Association Hustle - Episode 220: Modernizing Your Association's Dues Model and Value Proposition
Many associations are reevaluating their business models and focusing on optimizing their membership dues structures. Specifically, the associations that have 50% or more of their revenue coming in from membership dues.
The Moery Company has helped dozens of associations re-build their business models starting with the restructuring of membership dues. Here's what we've learned and how you can start the process at your association for better membership and non-dues revenues.
Ep #1: Mary Augsburger - The Ohio State Bar Association Makes Big Changes to Dues Model
Mary interviews Mary Augsburger, CEO and Executive Director of the Ohio State Bar Association about their newly developed dues model. For decades the association had 17 different dues categories. Based on member feedback about the model being confusing and unfair, they decided it was time to simplify and modernize their dues structure. They formed a member task force to review the model and did plenty of market research. After getting member input and crunching the numbers, the association's dues categories were simplified to a 3-tier subscription model to allow members a choice of plans that better met their needs. A great example of innovation in action!

Gray Clouds and Silver Linings
This week is a total bummer, as Brett and Nazim cover two cases, Microsoft Corp. v. U.S. (dealing with the U.S. jurisdiction to seize digital assets overseas) and Janus v. AFSCME, Council 31 (aka the Unions)(dealing paying union dues when you're not the union), that depending on how you feel about privacy or organized labor could be a real downer. Brett and Nazim look on the bright side of both cases, by either arguing why the good side should win or why it won't be a bad thing if they lose. (Law at 5:20).
#292 Nancy Burke of the Direct Selling Association on Membership and Dues
Nancy Burke sits down with Blake and Ernesto to talk about a segment of the large economy that occasionally goes unnoticed and is often left out of larger discussions about employment. Direct sales are a way for companies to hire people as contractors and for 20 million Americans to earn money through sales but without being stuck in a traditional retail environment. Nancy Burke is the Vice President of Membership for the Direct Selling Association and the DSA represents the ~150 companies that employ the sales force. A couple you may have heard of -- or used -- are Avon and Mary Kay.
