Nestor Peña was last seen leaving his construction job in the Colombian city of Tuluá to meet some friends for lunch. He left behind all of his personal belongings, and no one has seen him since. Since 2015, over 1,500 Venezuelans have vanished just like Nestor did, with only a fraction of the cases being resolved. The lack of access to justice compounds the challenges the families left in anguish face.

Fernando Iglesias is a member of Parliament in Argentina and the Director of the Campaign for a Latin American and Caribbean Criminal Court Against Transnational Organized Crime (COPLA). Pervasive organized crime in the region is a huge drag on social and economic development, has led to sky-high levels of violent crime, as the mafias that fuel drug trafficking, money laundering and bribery operate in many countries with impunity in a context of weak states and scant respect for the rule of law. COPLA could be an instrument to enforce the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, also called the Palermo Convention. Iglesias discusses why COPLA is needed, the challenges of establishing a court in a region where free and powerful mafias have often captured the politicians and other public institutions. What is at stake in a region that, over the past 2 decades, has had one of the weakest economic growth performances in the world and what role has organized crime played in this outcome?

Countries in Southeast Asia are coming together with the support of the UN to tackle what is being described as “one of the biggest drug-trafficking corridors in the world.”

Traditionally, the highly addictive drugs, opium and heroin were trafficked out of the region, but now more dangerous synthetic drugs are being manufactured in remote jungle laboratories in ever larger quantities.Closer collaboration across borders between law enforcement agencies is helping to slow down the illegal trafficking.

Manuel Antonio Noriega, the cunning and brutal in-all-but-name Dictator of Panama. Ol Noriega rose to power the old fashions way, he fucking spied and had dirt on everyone. This is a prime example of the old adage Knowledge is Power. Now Noriega's story would be thrilling as is, but over 31 years he rose to become the most powerful man in Panama, he was also working for the CIA...and not just as a spy, this guy was a jack of all trades, running guns and supplying funds for rebels in South America. Getting cozy with Pablo Escobar to run cocaine through his country into Central America. As crazy and made up as this guy seems he was also an unstable psycho with a face only a mother could love.

In this episode of the National Crawford Roundtable we discuss multiple issues about illegal immigration.  Was Texas Governor Greg Abbott right to bus illegal immigrants to Democrat-run "Sanctuary Cities"?  Are these Sanctuary City Mayors like those in Washington D.C., NYC and Chicago being hypocrites for complaining?  What about the humanitarian crisis consequences of open-border policies: more dead migrants who die making the trip; the selling of children into the sex and slave trade, more rapes of migrant women from Coyotes and smugglers; drug cartels, Coyotes, and Human Traffrickers getting rich; Fentanyl and other opioids flooding the U.S. and feuling U.S. drug dealers and increasing overdose deaths; more criminals, gangs, drug and gun runners coming into the U.S., and Islamic terrorists more easily able to enter the U.S?  Isn't it gime we more strongly give Trump his due regarding his successfully negotiated "Remain in Mexico" Policy, the wall building efforts, tightened border security measures, etc.?
