I ask a lot of personal questions [of the clients] because every room has energy in it. I ask, "How do you want to feel in this space"?

I ask questions to dig into who you really are then I find the core pieces that an speak your love language.

Every time I put a crystal in someone's home, they love the feeling. It's my way of reminding them that there is peace within their home.

I love to put at least one DYI item within every client's home to give it that personal touch. I'm really big on it. That's what I believe really set me apart from other interior decorators.

Patience has to be one of the main things with getting your space together. You don't want to rush buying furniture and then not be completely invested in it by the end. That's a common mistake. Don't rush!

When I bought my current house I hired an interior decorator to help me.... It was the best money I'd spent. When I tell you I never ever regretted any of the money I spent on my decorator at all... I didn't.

The Grateful Home with Justine Flynn

The Grateful Home with Justine Flynn

On today’s episode of Step Up Your Home we are speaking to Justine Flynn who is one of the Founders of the Thankyou brand. In 2008 Justine, together with Jarrod and her now husband, Daniel, had an idea. Selling water to help end the world water crisis. Three individuals had a vision to empower the everyday Australian to change the world by funding clean water projects in third world countries, through the simple process of purchasing a bottle of water. The team worked tirelessly, pushed boundaries and harnessed the power of social media in a way that landed their products in stores across Australia, thanks to the voices of their followers pledging to buy Thankyou products if they were stocked. Since then, Thankyou has grown into one of Australia’s largest social enterprises that has raised millions of dollars, is stocked in hundreds of stores across Australia and NZ and is seen in most family homes. They now have a range of 55 products which allows each and every one of us to make a major change through a simple choice in our local supermarket.

On todays episode we talk about persistence and fear, why we should all be choosing Thank you, practicing gratitude in the home, what home is to Justine, and SO much more.

An original podcast by a husband and wife team of self professed pop-culture geeks. It is a discussion about all things entertainment from movies and music to television and pop culture. We examine some of the more obscure aspects of the entertainment industry.
