    Psalm Chapter 111

    Psalm Chapter 111
    Are you worshiping God based upon his instructions for worshiping him? See, worship is not a natural thing to do. It is supernatural, and one who is living in a natural state, not having been reconciled to God, one who does not have the Holy Spirit in him or in her that one cannot worship God? James 2:14-26

    James 2:14-26

    In this episode, James discusses faith and works.  What does he mean by "faith without works is dead?"  Well, he doesn't mean that a person doesn't have any faith but that their faith is unprofitable.  James also says that we are justified by our works.  How does that reconcile with what Paul says about being justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone?

    We Recognize, We Remember, We Reach Out - Psalm 66 (Summer of Psalms)

    We Recognize, We Remember, We Reach Out - Psalm 66 (Summer of Psalms)

    Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
        sing the glory of His name;
         give to Him glorious praise!
    Say to God, “How awesome are Your deeds!
         So great is Your power that Your enemies come cringing to You. Psalm 66:1-3

    In Psalm 66, there are several themes we can isolate and pull out and apply to our daily lives in Christ.  Two of those themes are just recognizing Who He is and remembering what He has done.  A third theme is to take all that we know about Him and reach out to a lost and dying world around us.  These 3 R's:  recognizing, remembering, and reaching are the basis for this week's episode and help to shape our understanding of this very worshipful, praise-inspiring passage.

    Revelation 2 - God sees all

    Revelation 2 - God sees all

    I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Revelation 3:1
    I know your deeds. Revelation 3:8
    I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. Revelation 3:15

    So often, I think the sin I'm committing is unseen by anyone. The thought or action may be hidden from others, but the one person it isn't hidden from is Jesus. As He says in this chapter, "I know your deeds."

    As I walk on this journey, I want Him to know my deeds and to be pleased by them. I don't want to have to hide them from Him. Often, my actions are just the reverse of what they should be: I try to hide sins from others and God and show everyone when I do something good.

    Join me in reading Revelation 2 and be encouraged that God loves us and knows us.

    Imam Khalid Latif is a University Chaplain for New York University, and Executive Director of the Islamic Center at NYU (ICNYU). Under his leadership, ICNYU became the first ever established Muslim student center at an institution of higher education in the United States. Imam Latif’s exceptional dedication and ability to cross interfaith and cultural lines on a daily basis brought him recognition throughout New York City, so much so that in 2007, Mayor Michael Bloomberg nominated Imam Latif to become the youngest chaplain in history of the New York City Police Department at the age of 24.

    Most recently, Imam Latif was selected as one of 60 New York City leaders to serve on Mayor Bill de Blasio’s transition team, helping to recommend and select individuals for key roles in the current NYC administration and was also appointed to a “Task Force to Combat Hate” by NYC Public Advocate Letitia James to deal with the rise in Islamophobic, antisemitic, and anti-Sikh sentiment in NYC.
