    "Detained" Deep Dive.

In the wake of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Executive Order 9066 was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, authorizing the deportation and incarceration of Japanese Americans. Nearly 120,00 people on the West Coast were forced into internment camps further inland under suspicion of spying for the enemy. At least 62% of those incarcerated were United States citizens. These actions were found much later to be based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership" (Civil Liberties Act of 1988) and, decades later, are the focus of many films, documentaries as well as TV shows including Star Trek: Enterprise.

In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Patrick Devlin and Brandi Jackola take a deep dive into the first season episode "Detained". They discuss racism, a Quantum reunion, exploding walls, and why it's wrong to incarcerate an entire species because of the actions of a few.

North Korea: “I Simply Trusted the Lord”

North Korea: “I Simply Trusted the Lord”

The last two weeks on VOM Radio we’ve heard from John Short, the Australian Christian detained in North Korea in 2014 after leaving gospel tracts outside a Buddhist temple. This week we hear another side of the story, from John’s wife, Karen, who was at home in Hong Kong dealing with the media, praying for her husband and receiving encouragement from all over the world.

    Listen in as Karen shares:

    • How God ministered to her during John’s detention
    • How she and John stayed connected through Scripture—even though they couldn’t communicate at all during his detention
    • How journalists and others responded to Karen’s calm assurance and faith in God
    • How she found out her husband would be coming home
    • The one thing she wishes she’d done differently—it will surprise you!

The story of Karen’s faithfulness will inspire you to trust more deeply in God and dive deeper into His Word, even if you’re not planning a trip to North Korea.

If you missed our conversation with John, you can listen here: Part 1 and Part 2.

    DMTAM 24: Prison?
This can best be described as one man's account of the court system and the department of corrections in Pennsylvania. "Dodge" joins us again to keep us posted on where he stands on certain counts against him and his past experiences. Gives you a little checklist of the first things you are bound to encounter as a new inmate. Thanks to Johnny Cash for the music. Thanks to BJ for the intro. Detained but not defeated - Audio

Detained but not defeated - Audio
We live in a day when “religion” is more prevalent than it has ever been. There are approximately 20 known religions in the world. Christians make up roughly 2.5 billion people. In the Christian movement alone, there are 34,000 denominations. Religion and denominations do not scare Satan. Hell focus on those who are passionate and who are determined to live for God regardless of the effort required doing so. Satan does not want us to go to heaven. Satan does not want us to service Jesus. When we declare that we will serve God, Satan will not step aside and let us do it. The enemy will do anything he can to impede any progress in living for God. He will try to bind us in anyway he can. One of our texts tells of Paul and Silas being bound in physical chains and detained in prison. The other text describes a man that was not bound by chains. In fact, chains could not hold him. He was possessed by sprits that kept him bound. Regardless of what we may face or how we may be detained, but we are not defeated. Jesus purchased victory for us all! It all starts with a desire: The desire for deliverance; the desire for a break through; the desire for victory. Paul and Silas may have well questioned if they would make it, but they worshiped God anyway. Their circumstances were dire, but they did not allow this to get in the way of their worship. We sometimes rely on our feelings to move us into worship, but the reality is that when we feel least like it, is when we need to worship the most. The man with the legion of demons in him did not allow that to interfere with his worship of Jesus. If we are going to have a breakthrough, we have to be sick of being where we are. It is time for someone to take authority over what has ruled them for so long. We may be detained, but we are not defeated.
