An increasingly common practice in India is the so-called dowry â the valuables a womanâs family must provide to her husband when they marry. But dowries are also behind a rising tide of violence against wives whose parents struggle to meet constant demands for money.
Before Paulina was born, her future seemed predestined: She’d marry her relative and close family friend, Bobby. They were a match written in the stars. And their wedding only augured more good things to come. Or so she thought.

Dive deeper: There is no monolithic “Romani American experience,” not even in California — there are a multitude of them. Author Oksana Marafioti shares her recollections of how arriving in Los Angeles as a teenager led her to celebrate her Romani roots.
On July 17 Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finally got married, two decades after they first became engaged, but their incredible reunion has been somewhat overshadowed by JLo's decision to change her name to Mrs Jennifer Lynne Affleck.
Despite the happy occasion, the internet exploded with people complaining about her 'giving in to the patriarchy' and expressing disappointment at the very personal decision of a woman that most of us will never meet, but why do we care?
The Quicky speaks to an entertainment expert and a relationships guru to find out why the decision whether or not to change our name after marriage is still so contentious for women in 2022, and whether doing it really does mean you're not a feminist.

It's our 50th episode! And we are looking at a thoroughly unconstitutional affair: electoral bonds! This episode of The Longest Constitution looks into how in the name of transparency, the BJP government introduced unaccountable crores into Indian elections. We also look at other sinister matters, such as 69A of the IT Act which allows the government to block public access to an intermediary. Finally, we continue with our slow and steady study of the PIL and how it led to the Supreme Court turning into an order-passing institution, rather than following its constitutional mandate of interpreting the Constitution.
On electoral bonds:
On 69A, IT Act, 2000
On PIL and environmental litigation
