    In Christ [Reconstructing Faith 01]

    In Christ [Reconstructing Faith 01]

Deconstruction is a process by which we question what we know, or at least what we have been taught. When it comes to deconstructing our religious beliefs, our faith, we’re talking about things of ultimate significance. If we are going to reconstruct, to build something that will stand the test of time, it all starts with God. His plan was set in motion from the foundation of the world and stands the fullness of time. And there’s even more to God’s plan. It’s news for all people. It’s grace that forgives sin and adopts us into God’s family. God’s plan is about more than just people. God's plan is to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. There is nothing in all creation not touched by God’s plan. Because God’s after all of it. Everything. And he’s calling us into all of those spaces to participate with him in his work of redemption and renewal. It’s all for his glory, not yours

    Photographing history - Ephesus

    Photographing history - Ephesus

I love history and I talk about what I loved about visiting the ancient Roman port of Ephesus in Turkey in 2013.
I also talk about what I look for when I visit new places, and when I walk around where I live. What's the story of your home town and how can you tell it in photographs?

    Farewell - Audio

    Farewell - Audio
Everyone I’ve met who has weird, creepy, stupid theology – that they need to be more Jewish to be better Christians, or that some Christians are too judgmental because Christians believe the marriage bed should be between a man and a woman, or kept pure before a wedding – I can tell you, 85% of the time, if not more, those people who try to defend themselves will then say, “Look at these teachings. Look at these websites,” or they’ll look to some quote from some teacher outside of Jesus, outside of the Bible! That’s not remaining in Him.

To Whom it May Concern: Lost Love (The Church of Ephesus)

To Whom it May Concern: Lost Love (The Church of Ephesus)
Think about your church and its current state. Think about the good and the bad, and what if Jesus wrote your church a letter. How would your church react, how would your church respond? Here's the thing, Jesus actually did this in the final book of the Bible, Revelation. This new series is focused on the seven letters to the seven churches, As we unpack the letters to the churches of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea I want you think about this question: How can these letter help us understand and challenge the church of today? Welcome to Week One of To Whom it May Concern: Lost Love (The Church of Ephesus).

    Episode 109: Acts Chapter 19

    Episode 109: Acts Chapter 19
In this chapter we see the implications of the Gospel on society in Ephesus with people accepting the Gospel, the worship of Artemis is threatened. The message and power of Jesus not only changes individual lives, but society as a whole. Why is the message not having more impact in our society today?

    Culture Wars - Audio

If some outside force radically upsets your pocketbook, and messes with your religion – you’re bothered. I’ve heard of political platforms that instead of running on hope, runs on this sort of alarmism, “You’re money is being mismanaged, and your religion is being undermined.” This man Demetrius has a goal in mind, “Our beloved goddess, her very reputation is at stake here if we don’t do something.” Now, the connections to a recent politician becomes even more eerie. A riot starts with a slogan although it’s not Make America Great Again, or Save America...

Pentecost Comes to the World - Audio
This is going to be one of those sermons that looks at a topic of some debate within the Christian faith. This passage might propose a lot of questions. The best thing to do when questions arise from a passage of Scripture, is see if we can’t discern what the God-inspired author is trying to communicate, instead of trying our hardest to make him say something we think he’s saying.

BEAUTY: Temples. Keats. The worthy woman. Wingspan (2).

BEAUTY: Temples. Keats. The worthy woman. Wingspan (2).

I’ve been preaching … about the temple of Artemis in ancient Ephesus. All physical beauty fades; God’s temple is not physical.

I’ve been reading … Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats. Is beauty truth? Is truth beauty? It depends on your definitions.

I’ve been hearing … women weighing themselves by the “worthy woman” of Proverbs 31 and finding themselves wanting. It’s OK. At least you’re using the right scale.

I’ve been playing … Wingspan. But not since it last appeared on the podcast. Turns out, beauty alone isn’t enough.
