EP69 | Team Growth: Embracing Struggle & Responsibility!

EP69 | Team Growth: Embracing Struggle & Responsibility!
Do you want to know how to challenge leaders to foster a culture of responsibility and ownership from day one? Drawing parallels from his rodeo days, Zach emphasizes the transformative power of struggle and the vital role it plays in personal and team growth. He critiques the common leadership pitfalls of coddling and rescuing team members from their challenges, instead advocating for a space where individuals can stretch their capabilities and embrace the discomfort that comes with genuine growth. Zach's message is clear: stop shielding your team from struggle, let them stand tall in their responsibilities, and watch them—and yourself—thrive in the arena of leadership.

Talking Intergenerational Leadership with Felicity Furey

Talking Intergenerational Leadership with Felicity Furey

This week on the Lady Leadership I had the pleasure of interviewing Felicity Furey is an award winning Business Leader, Engineer, Entrepreneur and Aspiring Aviator. Felicity is the founder of the Professional Leaders Institute. Felicity was named by AFR Boss as Young Executive of The Year and one the 100 Women of Influence by age 26, and has led multi-million dollar projects across Australia. Felicity now mentors high-performing teams and equips emerging leaders with the skills they need to make an impact and drive meaningful change.

To kick off this chat Felicity and I talked about Felicity’s career in Engineering - why she chose Engineering and how she then evolved her career to move into Leadership. Whilst Felicity was working in Engineering she noticed that there were not many women in Engineering and she started a not for profit to get more girls and more women into Engineering. Through this journey she raised over a million dollars from corporates and then stepped into a leadership role to run this business. This experience exposed Felicity to business through this endeavour and encourage more women into leadership.

Felicity created the Professional Leaders institute to help leaders fast track their careers and move into leadership roles. Felicity helps aspiring or emerging leaders who are moving into leadership. Felicity learnt through creating the non for profit business that she had room to fail and as such they emulate this experience.

We talked about the benefit to business of diverse leadership and also intergenerational leadership plus empowering teams.

Tune in to have a listen!

    Building, Developing, and Empowering Teams

    Building, Developing, and Empowering Teams

Forbes recently released an article referring to the importance of empowering employees with statistics that over a third of organizations that empower their staff tend to experience revenue growth between 10-30%, and 16% of these organizations experienced growth above 30%. Disappointingly though, while 90% of businesses tend to see the importance of empowering their team at all levels, only 7% of those actually make it a reality.

Although Forbes mentions many businesses to look at for such examples of developing, leading, and empowering teams such as the Ritz Carlton, and Disney, it is a church that has caught my attention on their intentionality of making leadership a priority and what appears to be a success story of development, leadership, and empowerment of their team.

Today we have Senior Pastor of Risen Life Church, Kevin Lund, with us to share some insight on his success in leading and empowering teams. Kevin's apparent gift of leadership in putting together a team, developing them as leaders, and then empowering his team is one I am inspired by and I am excited for us to learn more about his tips and suggestions on how to carry over some tools he's used to help our own leadership skills to develop and empower the teams we lead.
