Welcome, dear listeners, to a brand new episode of the Mahakatha Meditation Mantras podcast! On this episode, we have a special episode lined up for you as we explore the enchanting world of the Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo Mantra. But before we dive into this transformative chant, take a moment and connect with your body. Place your right palm on your belly, feeling the gentle rhythm of your breath, allowing yourself to be fully present in this moment.

Our bodies hold immense wisdom and power, often overlooked in our quest to master the mind. Just as our eyes instinctively scrunch up in the sunlight and our fingers instinctively retreat from a flame, our body knows how to provide stability and presence to our being. In times of emotional overwhelm, stress, or confusion, turning to our body for strength and clarity can be a profound source of support.

One of the most grounding practices we can engage in is the art of belly breathing. By focusing our attention on the rise and fall of our belly as we breathe in and out, we instantly tap into a sense of calm and stillness. Observing the subtle movements of our body during this practice can help us quiet the storm brewing in our minds, allowing us to find stability amidst chaos.

And what better way to enhance this experience than by combining it with the soothing vibrations of the Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo Mantra? This ancient Buddhist chant holds within it the power to transform and uplift. It can be chanted slowly or at an intensified pace, depending on your preference and intention. As you immerse yourself in the sacred sounds of this mantra and synchronize it with your belly breathing, you will notice how your ability to surrender to the present moment deepens, while any emotional overwhelm lightens.

To fully embrace this journey of self-discovery and inner transformation, we invite you to try the Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo Mantra for yourself. As a special gift to our podcast listeners, we are offering a 30% discount on this mantra. Simply use the code mentioned in the episode description and immerse yourself in the practice of meditation and belly breathing for a few minutes each day.

Join us in the comments section of the podcast episode, and share your experiences and insights as you explore this transformative mantra and the power of belly breathing. We can't wait to hear from you!

So, sit back, close your eyes if possible, and allow the calming energy of the Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo Mantra to envelop you. Tune in to the subtle movements of your belly as you breathe. Let your body be your guide and source of strength. Remember, dear listeners, the key to finding peace and clarity lies within. Stay blessed, and until next time, keep breathing and stay present. Namaste.

Emotional & Sensory Regulation - Strategies to Calm Down

βœ”Β  Why it's important to teach and understand emotions
βœ”Β  Why it's important to teach and understand emotional regulation and sensory regulation
βœ”Β  Understanding our own sensory profile
βœ”Β  Understanding our kids' sensory profiles
    βœ”Β  Explosive meltdowns vs shutdowns
βœ”Β  Tools & strategies to calm down and therefore stay calm and regulated

    Managing Meltdowns:
βœ”Β  Don’t be telling someone that’s not calm to calm down - it won’t end well βœ”Β  Limit talking, questions, demands till another time of day when they are better regulated
βœ”Β  Someone in meltdown mode - silent or explosive - is not capable of reasoning or processing. They are maxed out and you talking will be adding to their overwhelm not helping
βœ”Β  Meltdowns - not the time for discussions about behaviour or for punishing/discipline - save talking through for later (often hours later)
βœ”Β  Learn strategies that work with you & each child (they’ll be different) and have them ready to go when a meltdown happens - meltdowns aren’t the time to test (unless working with a new child)
βœ”Β  Ultimately we want our kids to take control & responsibility for staying regulated - teach them rather than always doing it for them (talk through the process - this can take years)
βœ”Β  Pick your battles - if your kid keeps calm/regulated by having 4 weetbix at 5pm right before dinner… What are you going to do? What’s more important?

    Co Regulation

    Co Regulation

Join me as I talk about day-to-day life with Autism; the sucky bits and the wins, plus tips for enjoying life despite the challenges πŸ‘‡Β

βœ” Β  What is co regulation?

βœ” Take the time to learn your sensory profile

βœ” Β  In understanding your sensory profile, you will build more empathy for what your child is experiencing

βœ” Β  Sensory inputs impact emotional regulation which impact our behaviour

βœ” Β  Behaviour similar to an iceberg - the behaviour is the bit you can see but there so much going on that you may not be able to see

βœ” Β  Invite your child to join your calm, instead of you joining their chaos

βœ” Β  Pick your battles, decide where you are will to compromise, decide what is important to you and your family

Either we spend time meeting children's emotional needs by filling their cup with love or we spend time dealing with the behaviours from their unmet needs... either way we spend time - Pam Lee

    When Therapy Isn't Working

βœ…Β  There are lots of reasons for changing therapists - personality clashes, life changes, life stages, kids growing up, refusal, kids stop responding to therapy/ist

βœ…Β  Tools & strategies change with age & independence & development

βœ…Β  Find your tribe - trusted close friends on same journey - some of the biggest breakthroughs have been from close friends on same journey, tackling the same issue in a different way that I hadn't considered

βœ…Β  More than one way to parent & do therapy - find therapists that work for you and your kids

βœ…Β  Be ok to change therapists, even when you have worked with them for years

βœ…Β  Sometimes a new therapist, new perspective, new ways of tackling things can be the fresh change that's needed

    Looking After Your Mental Health

    Looking After Your Mental Health

I go off on a slight tangent but I do still get to the point on this one πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† Enjoy! ox

βœ… Trust your gut - you know you and your kids best
βœ… No where in the history of 'and they are fine' was anyone really fine
βœ… The work you are putting in now is an investment - you will see results & it won't always look like this
    βœ… Find your tribe
βœ… It's ok to say no
βœ… It's ok to set boundaries and have a break from some people
βœ… It's ok to set your priorities and stick to them
βœ… Priorities and boundaries can change - this is ok too
βœ… Do what you need to do to get through each day
βœ… What I do for my mental health now (exercise, sleep, food etc) is very different to what I was able to do when my kids were young where I had very little time to spare and 0 personal space

What is PDA | PDA vs. ODD?

What is PDA | PDA vs. ODD?

This is purely based on my experience and how it looks in our family and with children I have worked with. Excuse my ignorance as I learn - I have only been aware of this diagnosis for about 6 months :) ox

    βœ… What is PDA?

βœ… What is ODD? (in case youΒ  are more familiar with this diagnosis as I was)

βœ… What's the difference between PDA and ODD?

    βœ… Parenting strategies for PDA

    βœ… PANDA - see PDA Society https://www.pdasociety.org.uk/resources/helpful-approaches-infographic/

I forgot to mention praise in this podcast. We keep praise limited and low key with my PDA kid as praise is effectively a demand with expectations for them to:
    - share your excitement/enthusiasm
    - meet these new expectations next time, now that they've shown they are capable of this new task/achievement
