    Canadian legendary musician and singer/songwriter, Andy Kim, who is known for co-writing the massive number one hit for the Archies, “Sugar, Sugar” in 1969 and “Rock Me Gently” that soared to number one on the billboard pop charts back in the fall of 1974, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in Calgary on October 27th along with the late Bobby Curtola, Cowboy Junkies and Chilliwack.

    Andy has sold over 30 million records and recently performed and co-wrote songs with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies and Ron Sexsmith.

    He is gearing up for his 15th Annual Andy Kim Christmas Show scheduled December 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at Exhibition Place in Toronto. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.ca. This fundraiser has been gathering friends and fans together to celebrate the spirit and generosity of the musical community in Toronto with proceeds going to CAMH.

    Bobby will be inducted (posthumously) into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame on October 27th at the Calgary’s Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre along side of Cowboy Junkies, Andy Kim and Chilliwack.

    Bobby was such a great man and so positive. During our conversation he mentioned how "dreams do come true and you are never too old". He is truly missed!

    We are sure he would be humbled and thrilled with his latest induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

    Our very own local singer/songwriter, Rebecca Rain was a top eight finalist at the 2019 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase along with celebrating her 30th birthday. She recently performed at the Blue Mountain Village “Guitar Trail” where hike and music come together.
    You can catch Rebecca Rain at the Second Annual Hootenanny on Saturday, October 12th scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Wasaga Beach RecPlex. She is scheduled to be part of the lineup for “The Big River Country Festival” in 2020.

    The 9th Annual Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues welcomed award winning Canadian bluesman, Steve Strongman. Steve rocked the Main Stage 2 on Saturday night.
    In 2019 he captured “Best Guitarist” for The Solo Duo Category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee as well as a 2018 JUNO Award Nomination for Blues Album of the Year for “No Time Like Now”.
    Recently he launched his 7th album in June titled “Tired of Talkin’” and performed a guitar duet with Randy Bachman on the Bachman Turner Overdrive Classic “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”.
    Unfortunately due to Steve Strongman’s busy schedule Dianna wasn’t able to meet him for a face-to-face interview at the blues fest. Having said that, I thought I would share a repeat Beach Corner interview back in 2013 where he performed at the Collingwood Historic Gayety Theatre.

    Bonds of Mara marked their last show by headlining at the 7th Annual Georgian Triangle Music Festival at the Wasaga Beach RecPlex on August 24th.
    This super group consists of current and former members of some notable multi-platinum selling acts led by ex-I Mother Earth singer, Brian Byrne; Sal Costa, guitar/back-up vocal; Dave Benedict, bass and Daryl Ralph, drums.
    Together they create the best of both-world by merging experience with fresh enthusiasm and raw urgency, a new force to be reckoned with.
    As for the meaning of the name, Mara, the demon who tempted the Buddha, is associated with death, rebirth, and desire. Broadly speaking, Mara is anti-enlightenment, working to keep seekers from pushing forward. To break the “bonds of Mara” requires focus and determination.

    The 6th Annual Small Halls Festival is from October 3rd to October 6th, a four-day multi-venue event showcasing Clearview Township’s nine community halls.
    Since 2017 the event has been designated a Top 100 Festivals by FEO (Festival and Events Ontario), a distinction and commitment of those who make the festivals and events industry in Ontario such a success.
    Founded in 2014, the Small Halls Festival was created to celebrate the legacy of the “small hall” while showcasing their uniqueness and commemorating their rural way of life throughout the township.
    This year’s lineup will include: Ken Yates, Good Enough Live Karaoke, Jamie Williams as the one-man band, Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre, Monkey Toast Improv, an OktoberFEAST, the Back Roads Rally, a Local Cider & Food Paring to name a few.

    The 25th Annual Collingwood Elvis Festival celebrated a milestone from July 26th to July 28th with this year’s theme “Homecoming” recognizing and reminiscing with fans, friends and family that makes Collingwood and Elvis so very unique and special.
    This marked the last year the town of Collingwood was hosting the event as the festival returns to its roots in 2020 managed by a private events host scheduled from July 24th to July 26th.
    This is a two-part series and in this first segment, Dianna gets up close and personal with Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists and Grand Champions such as 2019 Collingwood Elvis Festival, Sylvain Leduc from Valleyfield, Quebec; 2016 Collingwood Grand Champion, Oliver Steinoff from Steinbach, Germany; 2006/2008 Collingwood Grand Champion, Pete Paquette from Milton, Ontario; 2014 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist, Jay Dupuis from Baton Rouge, Louisianna; 2013 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist, Dean Z from Branson, Missouri and the first ever Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist proclaimed by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Shawn Klush from Pittston, Pennsylvania.

