Pucker Up! The Politics & Pleasure Of Red Lipstick

Red lipstick has been worn for thousands of years across many different genders and cultures, interpreted as a sign of power, feminism, sexuality and pride.

But why do we place so much emphasis on this particular beauty product? And why do some of us either love or loathe wearing it?

To find out how a lipstick became such a powerful statement about who we are as individuals and a society, and how to find your perfect shade, The Quicky speaks to a stylist, a beauty guru, and and expert in identity to unlock the secrets and power of a red lip.

Behind the curtain of the fashion world with Kate Betts

Behind the curtain of the fashion world with Kate Betts

In this episode, our hosts talk to American fashion journalist Kate Betts who has been covering the world of style for 25 years, first as a reporter in the Paris bureau of Women’s Wear Daily and later as an editor at Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Time magazine. Together they discuss the world of fashion today and the future of the industry.

    Episode Highlights:

18:39 - To survive fashion brands must learn to stand for something. It will not be enough to create a great dress or suit, they really need to be engaged in the world and not only in their atelier.

27:23 - I loved writing my book on Michelle Obama‘s fashion. She liked fashion but did not want to be controlled by it. She dressed to be the first hostess of America and she did a great job that way.

35:10 - For the inauguration I hope the First Lady will wear something white or blue. Those are the colors that represent hope, a new beginning.

Joey Sturgis of Foundation Recording Studio

Joey Sturgis of Foundation Recording Studio

Award winning metal producer Joey Sturgis talks about coffee. Yeah he opens with coffee! Joey discusses his humble beginnings and tracking down The Devil Wears Prada for his early gigs. His discography includes pretty much everybody who's put out a metal album since 2008. There is some inspiring stuff in here. Joey gives a lot of perspective about what he believes the future of the music business will entail, which includes Apple Music and signing youtube artists. But in the end, Joey Sturgis is just a waiter.

Stephen and Trav open up with a funny story about Trav embarrassing himself at work due to this podcast. It is "last call" on the upcoming Timothy Henderson Warlord comp. We introduce a new band called "The Wolf And The Epitaph" from Canada. So much metal up in this. Peace.
