Episode 286: Starship Troopers and Helldivers II | Freedom Review | Normies Like Us Podcast
Starship Troopers (1997)- based on the book by Robert Heinlen from 1959, follows Juan Johnny Rico in a futuristic fascistic society on Earth as they go to war with the Pseudo-Arachnids aka bugs. Notable for being the first work of science fiction to use “power armors” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarshipTroopers(film)?wprov=sfti1 The film, directed by Paul Verhooven (Robocop) acts as a propaganda piece following the rise of a soldier and his roughnecks. Cast: Casper VanDien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Clancy Brown, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Ironside Wrap Up: Future for these franchises? Final Thoughts Plugs Clips: About This Episode: Helldivers 2/Starship Troopers: Episode 286- Together for Liberty. Together for managed Democracy. Together for Normies Like Us! On a very special episode, that certainly isn’t propaganda, we bring the glory of Democracy to the podcast as we hunt for Bugs and Oil. Happy Love Day! That's right folks we are celebrating love day with a horror movie and with my absolute pleasure, we are joined by my beautiful wife! We pressed play on this love story and learned the grave life lessons of how to get maggots in chocolates, why having a bucket of water is always handy and what wax does to genitals. So cozy up to that special person/thing, and enjoy the valentines week with a new episode of FROM DUSK TILL DON!

He Sees You When You're Sleeping...?

Tina and Gina struggle with some sound quality issues and had to do a full redo episode, they discuss Tina's recent travels, Gina's Elf on the Shelf journey and their views on gentle parenting, why they think it's creepy that sitting on Santa's lap is a thing, they reminisce about Joan Rivers and her "Scarlett or Streetwalker" segment, and debate whether or not Denise Richards looks beat. Bear with the sound quality while we work through it...

Welcome to the party, pals! (pause) PAUL'S PRETTY PUNCTUAL PARTY! Where we pay our respects to another Paul, Dir: Paul Verhoeven, and his 1997 sci-fi/satire/war film "Starship Troopers." (Based on the novel by Robert Heinlein) Starring: Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Neil Patrick Harris, and Michael Ironside. Can a propaganda film, be wrapped in a propaganda film, and then wrapped in a delicious tortilla of satire? If not, well, they sure as hell tried. We discuss - the odds, military ranking based on acting ability, the beauty of the grey (embrace the “groutfit”), and of course HARDCORE NUDITY.

WTF - You Should Write That Down

WTF - You Should Write That Down
There’s both good news and… better(?) news this morning, depending on your view. The USWNT did not advance at the Women’s World Cup for the first time in a long time. On the other hand, Kim Jong Un scored an impressive 100% electoral victory in his campaign for Dear Leader. You should write that down. The great Plastic Straw ban may or may not have been successful, once again, depending on your point of view and what you actually think that it was trying to accomplish. You should also write that down. The Chinese biolab making COVID in Reedly, CA turns out to have scored a really great tax incentive deal from the State of California. Now wonder they didn’t wan that written down! And in the world of pop culture, Denise Richards has the Rabbi and the Good Friar considering taking up yoga. All that and more on a busy episode of What the Frock?

149: Are we on 'Cops' again? | Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)

in the 90s you could always count on a dark comedy. It's the best decade for these out of control stories with the most offensive humor. While society has changed light years it seems in about 20 years, there are still these 'time capsule' films that are so wild you can't even believe they were made. I questioned this very point when I watched Drop Dead Gorgeous about the literal explosive dark world of a local beauty pageant in Minnesota.

This was my first time watching and Charles hit this one again right on the head. I loved it. We talked about the stellar stacked cast,  how we love a mockumentary format, and basically worship at the altar of Kirsten Dunst.

off-topic rants include: Charles' wild boarding school weekends, a wildlife minute, The Simpsons, and Shazam

Episode 28 - Drop Dead Gorgeous

Episode 28 - Drop Dead Gorgeous

On this week's belated episode, The Strangers discuss Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, overacting, and dive into the competitive Beauty Pageant scene in Michael Patrick Jann's 1999 cult classic "Drop Dead Gorgeous", starring Kirsten Dunst, Allison Janney, Ellen Barkin, Kristie Alley, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams and Denise Richards.

"Drop Dead Gorgeous" is unfortunately not currently available to stream anywhere but DVD and Bluray copies are fairly easy to find online.

An annual beauty pageant in small-town Minnesota turns ridiculously competitive and ultimately chaotic in this biting comedy.

Episode 407: Heart of "Glass Onion"

Episode 407: Heart of "Glass Onion"

Daniel Craig is out here digging through another mystery. Much like "Knives Out," "Glass Onion" is  modern Christie-style ensemble whodunit that hits it out of the park. The cast does really well with the material, and that's probably because the material is really good. We had a lot of fun postulating our way through this one and we think you will too. We pair it with The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc which we enjoyed so much that we finished it half way through the movie.

    Metacritic Score: 81/100

Movie Sync Notes: We watched "Glass Onion" on Netflix. We start "Glass Onion" 10:55 into the pod, and push play part two 1:25:49 into the pod.

YNFA 037: Love Actually, or Do They Know It’s Curtis?

YNFA 037: Love Actually, or Do They Know It’s Curtis?

Lock up your daughters (especially if Colin Firth is moping around with some loose papers), and keep an eye on that randy PM, as we immerse ourselves in the Christmas overindulgence that is Richard Curtis’s Love Actually. Can we please stop calling totally normally proportioned Martine McCutcheon chubby? Did Mark, aka the Cue Card Guy, deserve the hate he got for his visual proclamation? And are the porn couple the only healthy relationship in this whole film? Or is it Bill Nighy’s aging rockstar and his manager? We’re too busy tearing up over the actual people welcoming each other home at Heathrow to come up with any answers.