    Get ready for the return of Wasaga Under Siege the War of 1812 with this year’s theme “Ships and Sails” on Saturday, August 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. held at Nancy Island Historic Site.     This year the event is only one day due to the tall ships and re-enactments occurring in Penetanguishene the previous weekend.
    Originally created fifteen-years ago by event founder and organizer Dave Brunelle, Wasaga Under Siege is now under the guidance of Friends of Nancy Island and Wasaga Beach Park.
    With its nautical theme of “Ships and Sails” you can anticipate model ship exhibition from Toronto, naval and voyageur re-enactors and of course cannon and musket demonstrations. Admission is $2 per person and free for children 12 and under.

    A rock and roll music fundraiser featuring the “Noisy River Band” with proceeds going to the RVH in Barrie is scheduled for Saturday, July 27that the Avening Community Hall located at 3401 County Road 42 in Creemore. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. followed by live entertainment at 8:00 p.m.
    Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at Sweet Escapes in Angus, Fornettos in Stayner, Barcelos in Wasaga Beach, RVH in Barrie, via the Noisy River Band Facebook message, at the door or by calling Martin at 647-296-3374.
    The newly formed local five-piece band is highlighted by Terri-Lynn Burgess, vocals; John Russell, bass guitar; Martin Sasek, guitar; Shaun Hughson, guitar/keyboard and Mark “Nature Boy” Wilkinson on drums.
    The name “Noisy River Band” reflects the local roots of its members with music genre of classic rock mixed with soft rock and dance tunes. The group anticipates working on an album in the near future in the meantime the focus is promoting the band via local events.

    At only 18-years-old, she has captured two Josie Music Awards and two International Singer Songwriter Association Awards nominations and if this wasn’t enough she will be performing at the inaugural Roxodus Music Festival on Wednesday, July 10th at Edenvale Aerodrome in Clearview Township.

    She is the recipient of the 2018 Josie Music Award for Young Adult Female Artist of the Year. The JMA is the largest independent award show globally held in Dollywood, Tennessee.

    She plans to record an EP and a music video for her latest single “Exhale” in the near future with the grant she received from Factor.

    Sandcastle Theatre is auditioning for “Sleeping Beauty – The Panto – Game of Thorns” on Thursday, June 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Collingwood Library located at 55 Saint Marie Street for ages eight to adult.

    This fall production will be based on the Sleeping Beauty story with the additional twist of Game of Thrones.

    Joining me in the studio is actor, director and stage manager, Laura LaChapelle. This will mark the third Panto for Laura as she previously directed Potter the Panto and Narnia the Panto for Sandcastle Theatre spearheaded by artistic director and instructor, Stephanie Fowler.

    George is a retired newspaperman and believes the downslide in turnout of eligible voters, in elections at various levels of government, equates with the death of democracy. According to George, the tide has to be turned on voter apathy and he asserts that many Canadians take too much for granted, including the many freedoms we all enjoy.
    George has been writing for more than four decades and has published other books such as “George’s Georgian Bay Revisited”, “The Collingwood Shipyards” to name a few. In 1993, Collingwood Town Council awarded George “the Order of Collingwood”.

    Clearview Township has a lot to celebrate this year with their 25th Anniversary of being an amalgamated community with “Clearview Days” scheduled Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st at the GNE Fairgounds. In commemoration, you can anticipate a yearlong celebration branded with the 25th anniversary theme for all their community and special events.
    On January 1st, 1994 the Town of Stayner, village of Creemore, Sunnidale Township and Nottawasaga Township became the Township of Clearview.
    The community wide-event will celebrate families, businesses and the culture of Clearview Township with three central themes: “Made In Clearview”; “Clearviewlicious” and “Free Family Fun”.

    Jack is a British-born Canadian blues guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. Averaging 150 shows per year, Jack has wowed audiences worldwide as an exciting live performer, soulful vocalist and world-class songwriter.
    Jack will be performing with his band at the Historic Gayety Theatre in Collingwood on Friday, April 12th as part of his “Checkmate Tour”.

    Dan is the first Canadian in 12-years to have won the 2018 Sinatra Idol contest and James is the ultimate Dean Martin Tribute artist. For the past seven years, Dan and James have created the utmost Frank and Dean Tribute show with their moves, looks and singing.
    Both Dan and James are veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces as well as current CAV Members.
