The Secure Podcast - Episode 1

The Secure Podcast - Episode 1

This month is the release of the new edition of my book,Secure: Discovering True Financial Freedom. I couldn’t be more excited with this second printing of my book because if ever there was a time for a clear biblical understanding of how to find security, it’s in these insecure times.

Since the Great Recession hit in 2008, countless families have gone through times when the bottom seems to be falling out. Whether losing a job, struggling through sustained unemployment or simply feeling the financial strains of our times, they wonder… perhaps you wonder… if it will ever get better. If financial security will ever return or be realized.

In this first of five video podcasts, I share why I wrote Secure and how it can help you steer through these challenging times.

Episode 028: J.J. Abrams Signed My Enterprise!

Episode 028: J.J. Abrams Signed My Enterprise!
On this episode, Dave and Barry recount their experiences and play some audio recorded at the recent J.J. Abrams event in New York City where he was promoting his new book “S” along with author Doug Dorst.  The evening started with a panel discussion hosted by Lena Dunham (from HBO’s series “Girls”), they also took questions from the audience and then they signed books.  All this, plus a J.J. centric Desert Island DVD’s and a brand new segment hosted by Tod called the Long Box which is all about comics.

    'Girls' - Season 2 Review

    'Girls' - Season 2 Review
(Spoilers in Podcast) This week Screen Verdict dedicates an entire podcast to HBO's Girls with our Season 2 Review. First off we wonder whether we learn about girls by watching Girls and why you probably shouldn't watch Girls on the train. We split the season by the four main characters and their story arcs. We discuss Jessa, Shoshanna, Marnie and Hannah and share our opinions on all the decisions made by the girls. We also include our opinions on the guys including Adam, Ray, Charlie and whatever Donald Glover's character's name was. Lastly we provide our Screen Verdict rating and correct a previous mistake on the podcast in Housekeeping. Muhf***as I Know: Kenji Fujishima

    Muhf***as I Know: Kenji Fujishima
Today, Kenji Week on Muhf***as I Know comes to a close with this convo I had with film writer Kenji Fujishima. An avid arts and culture junkie, I talk to him about Lena Dunham (which seems to be a constant topic on this podcast), his days growing up in New Jersey, his job at the Wall Street Journal and his new gig as editor-in-chief for In Review Online. We also seem to bond over two things only film nerds can bond over: Werner Herzog and the movie Spaceballs. Don't ask me how we got to that point. Just be glad I got it all for your listening pleasure.

Madge and Dave discuss the podcast love, Diff'rent Strokes, Lance Armstrong, Megan Fox, Julia Stiles, Jodie Foster, American Idol and Howard Stern. Plus, finding heads at the airport, New Feature Midget in a Backpack, I Don't Get Sandra Oh, and we still can't get through Lincoln. Also, people who get sayings wrong, don't use bathroom soap and the infestation of candles. Oh, and Madge channels Miss Piggy. (Week of January 14, 2012)

    Trying Hard to Love 'Girls'

    Trying Hard to Love 'Girls'

We praise Girls, a show we hate, and Kate Erbland helps us understand the genuine love for Lena Dunham's terribly average HBO series.

Plus, Broken City director Allen Hughes talks shooting fast, celebrating 20 years of Menace II Society and why he loves crime dramas, and Geoff explains a truly despicable "management" scam that aspiring screenwriters need to protect themselves against.

    Don't get suckered. Listen now.

Madge and Dave discuss Monica Potter's Patrick Stewart bald cap, Charlie Sheen, Megan Fox, the People's Choice Awards, Golden Globes and Oscars. Also, Incontinence or Blank, The Boring-est and new feature Ben Affleck Got Robbed. Plus, nudity on TV, I Don't Get Whoopi Goldberg, bullshit shirts and crazy people who think you're friends because you drive the same car. Oh, and Dave speaks sushi. (Week of January 7, 2012)

    Muhf***as I Know: Vadim Rizov

    Muhf***as I Know: Vadim Rizov
The first time I tried to interview New York-based film critic Vadim Rizov for the Crizzlecast, it was the night before Hurricane Sandy hit. Like a dumbass, I thought it wouldn't be a big deal and I could talk to him amidst all the madness that was going on. Ten minutes into the interview, his phone crapped out. So much for that. However, I got him on the line a few weeks later, and we managed to pick up right where we left off. I talked to him about what was it like being in the middle of that mess, along with how he got to be a film critic and his rather peculiar family history. We also spend way too much time discussing Lena Dunham and we SO spoil the ending of Leos Carax's Holy Motors. So, remember, you were warned.

Episode 48: I'm sorry Chris Hardwick

Muhf***as I Know: Kayla Marie Williams

Muhf***as I Know: Kayla Marie Williams
For today's Crizzlecast, I rap a taste with Toledo poetess (and upcoming radio host) Kayla Marie Williams, a former high-school classmate and, as she reminded me, one of the first newspaper editors I ever had. We discuss whether or not I was a dick in high school, her quite-fascinating family history, her time at Oberlin College (yes, Lena Dunham's name pops up!) and just how vibrant is the literary arts scene in Toledo. We also talk about what foods we can't eat because we're old. Even though it's another lengthy one, and I sound a bit out of it (this was recorded at the end of a very vexing day for me), I still think it's worth a listen.

'Veep' vs 'Girls' - An HBO Comedy Showdown

'Veep' vs 'Girls' - An HBO Comedy Showdown
In a podcast all about girls Screen Verdict discuss HBO's two new comedy shows for the season, Veep and Girls. Matt and Jonathan discuss Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a girl Vice President in the follow up to Armando Iannucci's 'The Thick of It'. They also discuss the interesting cast in the office and decide who they would keep or fire. Moving on to Girls Matt and Jonathan discuss it as the new Sex and the City. They review each of the characters and play a modified version of one of Screen Verdict's favourite games in Screw, Marry, Kill. Then Matt and Jonathan give each show a rating out of 10 and the combined score provides the HBO showdown winner. Lastly they discuss the excitement of Screen Verdict's one year anniversary and Matt shares some humorous girl issues of his own.
