Krys Marshall on 'Eternal Sunshine...' and Weird Women

Krys Marshall on 'Eternal Sunshine...' and Weird Women

When Krys Marshall (FOR ALL MANKIND's Danielle Poole) told us she felt seen by Clementine from ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, Annie from ANNIE HALL, and Selma from DANCER IN THE DARK, we couldn’t wait to get together and hear the full story. Krys and Jordan talk about how these free spirited (and sometimes misunderstood) women speak to Krys as an actor and as a person.

In one quick thing, Jordan’s seen THE NORTHMAN and can’t wait to tell you the phrase she left the theater chanting.

    The Godfather

    The Godfather
Oscar Month reaches its thrilling conclusion with an episode you can't refuse as Late to the Movies talks The Godfather (1972). Ben and Robbie celebrate the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's classic "family" film, starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, John Cazale, and many others.

Never Seen It Podcast - Episode 34: The Godfather

Never Seen It Podcast - Episode 34: The Godfather

The famiglia gathers at the request of our resident Italian, to pay homage to the quintessential Italian-American crime drama. Yes, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Francis Ford Coppola directed adaptation of Mario Puzo's 1969 crime novel - The Godfather. The Godfather tells the story of the Corleone family, one of the five major New York Italian mafia families over the course of a decade, from 1945 to 1955, as they navigate the world of organized crime. This film is stacked with a powerhouse cast, featuring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Diane Keaton, and Robert Duvall.

The Godfather is jam-packed with Italian music, language, food, and culture, intermixed with scenes of graphic violence that plagued these criminal families over the decades. While much of the story development centers around this life of violent crime, the one theme ever-present throughout the film, is that of family. So, fire up a pot of marinara while you dip your bread into this installment of the Never Seen It Podcast.

    The Godfather Part II

    The Godfather Part II
What better way to follow up last episode's discussion of the greatest film of all time than by subsequently tackling the greatest sequel of all time? The Godfather Part II's successes are myriad but its sheer force of will to act as both a prequel and a sequel to its hallowed predecessor with such taste and confidence make it one of the most unlikely triumphs in the history of cinema. Tune in as we talk through the ways in which the film's arc acts as a rendition if not muted rebuke of the original that forges a genuinely metatextual statement on the very premise of sequels generally, unpack the various historical contexts the film jumps between in exhaustively dramatizing the first half of America in the 20th century, and shriek with joy at each and every scene involving Michael Gazzo. Something's Gotta Give

    Something's Gotta Give
It's Romcom Month! All month long, Late to the Movies will be talking about romantic comedies, and we're kicking it off with Something's Gotta Give (2003), written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Ben, Cory, and Robbie talk about the performances by Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, and Keanu Reeves, the pitfalls of being an elderly bachelor, and the many ways this movie breaks from the romcom formula.

    The Godfather

    The Godfather
This week's episode, an offer we simply couldn't refuse, has us celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of quite literally the greatest film to ever grace the collective medium of cinema: The Godfather. We do our best to explore the endless number of facets that elevated Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 masterwork as the natural evolution of the gangster genre (one of America's purest artforms), situate its status within the New Hollywood canon, place each and every brilliant performance in their context of coexistence with one another, and weigh its various historical and political contexts to uncover what exactly about it continues to capture the attention of all who interact with it- past, present, and future. Above all else, this is just a podcast of two movie lovers giggling with joy talking about the work that made them fall in love with motion pictures in a deep and fundamental way. We hope it's but a fraction of a delight to listen to as it was for us to produce. Feel free to skip to 2:36:40 for the beginning of our audio commentary. #16: Holiday Hidden Gems | "The Family Stone" (2005) + What Not To Do When Meeting The Family

In this weeks episode, we dive into one of my favorite Holiday hidden gems, that is getting more traction in recent years, "The Family Stone," directed by Thomas Bezucha and starring ensemble stacked cast Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Craig T. Nelson, and more. This movie has some of the best cringe comedy out there, and by watching Meredith Morton, I have been able to compile a thorough list of Not-To-Do's when meeting the family.

I also talk about the COVID crisis happening in NYC right now, what I have been watching lately - specifically diving into The Morning Show season 2 - and some Christmas week recommendations picked out by my Dad! Enjoy & stay safe! To skip directly to when I begin talking about the movie, start at about 20 minutes in!

    S01E13 - Marvin's Room (1996)

Welcome to Season 1 of Snubs & Dubs! This season we are covering the 69th Academy Awards, featuring the films of 1996.

On Episode 13, we're talking about Jerry Zaks' Marvin's Room. Bessie (Diane Keaton) and Lee (Meryl Streep) are sisters who have remained apart for nearly 20 years due to radically different personalities and life paths. Bessie remained in Florida to care for their ill, bed-ridden father (Hume Cronyn), and Lee moved to Ohio to marry and have a family. But Bessie's doctor (Robert De Niro) has informed her she has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Bessie's prognosis and Lee's troubled son (Leonardo DiCaprio) create an unexpected family reunion.

Quick Fix: Belinda Carlisle – Heaven is a Place on Earth

Quick Fix: Belinda Carlisle – Heaven is a Place on Earth

Heaven is, in fact, a Quick Fix on Earth, as well as four minutes of utter pop excellence performed by iconic ally Belinda Carlise. Join us for an exploration of this A grade masterpiece, including but not limited to, topics such as why this song is so bloody good, why this song is particularly gay, and why “San Junipero” is the greatest episode of Black Mirror ever.

If you’ve made it this far into the bio, and you’re gay and/or a millenial, then you’ll likely know precisely what we’re talking about, but if not – do yourself a favour, do Charlie Brooker a favour, do Belinda bloody Carlisle a favour and watch said episode on Netflix before sliding into our take on the eighties electro neon symphony of euphoric boppery.

Actually, you know what, listen to the song right before you listen to any Quick Fix. That way you’ll be riding that iconic queer song wave with us. Follow us on Facebook, like us on Instagram, and email us on email.
