How do we slow down in life before reaching the breakdown? In today’s solo episode I discuss my relationship with work and the ‘hustle’ mentality that has drove me to my limits. Whether it’s pure exhaustion, adrenal fatigue, an injury, or more, pushing past our limits with work and life never ends well. This is the breakthrough from my breakdown after falling into the hustle 24/7 lifestyle.

    In this episode I discuss:

    • my relationship with work
    • the breakdown that changed my perspective
    • adrenal fatigue, depression, and anxiety
    • using work to cope
    • the dangers of distractions and ‘hustle’ mentality

Making Wellness Inclusive and Creating Change with Kira West

Making Wellness Inclusive and Creating Change with Kira West

Wellness is a wonderful thing but what about when it becomes exclusive to some? Today’s guest, Kira West, joins me for a discussion on making wellness inclusive to all and creating change in the racial disparity of our society. She dives into what it’s been like to experience the surge in awareness around the Black Lives Matter movement as well as how she identifies true allyship. Kira explains what the discussions on race consisted of as she was growing up and how to continue those today. Her mindset on moving forward means taking accountability for change in both ourselves and the world around us. Kira is a voice to amplify and listen to for anyone willing to do the work and be part of the change for racial equality.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • The surge of support after the recent BLM movement
    • How she identifies true allyship in others
    • Learning about race during childhood
    • The pressure to conform and change aspects of her identity
    • The age prejudice she faced in careers
    • Redefining what wellness means
    • Making wellness inclusive to all
    • Moving forward and creating change in race

3 Lessons the Black Lives Matter Movement Taught Me

3 Lessons the Black Lives Matter Movement Taught Me

With the recent surge of awareness in the BLM movement it seemed only right for me to discuss it. As a white woman in America I have had white privilege on my side throughout life. And beyond that, I’ve failed to properly educate or expose myself to the issue of racism which is why I’m now committed to change. We can all play a part in moving forward and it’s about continuing the work to bring about change. This episode discusses three main lessons that I learned while supporting the week of amplifying black voices on instagram. I discuss white privilege and what it actually consists of; what it means to be ‘uncomfortable’; and why anything is better than nothing.

Let’s Thrive will continue to bring more diversity and voices for change in the coming months. But until then, check out these inspiring women and the work they do.
