    Episode 286: Tina Horn

    Episode 286: Tina Horn
It's Valentine's Day, and the pod is serving up a hot 'n spicy episode with educatrix, writer, and former AVN-nominated director, Tina Horn! Regarding her sexuality, Tina says "as soon as I knew that I had a crush on Fox Mulder, I knew I had a crush on Dana Scully." Unfortunately, she was growing up in a small, homophobic town in Northern California, and so the majority of her early sexual partners were restricted to cis men. Tina categorizes those early experiences as "all right," but even as an adolescent, she was already aware of a fundamental truth: "I knew that I really liked sex, and I wanted to do it all the time, and I wanted more variety and, like, different kinds of sex." Tina discusses becoming a sex worker at a time when the Bay Area had a thriving queer and feminist porn scene, and explains why it is so important for her to be out as such, even though her time in the sex industry has "waxed and waned over the years." We also talk about Tina's comic series, "Deprog" (which features a hardboiled leatherdyke detective and a genderqueer femme fatale!), and her upcoming book of fetish cultural criticism, "Why Are People Into That?" based on her long-running podcast of the same name. All this, plus Lauren gives a special Queer Root Shout-Out (TM) to the most sapphic music video of ALL TIME!

Go to tinahorn.net to find out where you can pre-order both "Deprog" and "Why Are People Into That?: A Cultural Investigation of Kink" (and while you're there, sign up for Tina's newsletter as well!). Also follow Tina on Twitter and Instagram at @tinahornsass, and check out her podcast "Why Are People Into That?!" on all the usual platforms!

The Spaces Between with Maz Hedgehog (Season Finale)

The Spaces Between with Maz Hedgehog (Season Finale)

Happy season 5 finale! We finally got to chat with Maz Hedgehog (they/them), a UK-based bisexual writer, poet, and performer working in the spaces between real and unreal, poetry and theatre, self and other. We chatted about Maz’s bisexual journey, how they realized they were agender and what that means for them, why Maz identifies as a “bisexual dyke” (like Shiri Eisner!), and how their gender and sexuality inform their artistic work, like their recent solo show, “Let Me Count the Ways”. We also discussed the challenges of getting queer art published & produced, how to deal with rejection and failure, how fashion is a form of speech that communicates who we are, and the value of collaboration and imperfection. Also fairies!

Thanks for listening to season 5! Rob will be taking an extended hiatus before season 6 to work on his oral history book, “Bisexual Married Men: Stories of Relationships, Acceptance, and Authenticity”, to be published by Routledge. Stay tuned for info and updates as well as some bonus content and surprises. And please take a moment to rate and review this podcast, and tell your friends -- thanks!

NYC Dyke March: 30 years of permit-less protest

NYC Dyke March: 30 years of permit-less protest

Every year on the eve of New York City’s Pride March, the LGBTQ rights movements goes back to its roots. Tens of thousands of self-identifying dykes march down Fifth Avenue demonstrating their first amendment right to protest. For the 30th Anniversary of the Dyke March, we’re talking about the evolution of the march. Founding organizer Valarie Walker takes us back to the first ever NYC march and talks about how much has changed. Organizer Nate Shalev explains this year’s theme, Dykes for Trans Liberation, and why the march continues to be a protest, not a parade.

    Frauenliebe

    Frauenliebe
So viele wirklich gute Filme.

    Music: Then and Now
"Queerbaiting" is a term used to described the use of queer elements or queer characters in a variety of movies, media, or music in order to appeal to the queer community, but without explicitly allowing queerness to thrive. It also reduces it only to the sexual aspect of it; there's no relationship, no falling in love, or actual story. "Dykesploitation" refers to the lack of butch women of gender queer non-binary folks when comes to female queer relationships in the media. Rosheeka discusses the first instance of an extreme depiction of queerness; how mainstream culture views queerness. She asks what are the big events that major news stations and people who have no experience with queer communities that they are getting their impression of queer people from? The first thing that comes to mind is Pride Parades. Cover Art Design by Tania Willems
