Episode 33 | Dune(1984) and Dune(2021) with Special Guest Josh Wilber

Episode 33 | Dune(1984) and Dune(2021) with Special Guest Josh Wilber
Alex and Davis welcome friend of the show Josh Wilber into the studio to discuss the recent space epic from Denis Villeneuve, Dune, as well as the original 1984 film from David Lynch and how the book by Frank Herbert compares to both. With two movies to discuss, the news segment to open the show is very light with brief discussions about the trailers for Lightyear and the Book of Boba Fett as well as the potential John Wick spinoff starring Ana De Armas. After wrapping up the weekly news the trio dives right into Dune(1984) and the discussion takes a mostly negative turn as they find little that they enjoy from the film, including a few absurd style choices that were not present in the original novel and horrible exposition to open the film. The review of Dune(2021) is more positive, focusing on the film's A-list cast, stunning visual effects and well executed exposition. They wrap up the show with a discussion of potential casting choices for Dune Part 2, set to release in 2023.

    Prophetic Movie Reviews: DUNE

    Prophetic Movie Reviews: DUNE
Welcome to the FIRST prophetic movie review! It might sound crazy to some, but we believe that if God can speak through the rocks (Luke 19:40) He DEFINITELY can speak through films. It doesn't matter who makes them either! God can place vision in anyone, whether they believe in Him or not (see: Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, etc...) Paul used to work as a professional film critic, and for years he would find God speaking timely messages in modern films. Now he's here to share those insights with the world through YouTube. This week the movie DUNE is blowing up at the box office and everyone is talking about it. This movie has a powerful prophetic message for all of us TODAY. Check to see what it's all about!

Ep045 || Dune (with Joash Youngberg)

Episode Forty-Five. In this episode, the guys are joined by a long-time friend and first-time visitor to The Weekly Reel Podcast, Joash Youngberg. Did Dune (2021) receive unanimous good reviews by all three guys?

This week on The Double Feature, the fellas try to figure out which movie franchise Dune reminds them of the most and why. Also, the guys debate whether or not Dune lived up to the hype and expectations given the all-star cast and well-known director (Denis Villeneuve). After the break, Joash gives out his inaugural Weekly Reel Awards along with the Weekly Reel guys. They also play Guess the Rotten Tomatoes with Joash. Will Joash beat either Ken or Jeremy or both?

What is your favorite Denis Villeneuve-directed film? Send us your comments/feedback on Twitter (@weeklyreel) and email to weeklyreelpod@gmail.com. ***SPOILER WARNING! WE DISCUSS DUNE AND MAJOR PLOT REVELATIONS***

We end the spooky season with what is destined to become a Halloween favorite. This week we talk about 2021's 'Dune'. We have been talking about this movie for years and were all extremely excited to see it. The question is not if we liked the movie, but how much. There is no way any of us would dislike the movie, right?

Dune may not ever be the perfect Halloween movie, but it is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. We talk about whether a person can get into the movie without having read the books first. Right off the bat, one of us is very upset about how confusing everything is. This begs the question: there is no doubting how gorgeous the film is; but is it just a case of style over substance.

We also try to figure out the odd line deliveries and naming conventions. Timothee Chalamet has proven he is one of the best young actors today. Why does his science fiction hero speak every other YouTuber? And why do the most important characters have such normal names?

The three of us also talk about the direction outside of the grand sci-fi moments, compare this version to David Lynch's much maligned 1984 attempt (you will be surprised who  has nice things to say about it - well, maybe not), and talk about how there is only one way to watch Dune.

    Dune: Part 1 (2021)

    Dune: Part 1 (2021)

Frank Herbert's sci-fi masterpiece Dune is getting yet another reboot after David Lynch's 1984 cult classic, and the SyFy mini series from 2000. This time around director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) gives it a go  alongside a slew of awesome acting talent. How does this new film compare to the book and previous movie and TV iterations? Was deciding to divide the adaptation of the first book into 2 films a good idea? Do Jason Furie and Adam Roth enjoy eating stale Cadbury Creme eggs? Only one way to find out friends.

Let's Talk about DUNE - Movie Trailers Review

Let's Talk about DUNE - Movie Trailers Review

This week on the Podcast, I'm talking about DUNE - the movie coming out on HBO/Max on October 22nd.  We're going to spend a show each day this week talking about the trailers, 1984 movie, video games, and the books.

Dune is one of my favorite, if not my favorite fandoms. It's awesome, and I've loved it for around 30 years. Today, we're going to dive into the trailers and talk about where we think the movie will go.  There will be some spoilers as I'm very familiar with the old movie and the books, which I'm using for comparison to the newest version coming out this week.

Sorry - but we won't be talking about the mini-series that came out around 2000 which was good and went into a lot of details.  I usually do not cover specific fandoms on the cast, but I'm making a couple of exceptions this season!

I hope you enjoy DUNE in theaters and streaming this Friday! Let me know what you think if you do decide to watch it.  This is not a paid promotion - I just really think Dune, in it's concept and creation is an amazing work and worthy of cosplaying in the future.
