How I Tip and Where I Drink

How I Tip and Where I Drink

Hey there! Check out episode 13 of the Joseph South Show. I discuss my approach to selecting lounges for a night out and the criteria I use to make my choices. I can't stress enough, the importance of social proof and how it influences our decisions. For me, the vibe of a place is the most critical factor when it comes to selecting a venue.

I also share some tips on how to get heavy pours, doubles for the price of singles, and even free drinks, by tipping well. Who doesn't love a good deal?

I discuss  upcoming topics for the show, including how leadership is related to mental health, and a discussion on Napoleon Hill's book, "Think and Grow Rich." Stay tuned for way more exciting content!

The Joseph W. South Show – Volume 1 is packed with even more practical insights and personal stories than what you saw in my last book. Building on the success of Practical Female Psychology for the Practical Man, this book provides you with a deeper understanding of female psychology and how to apply it to everyday interactions with women.

Whether you're a new reader or a returning fan you'll find plenty of useful advice in these pages. I bring decades of experience to the table, having made every mistake possible when it comes to the opposite sex. From divorce and child custody battles to wild sex and successful relationships I've seen and done it all!

It's not just men who stand to benefit. Female readers of the original book have raved about how PFP helped them understand their own thinking and the differences between masculine and feminine thought processes.

In a world where dating, sex, and relationships are complex and difficult to manage, I offer practical advice on how to overcome shyness, interact comfortably with the opposite sex, and find sexual partners. I share experiences of meeting and having sex with a lot of women, despite not being super rich, tall, or with model-good looks.

    Episode 6: Performance Anxiety

    Episode 6: Performance Anxiety

Performance anxiety and the yips are not the same thing, and feeling unable to perform or compete before a big event is far more common than actually being unable to perform or compete due to the yips. But these ailments share more than a few similarities, and on this episode of Losing Control, host Justin Su’a talks with a concert pianist who has not only performed on many of the world’s great stages, but who has battled–and learned to manage–performance anxiety. And for a perspective on battling severe, debilitating anxiety on the court, you’ll hear from none other than Mardy Fish, the former American number one and former world number seven, who faced severe anxiety at the height of his professional tennis career.

    • Mardy Fish, a retired tennis pro and current U.S. Davis Cup Captain
    • Gwendolyn Mok, a concert pianist, recording artist, and professor of music who teaches at San Jose State University

Episode 105: Fire Walk with Tamler Sommers

Episode 105: Fire Walk with Tamler Sommers
The Twin Peaks mythos has been with Weird Studies from the very beginning, and it is only fitting that it should have a return. In this episode, Phil and JF are joined by Tamler Sommers, co-host of the podcast Very Bad Wizards (https://www.verybadwizards.com/) to discuss Fire Walk with Me, the prequel film to the original Twin Peaks series. Paradoxically, David Lynch’s work both necessitates and resists interpretation, and the pull of detailed interpretation is unusually strong in this episode. The three discuss how Fire Walk with Me, and the series as a whole, depicts two separate worlds that sometimes begin to intermingle, disrupting the perceived stability of time and space. Often this happens in moments of extreme fear or love. Through their love for Laura Palmer and for the film under consideration, JF, Phil, and Tamler enact their own interpretation, entering a rift where the world of Twin Peaks and the “real” world seem to merge, demonstrating how Twin Peaks just won’t leave this world alone, and can become a way for disenchanted moderns once again to live inside of myth. Everyone Can Feel At Home in Trinidad: Doubles, Bake and Shark and Carnival with Duane Swift

Everyone Can Feel At Home in Trinidad: Doubles, Bake and Shark and Carnival with Duane Swift

This week Duane Swift joins the show to share his home island of Trinidad. Part of the nation of Trinidad and Tobago, this Island has joined a lot of economic prosperity throughout the years, and its resident represent all walks of life. Indian, Caribbean, African, Middle Eastern, European, you  name it, Trinidad has got it. We begin with a brief history and background of the island - once known as Irie by the natives - and it's subsequent discovery by Christopher Columbus, the influx of African people through the slave trade, then a wave of Indian immigrants from a British-rule run indentured servant program, and a more recent wave of immigrants from Syria. I learn about doubles, the Trinidadian national dish, a street food of two pieces of bara served with chick peas. Duane teaches me what it means to go "liming" in Trinidad, and how these days one of the preferred drunk foods of the country is a gyro - but with some extra scotch bonnet peppers thrown in there for a Trinidadian twist. Duane waxes about Carnival, the bands you play in, the costumes you wear, and the unification the Island feels for this holiday. Finally we talk about everyone's favorite subject, alcohol!

Rajeev Ram Interview: 2020 Australian Open Men's Doubles Champion

Rajeev Ram Interview: 2020 Australian Open Men's Doubles Champion

In this episode, I talk with ATP doubles player Rajeev Ram. He is number 15 in the world in doubles right now, and last year reached a career-high of number 5.

When I catch up with him he is in his hotel room in Australia on a 14-day quarantine. He is one of the players who is not allowed to leave his hotel room at all for fourteen days.

We talk about how he manages to train while he is stuck in his hotel room 24/7, and then dive into his career and doubles strategy.

We discuss World Team Tennis, how he got started playing tennis, his time in college playing at Illinois, his pro career, July 10, 2009 when he played four ATP matches in one day, before diving into doubles strategy. I ask him:

    • How he game plans before a match.
    • How he and Joe Salisbury make in-match adjustments.
    • What his biggest strength & weakness is on the doubles court.
    • When he likes to use signals vs talking (while serving).
    • and a lot more…

Note: Rajeev’s hotel wifi was not great, so you will hear some audio issues. We did our best to edit as much as possible.

Talking Strategy with World #11 Nicole Melichar

Talking Strategy with World #11 Nicole Melichar

I interviewed Nicole Melichar last summer, so this is her second appearance on the show.

In this episode, I catch Nicole from Melbourne, a few weeks before the Australian Open. She is in quarantine and is only allowed to leave her room for five hours per day.

Last summer when I spoke to her she was number 19 in the world, now she is all the way up to number 11. We talk about how quarantine is going in Melbourne and what her plans are for 2021 - she is playing with a new partner this year.

We also talk about her fall season where she did really well. She made the final of the US Open and Cincinnati Open, won in Strasbourg, and made the semis of the French Open.

After that, we dive deep into doubles strategy.
