In this episode, we talk to Paul Grossart (CPDT-KA) about service dogs for families with children. We keep it real, while acknowledging the additional challenges that parents with children and dogs face.

    We discuss:

    • what makes a good service dog
    • owner trained service dogs
    • can your pet dog become a service dog
    • service dogs for kids

    5. Staying Sane while Parenting an Anxious Dog and Toddler

    5. Staying Sane while Parenting an Anxious Dog and Toddler

Mom, Jessie Leigh, discusses her strategies for parenting an anxious dog and toddler at the same time. Much of what she learned came from the book,  Don't Bite the Baby (and Please Don't Chase the Dog) by Lisa J. Edwards. Along her parenting journey, Jessie had to improvise, go with the flow...and even to sacrifice her living space to make room for a pen (for whom? Listen and find out...) At first, she felt alone and inadequate, as many new moms with challenging dogs feel. Fortunately, she now understands that parents often struggle in silence, but help IS available - and parents don't have to improvise alone.

    We discuss:

    • postpartum anxiety
    • anxious dogs
    • dog and toddler safety
    • equipment for a safe home with dog and baby
    • support for parents with kids and dogs
    • mental health
