    The Way of the Lord
This passage introduces us to Aquila and Priscilla. Who were this couple? Why are they important to the Apostle Paul? What possibly prompted the expulsion of the Jews from Rome? What did Aquila and Paul have in common? Why, apparently, did Paul want to take this couple with him and leave them in Ephesus? What is the connection between Aquila and Priscilla and the man Apollos? What is significant about his being from Alexandria? Why is Apollos important in the unfolding history of the church in Corinth? What was the relationship between Paul and Apollos? Day 347: Witness to Unbelievers (2023)
Fr. Mike outlines Paul’s trial before King Agrippa and his efforts to use his conversion story to convert those hearing his case. He also leads us through the first half of Ephesians, emphasizing Paul’s main theme of unity in the spirit. Today’s readings are from Acts 26, Ephesians 1-3, and Proverbs 29:18-21. Acts 20-23 | God's Sovereignty, Paul's Faith and His Trials- All Things Work For Your Good

Acts 20-23 | God's Sovereignty, Paul's Faith and His Trials- All Things Work For Your Good

Could you imagine being so absorbed in your conviction that nothing can shake you from your faith? That’s precisely the kind of unwavering faith we witness in Paul's journey, as told in Acts 20-23. Together, we'll walk the path he tread, discussing episodes like a listener falling asleep during Paul's sermon and the prophetic vision of a man warning him of his impending arrest. All this leads to Paul's dramatic arrest and the attempt to stone him for preaching the truth about Jesus.

Remember how we talked about God's sovereignty in Acts? We'll take that discussion further, looking at how God works through both good and bad times. Here's a sneak peek: the day's reading is Acts 20:4-21:16, where Paul’s address to the church elders at Ephesus unfolds. He testifies to the gospel of grace, warns them about false teachers, and emphasizes the importance of giving. This moment is deeply emotional as he bids farewell to the elders before setting sail for Jerusalem.

Things heat up as we dive into the dramatic events that unfolded when Paul entered the temple. Accusations fly. Tensions rise. Paul is dragged out of the temple, accused by Jews, and arrested. But wait, there's a twist! Paul reveals his Roman citizenship, leading to his release.

In Acts 20, Paul travels through various places, offering teachings and farewells to the elders in Ephesus. He emphasizes the importance of serving the Lord with humility, recounting his trials and sacrifices for the Gospel's sake. During a gathering, a young man named Eutychus falls asleep and falls from a window but is miraculously revived by Paul. The chapter culminates in a heartfelt farewell as Paul prepares to journey to Jerusalem.

Acts 21 sees Paul's arrival in Jerusalem where he faces opposition due to his teachings and is warned about impending troubles. He participates in a purification ritual to dispel misunderstandings among Jewish believers. However, he's eventually arrested after accusations that he defiled the temple. Paul addresses the crowd and recounts his conversion, but this only escalates tensions further.

Acts 22 portrays Paul's defense before the Jewish council, the Sanhedrin, where he strategically reveals his Roman citizenship. This leads to a division among the Pharisees and Sadducees regarding his case, resulting in a riot. Fearing for his safety, the Roman commander intervenes and arrests Paul to protect him from the mob.

In Acts 23, Paul stands trial before the council again and cleverly pits the Pharisees against the Sadducees by proclaiming his belief in the resurrection. Recognizing the discord, the commander removes Paul from the volatile situation, as a conspiracy emerges among the Jews to assassinate him. God intervenes by using Paul's nephew

The man rages and thrashes with the unholy spirit controlling his body, and Jesus calms the man’s soul just as he did the storm. However, a great storm was on the sea that night and the boat began taking on water by the bucketful. Frighted Peter woke Jesus up and as Jesus spoke, the wind and waves became silent. When they finally arrived at the shore of the Gerasenes, a broken, bloody, and demon-possessed man ran to Jesus. Not even a legion of demons could stand against God’s power as Jesus set this man free!

Acts 18:19- 19 | Paul's Ministry in Ephesus: Encountering the Holy Spirit, and Faith that Shakes Economies

Acts 18:19- 19 | Paul's Ministry in Ephesus: Encountering the Holy Spirit, and Faith that Shakes Economies

Imagine journeying through the captivating tales of Paul and his companions, as they navigate their missionary travels in Ephesus. We promise an enlightening exploration of stories that radiate divine power, such as the disciples who haven't received the Holy Spirit yet, and the intriguing tale of the demon-possessed man and the sons of Sceva. Let's unpack these mysteries together, gaining insights into God's redemption plan while understanding our role within it.

As we traverse through Paul's ministry in Ephesus, we'll encounter an array of personalities from the knowledgeable Apollos to the fervent followers of Artemis. Experience the dichotomy of spreading the divine word amidst chaos, the struggles faced by Paul from those profiting from idol worship, and the uproar that occurs when religious fervor becomes rampant. Join us, as we learn the significance of maintaining order amidst religious fervor, and the dangers of mob mentality. This journey is not just about understanding the Bible; it's about realizing how these historical events mirror our current societal dynamics.

In Acts 18:19-19:41, the narrative shifts from Paul's stay in Corinth to his journey to Ephesus. Apollos, a fervent speaker well-versed in the Scriptures, arrives in Ephesus and receives guidance from Priscilla and Aquila regarding the way of God more accurately. Meanwhile, Paul arrives in Ephesus and meets some disciples baptized by John the Baptist, who had not yet received the Holy Spirit. After their baptism in the name of Jesus and the laying on of hands, they received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. Paul spends about two years teaching and performing miracles in Ephesus, which leads to widespread conversion and the growth of the Ephesian church.

During this time, extraordinary miracles happen through Paul; even handkerchiefs and aprons touched by him are carried to the sick, and diseases are healed, and evil spirits are cast out. The impact of Paul's teachings and miracles creates a stir among the Jewish exorcists, who attempt to invoke the name of Jesus without true faith, leading to a humiliating encounter with a possessed man.

The growth of Christianity in Ephesus starts to affect the trade of idol makers, resulting in a riot instigated by a silversmith named Demetrius, concerned about the decline in the worship of Artemis. Amid the uproar, the Ephesian elders are unable to pacify the crowd, emphasizing the depth of idolatry in Ephesus. Eventually, the riot is quelled, and Paul decides to depart for Macedonia.

The chapters highlight the power of God working through Paul, the challenges faced in spreading the Gospel amidst opposition, the manifestation of spiritual gifts, and the growing influence of Christianity in Ephesus des

Pastor Wigfall continues his series on the True Vine and provides an introduction to the book of Ephesians.  Ephesus was bound by many things that bound many people, cities, and towns in the United States.  He also provides a lesson on what Paul's thorn in the flesh was.  Many people think it was a sickness but the Old Testament shows what thorns were.

    Imitate God - Ephesians 5:1-3

    Imitate God - Ephesians 5:1-3

If we acknowledge that we should be good people, then we acknowledge that there is a standard by which we judge what is good.  If a standard of good exists then it must come from an objective source which we call God.  With this truth in mind it only makes sense that we must imitate the source of what is good if we aspire to be good people.  How do we do this? How can we properly imitate God?
